Not high brow but Patricia Cornwell books have gay characters, notably Lucy.

Pride - it's a great film, really enjoyed it!

Off the top of my head thinking of current TV:

Orange is the New Black (tons of lesbian characters, main character bi)
The Good Wife (Kalinda bi, Alicia's brother gay)
Modern Family (gay dads)
