I’m feeling ok and trying to enjoy my week off . I started back on setraline last week but I am fortunate to not have many side effects . Hoping any I do have will calm down by the time I go back to work next week .

snowfoxglove · 05/08/2024 22:53

How is everyone feeling? Welcome everyone! Feel free to share whatever you like whether these are coping strategies, something that helped you or just vent. Most of us have been in your shoes some point or another.

@Helplessandheartbroke I feel like you. Constantly tired, partially by Escitalopram and partially by family burnout even though we keep distance compared to how it started.

Sometimes I wonder how I felt seeing and feeling so much going out and about my town, it's hard to remember how life felt before antidepressants, but I remember having more motivation.

Helplessandheartbroke · 05/08/2024 23:57

@popandchoc have they kicked in yet? How are you feeling about work?

@snowfoxglove ditto! I'm with you! Sometimes I have to remind myself what I've been through to get where I am x

Hi all, relative newcomer to this area of Mumsnet.

I'm on week 9 of sertraline..to say it's been a rocky journey is an understatement.

Sadly had my first panic attack for a month last night..my attacks try and tell me that I haven't got anxiety and that there is actually something seriously wrong with me medically, really strong health anxiety.

I have a GP appointment by coincidence later today, I might ask about raising my dosage from 50mg to 100 mg, but I don't want to start the side affects again.

popandchoc · 06/08/2024 09:17

Not kicked in yet really . Feeling a bit better this week but think that’s because I’m off work so the test will be when I go back . Dreading it going back though .

Went up to 50mg of sertraline yesterday and felt ok yesterday but struggled a bit to sleep and feel a bit off this morning . Hopefully will settle soon .

@Alltheunreadbooks hope the dr can help but does sound like an increase may be good. Hopefully the side effects won’t be too bad . I went from 50 to 100 last time and didn’t bring me many side effects but I do seem to be quite lucky not having many .

Thank you!

I'm fixated on not being able to breath properly the moment..I know it's all health anxiety driven but here we are. Maybe an increased dosage will help but really it's the propananol that really helps with anxiety isn't it?

As it goes, the not sleeping thing doesn't bother me that much if it comes without anxiety or related symptoms. I think I've got used to interrupted or very little sleep.

Whycantgiraffesdance · 06/08/2024 19:34

Hey all,

been doing much better lately, went on holiday last week which was lovely but finding the school holidays quite stressful and my DS is acting up so just trying to not let it get me down too much! Very aware of how bad it got at the start of the year and don’t want to go back there again!

sending hugs to those who need it xx

Helplessandheartbroke · 06/08/2024 22:36

@Whycantgiraffesdance hey lovely! Where did you go last week? I've booked some half days so I can take ds out but it's not easy is it!!!

@Alltheunreadbooks hope your gp could help!

@popandchoc hope you're feeling better

Alltheunreadbooks · 07/08/2024 10:32

Well, the GP isn't going to increase my sertraline, and won't prescribe any more Temazapan (sp) for sleep ( fair enough, they can be addictive apparently).

She has recommended a support course for Health Anxiety through the 'talking therapies' NHS programme, as that is my big issue at the moment; the constant thoughts that this isn't anxiety and that there is something life threateningly wrong with me that hasn't been diagnosed.

I'll just have to take it a day at a time.

Helplessandheartbroke · 08/08/2024 11:56

@Alltheunreadbooks I'm currently going through cbt with talking therapies.i hope they cam help x

We went to Somerset which was lovely, how are u @Helplessandheartbroke ?

im ok, been a bit anxious the last couple of days, I find it hard not to catastrophise and think ill spiral again! x

popandchoc · 10/08/2024 16:55

I’m starting to feel a bit more anxious heading towards work on Monday and what may await me .

On day 11 of sertraline now . Feeling ok on it but hard to know if feeling more relaxed as I’ve been off work or due to that . I imagine it hasn’t properly kicked in yet .

I organised some therapy sessions through a charity that deals with my industry and had first one Thursday . Was a good first session but she did say she thinks I am suffering or about to suffer from burnout and should take some time off . Just don’t feel like I can , although have had the last week off as holiday which has helped .

Helplessandheartbroke · 10/08/2024 18:23

@Whycantgiraffesdance sounds lovely! My friend goes to Somerset a lot near sand banks she loves it. I'm doing ok. Had a nice day out with ds today. Also anxious for work Monday feel it's going to be a shit show....@popandchoc if you can afford it maybe some time off will do you good

Big dramas from me. I suddenly got stressed almost a month ago, very anxious, suicidal and depressed too.

i actually went to my local A&E for I think 2 days to get a bed in the Maudsley hospital the A&E was horrific and the time in Maudsley wasn’t much better though they did look after me well. I was there almost 2 weeks and thought I was better so discharged myself to my mum’s house for support but lasted there a night and then went to Mayday hospital for another hellish 3 days and then got a bed in Bethlem Royal hospital which hasn’t been great but have noticed an improvement on meds which is good. My main doctor thought I was on a high dose so hopefully it’ll change soon and I’ll be out on Tuesday after ward round meeting as I feel able to cope better now. Not 100% what sure my meds were but are Valium and an anti anxiety drug, anti depression drug and also a sleeping tablet.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 10/08/2024 20:28

Sorry to hear everyone else’s stories but it’s interesting to hear how they work or don’t as in some cases.

Not sure if I agree with placing violent patients with non violent ones which has happened with me but more at Bethlem.

Helplessandheartbroke · 10/08/2024 20:36

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain wow you've had a rough month sweet I'm so glad youee feeling better now. What's your plan If you leave on Tuesday? Can you go to your mums?

Thanks for the support. I think I will stay. at my mum’s probably for a month for emotional support.

popandchoc · 11/08/2024 13:44

Sounds really tough . Good you can stay with your mum to help . When I had a tough time a couple of years ago I had my parents take it in turns to stay with me for a while .

Myj mum peters it if I stay with her and we both live nearby.

She’s fractured her knee recently too so I’ll be on cooking and housework duty until I get another job.

Helplessandheartbroke · 11/08/2024 23:18

Sounds perfect for you both!

Hey all. Things are good on a whole here. @Whycantgiraffesdance I also do what you do and worry it will spiral again.
Have been thinking about possibly trying to reduce my medication a little. Need to get a doctors appointment to discuss it.
Hope everyone is OK. X
