Tbh cod, as soon as i put the phone down i wished i hadn't. I hope she wasn't just telling me he was home so she could do something silly. She wouldn't with her kids there alone though, would she?

i don't think her DH tends to work that late (he's some sort of landscape gardener). IIRC he tends to be home around sixish.

IMO, if you spent hours offering advice only on the assumption it would be taken, you were wasting your time from the start. You have to let people do what they want and still be there to support them, or not ever be there at all.

If you only offer advice to get it followed then in a word, yes. But not if you offer advice to try and help and happily leave it up to that person whether to take it or not.
