Eurgh!
Am I the only one to be annoyed by these? Why the assumption that women are all permanent SAHMs?!!

@6ate9 Perhaps as women we allow them to get away with it too much? They think - well, my wife will sort that. Example to illustrate: who is named as Contact Parent 1 for your child's school?

The contact parent was so annoying! There was a time when my ex worked from home and I worked outside the home, so I put him down as contact 1. The school would still always contact me first!

@FunPartyIdeas “Perhaps as women we allow them to get away with it too much? They think - well, my wife will sort that.”

How do you make them change? You can’t force them to care the same way women do.

@6ate9 Don't put up with it. My ex-husband expected me to be the Default Parent as I was mum. He refused to share the load.
Not happening!

@6ate9 Exactly the same here. Husband has always been Contact 1 as I can't answer my mobile when at work. They still kept ringing me and wondered why I hadn't taken the call!! Sorted now but I shouldn't have had to explain in the first place!

To be fair to my ex, it was the school that was contacting me, even though I was contact 2!

TBF I work but also feel much more relaxed now school has started and we're back to routine

6ate9 · Yesterday 16:33

@FunPartyIdeas There is an assumption that mothers should be there!

@mnhq Can I ask why one of my comments have been deleted on this thread? Thanks.

Very strange! There was nothing wrong with your comment.

I know that’s why I’m confused? Unless MN moderators just delete any comment that gets reported.

I’ve notice this on a lot of threads lately. What good is starting a thread if you’re going to report the people responding because you don’t like the response? And why are moderators agreeing to it if the comment was within the talk guidelines?

It’s getting near impossible to have a debate of any kind on here.

I’ve noticed this too. Perfectly reasonable comments are being deleted for no good reason!

Me, because I work mainly from home and my husband works in London, 1.5 hours away. Would be silly for it to be him, he can’t get there in an emergency.

That makes perfect sense.

FunPartyIdeas · Yesterday 17:29

@6ate9 And that's the crux of the problem. Fathers should be there in equal measure.
Although I do appreciate it was the school who was calling you, despite you being Contact 2. Same in my case and confirms that mothers are still seen as the Default Parent.

How do you make some of these fathers want to be there in equal measure? Some are simply neither interested nor willing to be there.

FunPartyIdeas · Yesterday 18:05

@6ate9 You can't make them, as much as you would like them to be. Then invariably you end up having to look after them too, because they won't parent and then it's a slippery slope.
The only person that ends up being able to change things for the better is yourself, as hard as that may be at first.

@6ate9 That's what I object to - the gender stereotyping.

But it's true.

FunPartyIdeas · Today 14:09

@GaIadriel Not stereotyping my family will ever accept! And will not be teaching our little girl.
Today I'm painting the bathroom ceiling whilst my husband plays with our 6 yo.
Absolutely she will be learning not to accept a "woman's role."

@warninglivewithoutwarning Do most men work?

Yeah probably? What’s your point?

FunPartyIdeas · Today 15:51

@warninglivewithoutwarning So why should it be any different for women?
