Therapist: "Your wife says you don't buy her flowers."
Husband: "I didn't know she owned a florists."
"My husband's a ghost. He keeps disappearing."
Over to you....

But the balancing point will be different for different people.

Jimmy Carr and his audience think rape jokes are OK. Do you?

Yes, of course. It's an individual thing.

I do not know Jimmy Carr or his jokes. I do think Sarah Silverman's joke about rape is not bad;
"Rape isn't funny, unless you're being raped by Elmer Fudd." If, otoh, a joke is hostile, making fun of victims and legitimizing rape, of course it's disgusting.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 13/11/2024 22:35

Well me and DH are loving these jokes and he is actually agreeing with some 🤣

Yes, the only man in the thread was fine with the jokes, yet there are all these women so offended on men's behalf.

My husband laughed at me for watching cooking programmes when I'm a crap cook.

I retorted that by the same token he did watch porn...

I’ve been following and enjoying this thread and I don’t know why I love this one really made me smile.

As for the rights and wrongs of it it’s the differences between us that makes life interesting being able to see the humour in the differences without upsetting anyone is a real skill.

I took my husband to the hospital yesterday to have 17 stitches out - that'll teach him to buy me a sewing kit for my birthday.
Jo Brand made that joke.

Jo Brand made that joke.

I took my wife to the hospital yesterday to set her broken nose - that'll teach her to buy me socks for my birthday.

🤔

Men are fantastic - as a concept.
Another joke by Jo Brand.

Not a joke per se, but a favourite line of mine in the song Sister Suffragette from Mary Poppins:

Though we adore men individually, we can see that as a group they’re rather stupid.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 14/11/2024 16:22

The way to a man's heart is through his hanky pocket with a bread knife.
Jo Brand again.

Jimmy Carr joke.

"I bought myself rape alarm because I kept forgetting to rape people. Bloody marvellous!"

Garlicpest · 14/11/2024 16:40

God said to Adam, "I’ve got some good news and some bad news.
First the good news. I have given you a brain and a penis.
The bad news… I’ve only given you enough blood to work one of them at a time!"

YourAmplePlumPoster · 14/11/2024 16:40

Husband: Scientists have found that men say about 10,000 words a day, while women say about 20,000.
Wife (shouts from the kitchen) It's because we have to repeat everything twice to you blockheads.
Husband: What?

Behind every successful man is a surprised woman.

Garlicpest · 14/11/2024 17:27

Q. Why is it difficult to find men who are sensitive, caring and good-looking?
A. They already have boyfriends.

  1. Men online: “LOL feminists stop taking everything seriously.”
(Feminists makes joke about men) Men online: “WHAT THE FUCK?” —

The average man is proof enough that women can take a joke.

Swivelhead · 14/11/2024 21:06

He must be quite a talentless "comedian." That's not remotely funny, just entirely about shock value. Sounds like something Andrew Dice Clay would have said. He wasn't funny either.

Speedweed · 14/11/2024 21:22

I think these are funny, and wish there were more...but there only appear to be about 20 jokes lampooning men, all of which have been kicking around since the seventies, which is telling enough!

SensibleSigma · 14/11/2024 21:24

I’m really fussy about humour. Dislike anything cruel.

Generally dislike Jimmy Carr. But that one’s hilarious- and I say that as someone who’s earned the right to an opinion on rape jokes.

I would have said it was never a laughing matter, yet I like that one. Humour is weird. As are humans.

😄

Man: "I don't know why you wear a bra; you've got nothing to put in it."

Woman: "You wear pants don't you?"

Marrying a man is a 3-ring circus; engagement ring, wedding ring, suffering.

Christinapple · 04/11/2024 13:05

Just what this forum needs, a "man joke" thread as if the anti-man vibe wasn't strong enough already.

How would you feel about a thread like this about women? This is a general comment not a response to the quoted post .

SensibleSigma · 14/11/2024 22:00

The men who make jokes about women tend to aim to keep them in their place in some way. They are threatening, controlling.

women’s jokes about men are totally different in effect because of the punching up/down thing. Women laughing about men being self centred don’t in any way threaten or impact men.

Garlicpest · 14/11/2024 22:02

Most jokes 'about men' are really jokes about women, @TheMoonismadeofcheese. The majority of the remainder are about men wanting to shag women or not wanting to be married to women.

See, that's what the punching down comment means: able-bodied white men being the ruling class, they have zillions of jokes lampooning women, brown people and people with disabilities. A lot of those are so breathtakingly cruel, they barely count as jokes unless they can be construed as poking fun at the arrogance of a system that produces such jokes.

With jokes by women about men, by brown people about white people, or by disabled people about the able-bodied, there's a subtext of rebellion. That's what horrifies the complainers on this thread. Interestingly, few men would be offended by these jokes because a confident person can afford to laugh at him/herself.

... and trying to explain humour to the humourless is a notoriously thankless effort! Brighter people than me have been trying since Ancient Greece, always unsuccessfully.

People who have no sense of humour ... have a serious problem.

No, I'm not explaining that one 😉But then again ...

If you lose one of your senses, your other senses get enhanced. This is why people with no sense of humour have a heightened sense of self importance.

True. I'm surprised so many women on this thread don't seem to see this. Mind you, men can make jokes about women that aren't demeaning or intended to keep us in our place. If they do I don't have a problem with that.
