Hi I had my first baby Just over 3 weeks ago - my pregnancy was amazing I loved it, loved being pregnant and I have always struggled with anxiety so I was thinking wow this is great I am fine. I have been on citalopram for years but when fell pregnant the GP moved me on the sertraline and I was completely fine when transitioning. When we first got back from hospital (I had a c section) I felt very emotional and anxious but put this down to ā€˜baby blues’ and sure enough it passed and I spent 2 weeks with my partner enjoying our time together with our new baby. We went out loads and he’s amazing and so hands on. The day before he went back to work (this Monday) I felt a an overwhelming sense of anxiety and really panicked and couldn’t stop crying - I haven’t stopped since! Every day I’ve cried and can’t sleep even when baby sleeps and just feel so on edge. I’m so frustrated because I take sertraline anyway so I’m thinking Jesus what hope have I got?

Has any one else you is already on medication felt this way after having a baby? Feeling low :(

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 06/02/2020 20:58

I looked up how long the drug stays in your body, decided it wasn't worth stopping, abd took my normal dose this morning. The yawning seems to have been a weird anomaly which stopped after a couple of hours. The diarrhoea is still there, but I seem to lost my appetite now, so at least there isn't as much to come out...

I feel really tired because I just couldn't sleep last night. I was sort of on the verge of dropping off but not actually managing it, and having weird intrusive thoughts that would suddenly make me wide awake. But - I do feel slightly better than this time yesterday. I'm taking that as a win!

Day 2 for me after finally plucking up the courage to speak to the GP. I've been so low for 8 months or so it has become my normal.
Feeling really anxious about side effects, but also relieved that I have started on the road to recovery.
Yesterday I felt a bit spaced out and really restless, and then woke up this morning with palpitations and such a yuck mouth it felt like something had died in there.

IamHyouweegobshite · 07/02/2020 22:09

I had to stop two weeks ago, had terrible migraines, and couldn't cope with the pain. Saw the gp yest, she put me onto citalopram 10mg. Took it last night, really bad stomach this morn and feeling sick, dry mouth already.

Hairydogmummy · 09/02/2020 12:27

@Vml12345 that's great news about cyst. I'm having the same problem we both had on the Sertraline with the Escitalopram. Two weeks after upping dose, the watery diary is suddenly back with a vengeance Shock

WhatNowFrantic · 09/02/2020 13:02

Hi everyone, interesting to read your stories. My DS started sertraline 25mg 7 days ago, has had a few mild side effects, bit of diarrhoea, dizziness for a day, but the worse thing has been insomnia, he takes the tablets in the morning but wakes up several times a night.
Today he went up to 50mg as per Drs advise but since yesterday has been really anxious and down, much like he was before the medication
Is this normal? has anyone experienced worsening mood after a week?
TIA

Vml12345 · 09/02/2020 17:20

@Hairydogmummy oh no that’s rubbish!! I bet I would be the same. I’ve not started the fluoxetine yet as trying hard to manage without but it’s not easy! What you going to do? Xxx

@Vml12345 I don't know. Am going to doctor anyway on Thursday so I guess I'll have to take immodium till then and see what he says. I'm gutted tbh. I imagine I'm going to be same with all SSRIs. It's so odd tho how it's taken roughly same amount of time with both drugs.

IamHyouweegobshite · 09/02/2020 21:51

@whatnowfrantic. I didn't notice a worsening of mood whilst on sertraline. In fact all my symptoms were physical, as in dizzy, migraines, nausea, diarrhoea and really tired etc. I've been on citalopram since Thurs, I'm off my food, nausea, diarrhoea or stomach cramps, and at the moment indigestion.

Vml12345 · 14/02/2020 18:07

@Hairydogmummy did you stop the escitalopram? Xx

Hairydogmummy · 15/02/2020 01:20

@Vml12345 no the diarrhoea stopped again bizarrely! I had a bit of a blip this morning where I felt really anxious but okay now. How are you?

