Is the trans movement trending out?

Reading another thread prompted this. As a teacher, I have noticed that there are no trans kids this year. I teach in a middle school in europe: 3 years corresponding to years 8 - 10 (!). As the last academic year ended, the last trans kids left the school. No new ones coming through the school.

Has it trended out amongst the kids, leaving the older teenagers / twenty somethings? Then in 20 years' time only the hardcore, like seeing an 60-year old punk?

Definitely trending out in high schools in Scotland. both my kids say it's all the kids on the fringes that identify. Those who struggle fitting in and are a bit attention seeking.

Calling someone a they/ them is becoming derogatory slang round her- of someone is being whiny or precious they say 'dont be such a they/ them'

Note- I do tell them not to do this as it's unkind even tho I totally agree with them!

I don't think it is trending out, or ever will. In my country, 10% of trans people die from murder and 10% die from suicide. Ensuring that their needs are met is a human rights issue. Thankfully, where I am from, the awareness of trans identity is becoming more normalized. It always helps to become more educated on the issue, like taking a LGBT class at one's local college.

So the correlation here is that the more awareness there is, the more murders there are? That's pretty scarey, so maybe we need to start stopping the awareness to try and stop the murders.

Or your stats are made up.

This is happening in my rural area. Loads of lgbtqi+ stuff suddenly happening. I'm hoping it passes soon. The trouble is, it's aimed at primary school children but uses quite vague terminology. 'Come and celebrate our community in all its diversity', etc. without saying we're going to teach kids they might have been born in the wrong body. It's pushed under the 'Pride' banner. I don't really know how to challenge it without sounding like Mary Whitehouse.

Its really worth the time

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 05/02/2025 08:37

I think it's fading a bit. There's still some kids I know who apply a ridiculous amount of labels to themselves (yawn) but for the most part it's more about learning to be themselves rather than adhering to some sort of mythical "tribe". I'm hoping things will go back to they way things were, but I don't think we're quite there yet.

MrsJamin · 05/02/2025 08:53

I think it may be fading amongst teens. I knew of a few of DS's friends that identified another way but it seems not to be a thing so much now. It does seem to be prevalent more with women in their twenties identifying as non binary though? When they could just read up on lesbianism or feminism ffs.

Igmum · 05/02/2025 09:06

I would love to think it's fading out and that those still in it will see the light. Let's have good mental health provision for everyone that doesn't push the vulnerable towards this as a magic bullet and an accurate appraisal of the pervy adult men who have taken advantage of this for very unpleasant reasons.

It's not the school it's a local arts project 🙁

Mittens67 · 05/02/2025 17:47

I am told by a young friend who is still at university that the whole trans/non binary wave is very much receding and only hardcore fanatics remain with few or no new converts.
Also, my local paper has just run a story saying that New Forest Pride is cancelled due to lack of support.
Shame. Those poor blokes will have to prance about in private now with their willies encased in leather and their buttocks hanging out.
I think a lot of people can see things have gone far beyond what actual Pride was ever supposed to be and it is now no longer anything to be proud off

Germanymunch · 05/02/2025 18:02

I've noticed a complete change on here since the Cass Report at least. Used to be every other post was someone calling everyone ignorant, etc. I had to block multiple topics though, so it might be that has worked... So many things on here feel like bots descend and just pick a side to cause drama and you get 100s of posts an hr all being very right wing...

Exactly the same where I am (also Scotland).

It's the most vulnerable ones left, sadly. Not the trendies anymore.

Even more reason to write to them about the equality act. They don’t have any choice if you point it out.

What worries me is that the current teenagers/young adults caught up in this toxic nonsense will soon be in the workplace and in a few years in positions of authority.

Will we see another wave of this batshittery when they are influencing law and policy?

I don’t think these people will be in positions of authority. The majority I’ve come into to contact with are completely unsuited to the workplace and real life in general.

Yeah, 2025! Get those gays back in their box. Fuck me.

Screamingabdabz · 05/02/2025 22:22

I think the Cass report and high profile court cases have helped. Isla Bryson’s cock in pink leggings on the front page of every newspaper was a particular gift to refute the vile ‘a woman is anyone who says they’re a women’ lie.

Companies, education and health providers are being more circumspect about the exposure and avoiding possible legal bother. It also helps when it’s satirised by high profilers such as Ricky Gervais, South Park and JKR etc. It illuminates the sheer ridiculousness of the legal pandering.

It’s still out there though. Misogynists and their handmaids will not giving up easily.

Pride should be a celebration of love. Reducing it to some sort of porn parade is not that but where it has gone.

Disliking this aspect does not mean you don't support gay rights.

I am referring to male sexual fetish on very public display.
The usual lazy and completely false accusation of homophobia.
I have supported gay rights for my entire life.

I’m LGB and there’s a huge difference between gay rights and leather/cub/pup/kink play in public.

Assuming that leather porn culture is the same as being gay is quite offensive, actually.

Ladamesansmerci · 05/02/2025 23:34

I think there will always be people who feel their body is wrong, which can cause immense distress. This is recognised in the DSM and ICD. AGP will always be a thing too.

I think the trend of non-binary etc is dying down.

I sincerely hope however that what does come out of all this, is that young people feel able to wear/present how they like, whilst acknowledging their biological sex. I'd love for everyone to sack off gender stereotypes and dress how they want without thinking it changes their biology.

GreenClock · 05/02/2025 23:44

I really hope the tide is turning. It’s sad to reflect upon the impact this fad has had on youngsters.

According to DD 15 they’re all absolutely sick of it. I think it is trending out in all areas of life. Thank god. Now the people where this is serious for them can be the focus, not young disillusioned attention seekers

And also identifying as a cat,dog ,fox bollocks can be consigned to the bin as well.
People can get back to being people.

BobbyBiscuits · 06/02/2025 00:15

I don't think my local college does a 'trans education class' but if I lived in a country where trans people were routinely murdered, I'd be scared to attend such a class in case I was put in danger by association.

What would the class entail? Showing a map of how to get to the nearest airport to move somewhere safer?

I have a trans man cousin, and I'm not in need of night school to instruct me on how to think about him or others like him. I fully respect trans people the same as I do every other human.

I'm however pleased to hear it seems to be 'trending out'. It shouldn't have been able to trend 'in' to such an extent in the first place.

SwordToFlamethrower · 06/02/2025 00:17

Too late for my family. My daughter is now a "boy" and living with her affirming, abusive dad. It all started when she was 11 and she is 16 this year. Haven't seen my baby girl in 2 whole years.

Transed in secret at school.
