Citalopram day 11

Hi,
I've been on citalopram 10mg for 11 days. The first 5 we're hideous, I was so low I was almost suicidal- then the following 4 we're amazing- I felt like myself again. Only just as I started to relax I've had 2 days of feeling anxious, lacking motivation and being very irritable. I'm so disappointed as I really thought I had my life back. Over the weekend I had my dd on my own as dh was away so I think that made me tense. Should I increase my meds or hope this is just a blip? Xxx

@Shockers I think what he means is that it can take approx 4-6 weeks to feel the full benefit of the meds working...perhaps I worded it incorrectly sorry! 😊

Ah! I was confused! I felt different after the first day, but then crashed on day 5/6.

I spoke to the Dr yesterday about reducing my dose from 20 to 10, as I felt weird once it had built up. He told me that they start ‘little old ladies’ on 10... I explained to him that I am in fact a little old lady and gave him my best disapproving look. I now have a prescription for 10mg, on the understanding that I double the dose if it doesn’t appear to be having the desired result.

10mg works well for a lot of people @shockers! So fingers crossed! I think I feel better than I did a while ago, however I'm still a little bit up and down, I really do hope the little reminders and waves of anxiety ease off when the meds are in full flow. Not quite at 3 weeks yet so defo time for improvement ...fingers crossed 🤞🏻

I’m finding that I’m crying again (not as much as before though), but my DD is in hospital and the last few days have been very stressful. Perhaps it wasn’t the right time to reduce the dose, but I’m going to try to stay on 10mg.

Hope you continue to make progress Alicia!

Sorry to hear about your daughter @Shockers ...hope everything goes okay! Crying isn't going to stop in situations like that, I'm sure it's perfectly normal. Stick at it if you can...I'm sure things will level out for you

Morning all!!! I'm sat in my docs waiting room awaiting my first session of CBT. Feel a little anxious! Hope everyone is doing well? Have a good day Smile

Shockers · 13/02/2019 12:17

How did it go @Alicia44 ?

Alicia44 · 13/02/2019 21:19

@shockers it went quite well thanks! I go back in 2 weeks time. I have to fill out a 'worry chart'...explaining my thoughts/feelings/in which situation etc. Then we will work through it on the next appointment. I've got my review with the GP re the citalopram on Tuesday. I even went for an Indian Head Massage after work today. It was so relaxing. Hope you're well

I know this is so random as you citalopram post was from 2014, but I am currently increasing my meds from 10mg to 20mg. I was wondering how you felt and HOW LONG DID THE SIDE EFFECTS LAST? I feel awful: faint, sick, insomnia, upset tummy, anxiety all the time, tired. Similar? I didn;t even have this many side effects when I first started on them! Just wondering if i'll ever feel better!
Thank you x

Hey, so this is so random, and I know i just asked about the increase from 10mg to 20mg and how long side effects last, but i just wanted to say this:
I started cit in July (10mg) after a breakdown and I see many new people on this forum who are just starting out and are a bit anxious about it. I would just like to say that this tiny little pill saved my life. Without it, i would quite frankly be dead. For everyone who as just started, keep going! You will get there sooner than you think. If anyone has any questions, I'm always free x