Hairydogmummy · 15/02/2020 01:23

@WhatNowFrantic I think that's fairly normal from what I understand. It's notorious for making you feel worse before you get better and it most likely to do that in younger people.

BlackCatFan · 15/02/2020 11:48

I've just taken my first tablet after 8 months of being scared too take it. So far feel a bit anxious but not sure if that's just because I was so anxious about it to start with

BlackCatFan · 15/02/2020 11:48

*too scared to take it.

Vml12345 · 15/02/2020 12:53

That’s exactly how I felt.. well done for taking your first tablet! I lasted 6 weeks but had to stop because I got really bad diarrhoea. I sometimes think fear of side effects is worse than the actual side effects x

WhatNowFrantic · 15/02/2020 16:07

DS has now been on a week of 25mg and a week of 50mg (sertraline) The fear of side effects was definately worse than the actual effects. He had dizziness and insomnia in the first week, but nothing really since upping to 50mg.
He's still quite down but only 2 weeks in so hopefully that will change.
Well done blackcat for taking the first tablet! I hope they help you.

BlackCatFan · 19/02/2020 13:11

How is everyone? It's day 5 for me. I started on 12.5mg and today went up to 25mg.. not sure if the increase was too soon but I'm kind of in a hurry because I have a job offer to start on 4th March. At the moment I'm not sure I will be .. going to see how it goes.

Have had dark thoughts, can't get out of bed. I was supposed to have an appointment this morning but had to call them to rearrange, just couldn't get up. Feel unwell in general

The only real positives are - I'm sleeping through the night (my anxiety was horrendous at night) and I'm waking up without feelings of dread, and I'm not worrying as much. I can't seem to latch on to worrying thoughts.. which is a good thing.

SuDaji · 26/02/2020 21:31

Was anyone else bothered by tiredness? I've just gone to 50mg from 25, which made me feel well rested, and I'm wiped. I have a full time job and I've booked myself in for some gym classes next week because I thought it would be good for my mental health and now I don't know where I'll get the energy. I'm just yawning all the time and my pupils are like saucers into the bargain. Colleagues must think I've a much more interesting social life than I actually have!

WhatNowFrantic · 27/02/2020 11:03

When are you taking the tablets?
DS takes his in the morning. He had bad insomnia for the first couple of weeks so was tired as a result of that, but is fine now.

SuDaji · 27/02/2020 12:53

@whatnowfrantic I'm taking them at night because I had a feeling they'd make me drowsy, as I'm quite sensitive to anything that can do that. Hopefully it will settle down in time but I felt great on the 25mg for a week and now I feel like I could sleep all day.

fluffy71 · 27/02/2020 13:05

Tried two local playgroups this morning with my toddler and they were both closed due to staff illness. This has never happened before. Happen to know the person who runs one of the groups has close family members who work in medicine. Should I be concerned in terms of Coronavirus?

Vml12345 · 15/03/2020 19:16

How is everyone doing! This Coronavirus has sent my anxiety through the roof! How is everyone else dealing with it! Xx

forgetthehousework · 15/03/2020 19:44

I've just started sertraline. The coronavirus is the final straw, hope it works - just 25mg for a few days then 50mg, but after 2 days I've still got all the panic symptoms and now I don't know if they're a side effect. Just have to wait and see. It was nice to find this thread.

chocolatespiders · 15/03/2020 19:53

I have been on 50mg for approx three weeks.
Had appt tomorrow booked with gp to review but she has called to cancel it due to Corona.
Feel much better since taking it and she has prescribed me two more months. She said to call if I need to speak to her or need to up the dose.
How do I know if I need to up the dose?
Felt so low for so long anything is better than where I was.

WhatNowFrantic · 15/03/2020 23:10

DS has been taking 50mg for 6 weeks now and he is so much better! He and I were quite scared of them and possible side effects but he's been lucky and just had a bit of nausea and tiredness.
He does drink at weekends still tho which worries me, but his mental state has greatly improved
