White Feminism

suggested from another thread, is this something we should talk about. At the risk of being accused of being a TAAT it isn't that.

But on another thread a black MNer said that at a conference she had experienced racist comments from a panel, and she was the only one who pointed it out. And had been the only black person in the room.

The reason i brought up White Feminism on that thread was that the poster was instantly dismissed as a potential derailing troll. Which is... well not sure if the person dismissing the poster is white or not, but it was pretty much the very same treatment. Immediately written off as insignificant.

I've seen comments on the FWR board before that White Feminism rears its ugly head a lot, and that black mumsnetters don't feel comfortable on the board.

I find that shocking. But I'm not black or of any other minority. I'm a white 2nd waver - and i hope that i don't make racist comments or dismiss black women's experiences. I do hope that if i did, they would point that out to me. (and I'd be sorry they have to do that work)

So - should we talk about this? I do think it causes rifts where we should have bridges.

I am a fucking menace, apparently.
White = PSYCHOPATH.
White women are VIOLENT/AGRESSIVE as a standard.
My so white grandma who almost perished
in Buchenwald Concentration Camp should be
made aware of this...

ReginaRegina · 28/08/2023 00:26

Well, I'm not really sure what to make of that story but I'm not convinced that there's an epidemic of people being arrested for being white. Is it possible you managed to confuse the police too and they misunderstood the story?

Parabellum · 28/08/2023 00:28

Ok.
By your standard (not mine) I happened to
have a lighter (White) skin.
I have not chosen to be born that way.
At the same time, you're saying to me it
(skin colour) does and it doesn't matter:
depending on where you were born.
If it does not - we're ALL Black - if it does
then some of us can be White.

ReginaRegina · 28/08/2023 00:33

I'm afraid you've lost me.

Parabellum · 28/08/2023 01:20

I simply explained what happened.
A person said - NO, it can't have happened, YOU'RE lying.
Not only that , as I am white -
I must be lying!
THAT'S WHIOTE PSYCHOPATHY.

I am certain you'll agree with Nnaz Shah and her da'wah call to muhhammad: (to their all constituents)
Allahu akbar.
The prophet Muhammad jest kurwa cudowny!
Islam is absolutely the religion of peace
and love.
Until, there are some difficulties, you see.

Parabellum · 28/08/2023 01:54

Apparently. the ONLY period of slavery that matters is
the trans- Atlantic slavery.
The only imperial era - the British one.
Now, everybody is either historically illiterate
or willfully ignorant.
Let's try the Ottoman Empire and LONG before that
an Arab-Muslim Conquest of Africa.
The Muslim conquest started in 750 and lasted for
1100 years. At least.
The most prevalent of so-called Islamic "conversion" was SLAVERY.

I have read a number of racist comments on here over the years, the ignorance to other cultures is astounding at times. I can remember the threads about Afganistan and the belief that we shared a similar fight to the women there as we are dealing with some tans woman demanding to use our spaces. What planet are some posters on why do they always need to feel they are victims too

and of course there is the Karen debate black and brown woman state why they use this term and the are called stupid, it’s demanded of them they do not use it as it’s sexist, how do they know said women is being racist if not used racist language but no concern as to why they have used this term

all women face sexism but being white and especially middle/upper class you are so extremely privileged let’s ffs stop the pretence that isn’t the case. Life is easier Life has less obstacles and that just isn’t fair. I’m mixed heritage I don’t face what my cousins have to I don’t have to explain myself or deal with fake kindness or racism obvious or underhand

feminism should be to support all women not project our ideals and decide to filter out what doesn’t suit our narrative we are far from that unfortunately

And the entitlement is getting worse.

ReginaRegina · 28/08/2023 14:35

I know as some posters get mightily indignant about any mention of white feminism but I was not expecting SWAT teams to make an appearance. 😂

OneMorePlant · 29/08/2023 00:58

Before I will be "accused" of it, no I am not white.

Now that I got that out of the way. "White feminism" comes from US critical race theory. It's racist horseshit and promotes victim mentality to people who are not white. I see it as propaganda to keep us all down and divided.

What it comes down to is it's another patriarchal hammer to divide and put down women. And a lot of younger people are eating it like cookies just like they are eating critical queer theory, more US made shite based on victim mentality.

