I’m curious. Feminism isn’t and shouldn’t be ‘women should go out to work at the same rate as men’. Women should have the right to choose how they live their lives without judgment.

I couldn’t care less if someone worked 60hrs a week or spent everyday at the spa. As long as a willing partner is supporting that lifestyle and not taxpayers.

If I expect my husband to provide financially for our daughter, then he should (and can) expect me to do the same. I wouldn't be comfortable staying at home permanently when the kids are in school and him being the sole earner. Isn't it a bit lazy too?

Some SAHMs might be lazy, some women working 40 hours in an office might be lazy. I don’t know what your issue is with SAHMs specifically?

I don't subscribe to your definition of feminism. Women are as capable of earning as men. Men are as capable of childcare and housework.

But it's not men forcing women to stay at home. We see all the threads on here asking if husband is BU to be angry about them changing their mind about returning to full time work.

My point is that you can't really cry about SAHP stereotypes when 99% of them are women. It's not a stereotype, it's a fact.

@GaIadriel Some men like their wives staying at home - it gives them control and ofren creates a power imbalance. Not great at all when the marriage breaks down though.

I work full time and I’m as lazy at they come.

Working part time is a priority so I at least get a bit of a break!! Hell we can’t afford holidays or anything fancy but well worth it to get a bit of a break and not be ‘working’ 24/7, that said, the break does involve doing the housework at the same time! I don’t see it as a feminist dream being constantly overwhelmed and never ever getting a moments break from paid work or the kids

Lots in my area too, UC if the DH on an average/low wage, just generally being very frugal and small house etc if necessary. Also choosing to live in a cheaper part of the country

They do what works for them both and as a family unit, the most controlling men I see are those insisting their wives work and usually do most of the housework & childcare too

@Tennings Absolutely not my lived experience. Taking away a woman's work/career means taking away her support network of colleagues and her financial independence.

But who are you to tell people what they should choose as their occupation?

True, one difference now is women feel proud to make the choice. It used to be you'd see articles about some women feeling put down when they said they chose to stay home with their children, but now they are proud to say that feminism is about the freedom to make the best choice.
Or maybe it's because so few can afford it, so now staying home is a flex, wish I could! And the adverts make us think about a perfect world where we could choose to do that.
