Am I the only one to be annoyed by these? Why the assumption that women are all permanent SAHMs?!!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone refer to colleagues as a support network. That’s what friends and family are for.

I’m a mum who works full time. I was still glad when my Dd went back to school. Saved any hassle with childcare and also got her back into a routine

It's the "Drop your child off on their first day back and go and get a nice coffee" ads I'm not a fan of. There was another one which said: "Off you go to school...Mum needs a rest" etc...

I’ll be dropping mine then meeting 10-15 other mums for coffee.

You can’t ‘rally against’ statistics.

Stats that are based on women’s choices to become a SAHM, so effectively rally against women’s freedom to choose? And this is feminism?

What I’ve notice amongst some “feminists” is that they’re only happy when everyone is as unhappy as they are. It’s really prevalent on MN.

@SlugJam I will always rally against what I believe supports the patriarchy, even when that puts me in the minority. I refuse to be subservient in any way.

You’re entirely missing my point. A statistic is just the reporting of a fact. You can rally against the societal factors behind a statistic, but you can’t rally against a statistic itself 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I have to admit this irritates me as well, and also the ‘Do you work?’ questions on here, with a suggestion that it’s highly probable the poster doesn’t work … I do think a lot of mums are part time though, and I have to include myself in that. But the assumption that it’s actually 1986 and we’re all cleaning the house and waiting to go and get the children again is irritating.

I hate the kids going back to school and miss them terribly. I am certainly not relaxing as I am back to work today too.

I think the ad is just going on common discussions / experiences though. It does perpetuate the gender norm by accident, by responding to it. In every partnership I know including the supposedly egalitarian set ups with both parents working part time etc, it is still always the mum who buys the uniform, sets up the school money apps and does the emotional care of getting kids back to school.

Ultimately the J word is what it always boils down to. I’d probably be quite pissed off I was working and had little to show for it too, I don’t think I’d get mad at other women for not working though.

I love the days at home with just my DD but this summer has destroyed me. I couldn’t do this fifty two weeks a year 😅

My husband and I are very happy with our set up. There is no ‘should’ about it.

I get where youre coming from op, its all rather "thats why Mum's go to Iceland".

However.

If i suddenly noticed washing, cooking, caring, organising etc. ads showing men as being the household hero, the red hot fury Id unleash would be like nothing seen on this earth so far.

So advertisers can’t win.

Except you’ve done all the childcare over the summer holidays whilst your husband has been at work.

I see your point and I don't think it will ever swing totally the other way. But more balance would be a good thing for sure.

Why would women have little to show for working! Dual income households have a better standard of living than most single income households and having your own pension is definitely not little to show.

I didn’t say women had little to show for it. I pointed out the OP does.