There is one thing to be said about white women and that is when they organise and get together they get shit done often due to accumulated resources and networking and they do it to the benefit of everyone not just themselves. It's why men fear them and mock them the most and memes and slurs like "Karen", overly attached crazy girlfriend and scumbag stacy take off like a rocket and linger on the internet longer than most.

Are some white women a tad ignorant about other cultures? Sure. But it's the other way around as well and I really can not see this as racism no matter how hard some of you insist upon it. We all have our limited experiences that shape our lives and opinions.

If there is an issue work to fix it. Don't blame a demographic of women who are not only not at fault but who are the reason we all can vote, divorce, get bank accounts, inherit, get jobs and so on. They achieved this often at great costs.

I've seen "white feminism" now described as a tool for white supremacy and white women called fascists or white supremacists for just standing up for women and having basic feminist opinions.

I see people talk about "inclusivity" and "intersectionality" and the ones I met in the real world who talk like this are most racist bigoted assholes I've ever met. The moment I don't agree with them on something I am a "pet n***" or "to stupid to understand how I am really oppressed" because I must not be educated because I am a certain colour.

It's getting utterly ridiculous. I can not take anyone seriously who talks about "white feminism" unironically. You're racist. You're racist and a moron and you are putting more time into working against all women than anything else. Why is beyond me.

That one statement tell us all we need to know about you.

You may want to check your historical facts on that.

Its doesn't matter what colour you are when you spout that White saviour nonsense.

Hoods, heels and bridges. Trip Trap.

Well, you're definitely entitled to your own opinion but this doesn't seem to be the consensus on Black Mumsnetters.

ReginaRegina · 29/08/2023 11:07

Tbf, I do agree on the face to the bottom in terms of victimhood. It is a bit tiresome at times. But there are defo topics I see as being more white feminist than others. One of them is the whole obsession with male CEOs.

I mean, it's a valid point but the number of people who make it to CEO is a vanishingly tiny minority let's be honest. (I'm not including people who appoint themselves CEO of a dog walking business etc 😂).

ReginaRegina · 29/08/2023 11:08

'Race to the bottom' ffs

redrighthand83 · 29/08/2023 12:18

In todays episode of 'White is Right'. Discussing/challenging racism is victimhood whereas the same for misogyny is legitimate...

We see things differently on BMN because we have a differentiated experience as women and as human beings in general. Our ethnicity and sex cannot be separated.

Have you checked or are you just assuming that everyone who does not agree with you is white.

I got called a slur by intersectional feminists and that tells you all you need to know about me?

You seem to be a real Gladys West 🙄

The irony is not lost on anyone, with half a brain, reading your comment that you are continuing that little tradition, only with different words.

Loulou599 · 29/08/2023 18:45

"you are putting more time into working against all women than anything else. Why is beyond me"

It's because it's easier with zero consequences.

I'm guilty of a different variation on this myself.

It's easier for me to spout off about sexism and women's rights to my gentle brother, who was raised in an all female household and now actively works within his company to foster better working conditions and opportunities for women, than it is to tackle a bunch of men down the pub talking about fannies.

And I have felt guilty for haranguing my brother who is absolutely not guilty in any way, purely to let off steam and direct my anger at a safe target.

It's easier for a woman, any woman, to focus on any other woman, than it is the nub of the issue.

It reminds me of a friend of mine who is vehemently anti Tory and goes on protests and is full of anger. She's right to be, but meanwhile, she has to travel 4 tube stops to buy alcohol so her community doesn't find out and it doesn't get back to her dad.

It's easier to rage against an abstract benevolent opponent than it is a front line issue with direct consequences on you

In what what am I continuing that tradition? Calling you out for centring Whiteness? Why wouldn't I? You stated that you' are not white'. Does that mean you are not White but White passing? Lighter skinned Black? What does it mean? How can we assess your credential? Why would I or any Black or Brown woman not find it offensive to be told everything I/we have is because of of the great sacrifices of White women? The only reference/allusion you make to Black and Brown women frames them as racist (N word example) and your Gladys West comment also reads as an insult.

Socrateswasrightaboutvoting · 29/08/2023 19:17

If only all we had to worry about was men down the pub talking about fannies.

PencilsInSpace · 29/08/2023 19:46

What's the deal with Gladys West? I looked her up on Wiki, she sounds inspirational.
