How do men keep getting away with this?

Fucking hell. I don't think 9 years is right. Were there psychiatric reports etc.

Started at FOURTEEN. Going to prison aged 21. 4 victims gave evidence. Likely there are more out there.

His actions were... Extreme. Prolonged abuse, not opportunity taken but knew what he wanted. Confidant. At that age. Attacks were. Torturous. Really. And maniacal laughing? There's nothing in that piece to hint at any empathy, doubt, pause etc.

He'll be out at what. 25ish?

See this here. Most reading that, men and women. I'm sure would conclude. Serious danger. Extreme. Something really not right with him. Not likely to change... And Def not without major psychiatric help.

And I think that and would say. And not OTT.

Not prison. Secure MH. For as long as needs be. No release until expert panel are agreed 99% sure he is no risk to public. If that never happens. Then he doesn't come out.

This man is really obviously very very dangerous.

Plays nice... 4.5 years.

This right here... Is a problem with our system.

@NiceGerbil

' It doesn't do a lot for me but you might be surprised how many of your female friends are quite insistent on being tied up or choked.'

That implies it's not niche, surely.

It implies it's pretty common.

I messaged 45 Facebook friends to ask and not one thought being strangled or choked would turn her on or make sex better. Yet some man thinks its common. Some man appears to watch too much porn created for men with what some men want not what the woman wants.

Great excuse for murder though. Who would buy that excuse when the deceased is badly beaten and too drunk to consent. Disgusting

logsonlogsoff · 27/10/2021 19:46

The law needs to be changed NOW so that this can’t be used as any kind of defence.

logsonlogsoff · 27/10/2021 19:48

Reminds me of the ‘gay panic’ defence where homophobic murders were committed and the murders said they had ‘panicked’ because they were hit on.
It was clearly bullshit yet used as an defence for years.

@NewlyGranny

"Not prolonged or forceful" strangulation? Good God, she died of it!
I can’t get over that quote.
SirVixofVixHall · 27/10/2021 20:03

@MooChops89

Why is it that in the Joanna Yeates case the jury weren't given the info about his fetish for strangulation porn, yet when women report being raped their previous sexual history is dragged through the court as "evidence" that she must have "wanted it" to discredit her as a victim?
Yes, I totally agree, I was thinking the same while reading the thread.
BrandineDelRoy · 27/10/2021 20:29

I'm not aware of any woman dying from auto asphyxiation (much less a celebrity). I think that might weigh in favor of this being a male-centered fantasy.

NewlyGranny · 27/10/2021 20:47

The auto bit means they did it alone while masturbating. How are we weighing that against women being strangled to death by men? Where are the women who strangle men to death? Nobody can really protect a man from unsafe solitary sex games, but nor can women be held responsible!

And pray, what is the name for that female fetish involving trigger bottles being inserted in vaginas and withdrawn causing laceration and haemorrhage? Would we be surprised how many women beg for that, too? 🤬

offyougotwantychops · 27/10/2021 20:57

Euthanasia is a crime. And yet it's okay to strangle a woman because 'she consented' no she bloody didn't consent to die.
But our judicial system is run by misogynistic men, who don't place a value on a woman's life. It's absolutely sickening.
To consent to something you have to be aware of all the facts. If given all the facts and the woman is okay with being killed that must then fall under euthanasia...
But of course she would never consent.

LessthanJurassicPark · 29/10/2021 07:59

The government ban many things for the sake of people’s safety.

If it’s proven that one can easily kill someone through strangulation without even realising the harm one is doing, why not ban it as a practice?

Therefore any person performing it is automatically committing a crime.

Oblomov21 · 29/10/2021 08:33

These cases are horrendous. I just timed 20 seconds, I took 5 breaths.

I was arguing that if this were something women consented to with partners (or even asked for), I would think you'd expect to find cases of auto asphyxiation among women.

Another article on this, with more detail. Also quotes from Harriet Wistrich and Fiona McKenzie from We Can’t Consent To This.

HereticFanjo · 06/11/2021 11:36

We Can't Consent to this is a campaign I could definitely get behind.

I don't understand why pornography and its dehumanising effect is not being studied and warned about more widely. It effects everyone involved - the 'actors', the 'viewers' and everyone the viewers then have sex with. Violent pornography multiply the effects tenfold.

Damn.

Court declines to increase sentence of man who choked woman to death during sex

I will never understand how any mitigating circumstances are accepted in these cases, where the man does not call an ambulance.

It is never an accident when they cover their own arse before seeking help for the victim.

FannyCann · 12/11/2021 19:20

Just seen this on twitter. Shame on the judges. For shame.
