Has anyone had any great break through on anxiety meds? Been on citalopram and sertraline but didn't help and made me feel numb x

@TheBuggerlugs no improvement yet but only on day 3. Sleep is not good tossing and turning.
I just feel so uninterested in everything and my wee boy who's 5 is desperate for me to do stuff.

@TheBuggerlugs you are so wise. I had an awful morning and early afternoon but had a good late afternoon and evening.
I'm heading to bed with my magnesium hoping for a good sleep.

Why is it so hard to get the right meds? Too many pharmaceutical companies making money

Not sure it’s that but that we’re only early in privitisation and the NHS m/ government are reluctant to give us the good drugs as they can be addictive

Day 13, finally feel like I’ve turned a corner.
Scared to say it in case it’s a one off and tomorrow is horrific again!

Haggisfish3 · 19/08/2023 22:00

I found I gradually got less and less bad, rather than ‘better’. And one day I realised I hadn’t cried for weeks.

BetsyBobbins · 19/08/2023 22:36

Another anxious Annie here. Used to have constant panic attacks linked with PTSD and OCD. Was discharged from psychiatric care in 2016 and had been managing okay ish with Sertraline only ever since. I do take Pregabalin but I take it for an unrelated condition and it does nothing for my anxiety. I had been given Quetiapine for panic attacks but I don't think it's the correct med for it, so much so I never took it.

Thinking of asking to being referred to psychiatrist again, made it's time for a meds review as my anxiety has been through the roof in the past six months or so due to many stressful situations in the last six months or so, mainly related to work but also family problems.
I probably diagnosed myself with 4 different kinds of cancer after having a full on period after 4 years on the menopause.

What works for your panic attacks? Diazepam?

BetsyBobbins · 19/08/2023 22:43

I realise my post reads like a lot of nonsense with repeated words but I'm not really well right now after yet another family argument.

Anxiety is a bastard thing to deal with. I feel like my logical ability is on a constant fight with my emotions and nothing makes sense, the thoughts are frightfully real. Thinking of you all and sending positive energy to all of us, one day at a time

Annaishere · 19/08/2023 22:49

@BetsyBobbins I suffered with anxiety and severe panic attacks for about 14 years. The only antidepressant that ever helped me was citalopram. I was prescribed chlorpromazine off label which is an antipsychotic. This type of drug is amazing for anxiety. I’ve a psychiatrist and was prescribed benzodiazepines for a few months and it really helped. I hope you can work it out xx

Thank you 😊

Like I said, I'll ask to be referred to a psychiatrist again and pray for a good one at that as sometimes you get a bad one. I think Sertraline is not working anymore for me but the thought of trying new meds and see how you get on with them fills me with dread.
How did you get on with the benzodiazepines?

@TheBuggerlugs thanks🙂

I hope everyone is having a good enough morning x

Dawn1331 · 20/08/2023 10:05

Morning all! Yesterday morning was hell, didn't want to get up, sweating, worried about a wee lump on my neck, threw up, clinging to my hubby and was shaking really bad.
Took two hours to get up and I just was a robot till about 2 then it started to subside a bit.
My problem is a glass of wine makes all my problems go away and it's such a relief but don't want to head down that road.
I'm happy to set up the WhatsApp group if anyone wants to join - quicker way to communicate and support each other.
Another shaky morning here x

@BetsyBobbins the benzodiazepines can just stop a panic attack if you take it when it starts. They’re great, but they are tolerance building so you have to use them sparingly otherwise take breaks of a week or two here and there
