@irrationalrainbow that's brilliant you're feeling better! I remember what you were like when you started. I'd say the Sertraline took at least 8 weeks for me but that's when I had to come off them!

Vml12345 · 17/01/2020 18:00

Dr has suggested I try fluoxetine next. Not sure why that and not Escitalopram! I trust him though so didn’t question his choice! I’m going to wait a couple of weeks as I have a really important period at work coming up and cannot be distracted or take any time off. I am so glad you are feeling ok @Hairydogmummy and @irrationalrainbow! I just hope I can get to that point soon xxxx

Thank you @Mooserp Thanks

Hairydogmummy · 18/01/2020 00:00

That's interesting @Vml12345 cos one of the three doctors I've had said fluoxetine wasn't as good for anxiety, more for depression cos I asked for that as I heard it was good. I get conflicting advice and never get to speak to same person twice which drives me mad! Be interesting to see how you get on if you give it a try. My friend's on it and she likes it.

Vml12345 · 22/01/2020 15:03

How’s everyone doing ? Xx

Hi @Vml12345 How are you?
I'm on day 25 for me. Still on 50mg. I've been taking Zopiclone to help me sleep. Got given 7 days worth. I have had some nights sleep without the sleeping pills.
Appetite has come back.
Anxiety is much less but still there in the afternoon. Anxiety is at a manageable level. Have felt some hope for the future.

The most amazing news today! My mum had her results and her lymph nodes and margin around the breast cancer have shown cancer free!!!!! She'll have radiotherapy in a few weeks. She is such a strong woman! Oh so relieved! Grin

Hairydogmummy · 22/01/2020 20:37

That's super news about your mum @SeaShell33 and great that you're sleeping more! I'm going to go up to 10mg of Escitalopram tomorrow I think. Feeling a bit anxious again

SeaShell33 · 22/01/2020 20:50

Thank you @Hairydogmummy Smile
How long have you been on Escitalopram for now? How are you finding it? I'd say it's normal to feel anxious before a dosage change so don't feel bad about feeling like that Thanks

Hairydogmummy · 22/01/2020 21:54

Thank you! Two weeks now. 5mg isn't really a therapy dose so I guess I shouldn't be surprised I'm a bit anxious!

CagedBirdwithoutAKey · 23/01/2020 13:10

I started exactly 2 weeks ago and had to re-visit my GP yesterday due to the side effects so far. I didn't think I would get many, as I have been on an SSRI for many years (Citalopram), but my main ones at the mo are nauseousness and extreme fatigue. But has anybody else experienced a kind of rage with them? Sad I'm really angry and snappy on them?

Vml12345 · 24/01/2020 17:23

Hi all, been back at go today as found a lump in my left breast and been referred! Health anxiety gone into overdrive and can’t focus! I’m going to have to start on fluoxetine as I can’t carry on like this! When is it going to end... there’s alwAys something health wise wrong with me šŸ˜•

Hairydogmummy · 24/01/2020 18:33

Oh no @Vml12345 what a nightmare. I'd be exactly the same. Keeping everything crossed for you. Hopefully just a cyst or something. Good luck on the Fluoxetine! Keep us posted with how you get on xx

SeaShell33 · 24/01/2020 20:27

@Vml12345 Thinking of you and hoping it's something like a cyst. There are loads of non concerning reasons for breast lumps. The main thing is you've seen your doctor and getting it sorted which is a brave step. Thanks Hope the fluoxetine works for you. Let us know how you go on xx

SeaShell33 · 24/01/2020 20:34

Saw the doctor for a medication review. She's given me Propanolol to try in the evenings if I get sleep anxiety. I've still got 2 Zopiclone left but don't want to take them. Trying my best to sleep naturally. Stared reading The Effortless Sleep Method.
Only got two hours last night but still better than none at all. This was probably because DH decided to bring DD into our bed as she woke up with a cough. She's never slept in our bed before so I couldn't settle. Both DD and DH sound asleep next to me while I got wound up Confused
If no joy with the Propanolol I'm going to try 25mg Sertraline as I'm thinking 50mg is too stimulating for me. I'm much less anxious now my mum has had good results.

Hairydogmummy · 27/01/2020 22:11

How are you today @Vml12345? How's everyone else? I went up to 10mg Escitalopram on Saturday and seems okay so far. Very stressed at work at the moment though and stuff going on at home too as per usual!

Vml12345 · 28/01/2020 09:53

I’m ok thank you. Also very stressed at work but I seem to be able to cope with that! It’s the other stuff I struggle with! Is the escitalopram similar to sertraline with the side effects? Xx

Hairydogmummy · 28/01/2020 13:03

@Vml12345 no my bowels are completely fine. A bit constipated if anything. Bit of dizziness when I first started but nothing else. Bit harder to orgasm maybe?

Vml12345 · 28/01/2020 13:31

Doesn’t sound too bad! Is it having an affect on your anxiety xx

Hairydogmummy · 29/01/2020 07:05

Yes I think so I'm definitely a lot better! Have you started the fluoxetine?

Anonymouse12 · 04/02/2020 19:46

I took it for 3 days and had to stop. I didn’t think the panic feelings could get any worse, boy I was wrong. Side effects worse than the reason I was taking them! GP appt day after next to discuss.

Vml12345 · 04/02/2020 20:54

Lump was just a cyst! Phew! That was all a bit stressful! How’s everyone doing z

After almost 6 months and loads of wobbles and coming down from 100mg to roughly 75mg, Sertraline has properly kicked in for me. I'm generally more relaxed, less anxious, more chatty, more content in myself and even having a giggle at times. Not nearly as down on myself as I've been for years. I'm so glad I stuck with it, felt like jacking it in a few times but the long breaking in period has been worth it. Feeling more 'me' than ever, in a funny kind of way, but definitely reminds me of how I was more carefree when I was younger.

Really hope it lasts. Still get pretty tired in the afternoons, still waking up too early in the mornings most days, but I'm coping better some days so it's not getting to me.

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 05/02/2020 16:46

I'm late to the thread, and I can see a lot of you have moved on from sertraline now, but I took my first dose this morning and now I'm yawning my head off! It's one of the listed side effects, but not a common one... the trouble is that I have an important meeting tomorrow followed by an appraisal, and I really can't be sitting there yawning every couple of minutes. It would look awfully rude and I can't explain the real reason. I don't think I'm even tired really, but all the yawning has tricked my body into thinking it is, so I'm having a bit of a lie down at the moment.

If I just didn't take a tablet tomorrow and resumed on Friday, would it make any difference now? Or is the drug in my system and there's nothing I can do about it? I suppose after a single tablet I won't be affected by withdrawal or anything, I would just like to act normally for this one day.

BlackCatFan · 05/02/2020 18:30

Planning on starting sertraline tomorrow. Going to start on 12.5mg and go up slowly. I've had the prescription since October and I've been too scared to take them.
The problem is I've been offered a job to start in 3 weeks and I don't know whether to bother starting the tablets. At the same time my anxiety is bad, and my depression is quite bad too at the moment. I don't know what to do. I'm so scared of the side effects! It's exhausting 😢

InFiveMins · 06/02/2020 09:35

I've been on sertraline for 6 weeks, started on 50mg and am now on 100mg. Haven't experienced any unpleasant side effects - it has made me a little sleepy so I have been going to bed earlier than usual, but that's all.
