suggested from another thread, is this something we should talk about. At the risk of being accused of being a TAAT it isn't that.

But on another thread a black MNer said that at a conference she had experienced racist comments from a panel, and she was the only one who pointed it out. And had been the only black person in the room.

The reason i brought up White Feminism on that thread was that the poster was instantly dismissed as a potential derailing troll. Which is... well not sure if the person dismissing the poster is white or not, but it was pretty much the very same treatment. Immediately written off as insignificant.

I've seen comments on the FWR board before that White Feminism rears its ugly head a lot, and that black mumsnetters don't feel comfortable on the board.

I find that shocking. But I'm not black or of any other minority. I'm a white 2nd waver - and i hope that i don't make racist comments or dismiss black women's experiences. I do hope that if i did, they would point that out to me. (and I'd be sorry they have to do that work)

So - should we talk about this? I do think it causes rifts where we should have bridges.

They do not see themselves, full stop.

They have no concept of any POV other than their own.

By 'women like this', do you mean women who reject identity politics?

How utterly ironic from someone whose posts ( on the thread in question) were minimal, and who seemed not to have read, engaged with, or made any attempt to understand the point of view of other posters. And who made several fallacious comments based on illogicality and clear lack of knowledge.

Such a massive chip on your shoulder. You've no idea who the posters are, or what their social/cultural/class background is. Just raw prejudice.

Putting random bits of information together and claiming that this what others have said is not a substitute for engagement with the content of an argument.
People gave you so much time and energy; is this really the best you can come up with. It is pure spite and hostility, and an additional massive dollop of bigotry ( based on what you perceive people's social class to be, and their age, and a whole host of other supposed identity markers - but then that's identity politics for you).

Also not planning on engaging with nonsense taunts, invented gotchas, demands for proof and on and on and round and round.

People who continue to post in threads like that, and who choose to not see, not challenge, and to actively deny and defend racist comments are free to do that.

But others are equally free to notice, draw attention to, and comment on that behaviour.

Nobody is asking you to stfu about racism @Titerama just maybe do us the common human decency of talking to us instead of retreating to another thread and talking about us behind our backs.

You have had a lot to say here about posters on the NT thread but you have not posted once on that very long thread.

This is merely a suggestion, please continue to do whatever you want, all the time. People will draw their own conclusions.

It's a valid discussion on white feminism, and if there's some perfect example elsewhere, you can 't discuss it, or challenge it?

The NT thread is a toxic cesspit. The fact that it is so long is nothing to be proud of, unless of course your aim is to demonstrate how true some of the negative stereotypes are about people in this country.

It really has come to something when the fearless daughters of the witches they couldn't burn are to be found so ardently defending the rights of a mushroom to remain genderless from the boogey men, more commonly known as the 'woke mob'.

I'm fine, you're right @NewNameNigel. Twas in reference to yet another thread in similar vein to the NT one. But you're absolutely right, I successfully manage not to be drawn IRL about these things with them and should do so online to maintain some semblance of a better experience on here.

It's this sort of stuff that puts young women off calling themselves feminists.

In all seriousness, you may be right. Last study I read found that 93% of UK young women don't identify as feminists despite the vast majority believing in 'equality'. And it was conducted by a feminist charity so unlikely to have been trying to make feminism look bad.

Although I also wonder if a lot of young women associate femnism with 'anti trans' views.

I was in Germany last week for a 21st birthday party and most of the young women there were very pro trans. Not at all interested in the conversation about the erosion of women's rights. They were however a fairly privileged bunch (doctors, pharmacists, all graduates etc) so maybe that influenced their views.

Jess Phillips is pretty vile tbf. I remember her sniggering in parliament while somebody was putting forward proposals for a day to discuss male suicide - the single biggest cause of death of men under 50. Any man who did similar would've been outright cancelled.

I thought she was sniggering at the idea of a men's day, not about male suicide. Her gut reaction was the men don't have problems that need to be discussed in the same way women do.
