Snow through bright light! What a beautiful image!

cityhobgoblin · 16/12/2011 20:13

Not as good as your beautiful descriptions Tianc but a startling sight - the garden birds stopped to look then changed tweet Grin

shodatin · 16/12/2011 21:09

Hello again, and sorry we seem to have crossed again upward, having dealt with the Skype conversation and arranged food, it was then time to eat and absent myself for the usual couple of hours.

I'm glad you're going to be with your family upward, as it's been a stressful time for you, and especially with today's transport problems. Good thinking to mention your meds, and hope you're feeling more confident now.
I don't believe there's anything odd going on with the email from consultant either, so please try not to worry about this, and remember you've had a stressful time.

Am amazed at the snow you mention tianc; it's just been raining here but nothing unusual at all.

I shall probably find another half-dozen posts have arrived since I returned and started this one, so I hope it's not totally irrelevant.

Upwardandonward · 16/12/2011 21:53

Thanks for the pm and suggestion, hob - I've reported & asked.

I think you're right, tianc A friend said that she'd found it a bit of a shock when her (different) consultant did the same. Maybe more paranoid - feels like someone's in here watching :s

Sleep is important - going to take sleeping tablets alongside everything else tonight (that was what I was asking about).

take good care everyone.

Upwardandonward · 16/12/2011 21:59

Going to head bedwards now -thanks

Tianc · 16/12/2011 22:00

Sleep well, hope tomorrow's better.

cityhobgoblin · 16/12/2011 23:10

Fingers crossed for a peaceful night to you , upward . The interrupted sleep you've been having can only bre making evethings so much worse

It wasn't "settling" snow , shodatin Smile. You'd smile at my grumbles about the dip in temp , compared to how chilly it gets in your rugged area

Will quickly PM you & Tianc if that's OK to explain why I made suggestion to upward by PM rather than here

I know how you feel when there's a lot of posting in a short time , shodatin ( I know is very positive but how to keep up !)

Hope we're all able to relax in summerhouse before a good sleep

Tianc · 17/12/2011 00:15

Sounds like busy days all round today, though so annoying for Upward to have been messed around by transport.

I finally have the door curtain up, though not perfect, just in time for this cold weather. Think we all got snow except shodatin, although it didn't lie here either. DP also working from home (snap, hob!) and behaving just like your birds - he came excitedly to wake me when it started!

Glad you managed your Skype, shodatin.

Hope we all get some good, restoring rest.

shodatin · 17/12/2011 11:48

Woke about 1.30 a.m. to find I'd been asleep with light on, pen in hand etc, and of course laptop still running and lights left on in rest of house, so felt a bit silly as well as shaken, and had not planned to exit without a "goodnight". Wish I'd read tianc's post about the lovely summerhouse ready for any stray stargazers.....

Hope upward managed a better night with a suitable tablet, sometimes it's a good idea, as you know, and I really hope you feel more yourself today. Hob had a good idea about the thread, I think, which might allow you to feel more relaxed about it. (Hob frequently has good ideas, of course).

It's still very cold here, road icy, but I really should get out and do last chore for this week, so am hoping car starts.

Hope you have something nice planned for weekend upward, despite cold weather, and tianc, bet you're pleased with the door curtain today!

cityhobgoblin · 17/12/2011 13:07

Sorry you were shaken by waking like that , shodatin - I am always doing that myself & last night missed Tianc's magnificently cheering , comforting summerhouse

Really hoping you're back safely - don't like the sound of these icy roads at all ,though I know you need to get chore out of the way

Hope you have a bit of cheering distraction today , upward , even if not up to going into busy town

Still smiling at DP waking you in state of snow glee , Tianc... I shocked self by doing same to poor dh during a stray flurry last week

< still blushing at shodatins kind words >
MIL's birthday do , and I've slept most of my housework & Christmas prep time this week ... will tell DN about your purring beagle , shodatin

Xmas Grin at Tianc dusting stray magic from hands

Upwardandonward · 17/12/2011 14:00

Thanks for the good wishes, tianc, hob and shodatin - maybe tonight will be better (and at least all my Christmas shopping is done), very tired now.

I hope your trip went ok, shodatin

A door curtain makes such a difference with warmth, tianc

I hope your MiL's birthday goes well hob

The idea is a good one, worth doing when we get to 1000 posts here?

cityhobgoblin · 17/12/2011 15:47

Sorry you're exhausted , upward - very hard on you
Glad you like idea and sure this thread being on here has helped non posters toowould be ffun to reach 1000 for New Year

Hope shodatin back safely
running lateBrews

shodatin · 17/12/2011 16:43

Could kick myself - had been happily reading posts when I realised I'd not let you lovely people know I'd returned from my icy expedition, so started typing when Skype buzzed me, and somehow I've lost everything I'd typed previously! Don't know what happened, but apologies for delay.
Had a happy few minutes after my trip, going round back garden, renewing birds' water dish etc, then picked first evergreens plus only flowers still blooming - feverfew - which actually look surprisingly good mixed with the three silk Christmas Roses I have in bottom of box plus fake holly-berries (usually leave real ones for wildlife).
With busy shoppers and lack of parking spaces, it is now starting to feel like Christmas, and with chores finished, am feeling happy about it too.

Good for you for finishing the door curtain tianc, it will make a difference I'm sure, and we'll probably have more ice before long.
Hope upward had a better night and a good day today.

Upwardandonward · 17/12/2011 18:57

The flowers/foliage sound like just the thing to get in the mood, shodatin Nice to be feeling Christmassy.

My plan now is to get to Saturday, step by step - I think it's too easy for what I'm feeling to be misinterpreted.

shodatin · 17/12/2011 21:41

Thanks for the Brew upward, I frequently forget it, as keeping a glass of water alongside means I no longer get thirsty.

Home does now look festive, as about half the usual cards have arrived, and spare room is tidied and ready for DB's visit, although I usually enjoy Christmas by myself .
Have you organised any decorations this year, or are they not worth-while as you'll be away with family?

Hope you're feeling more relaxed, and not too tired.
Of course you'll make it to Saturday, do it a day at a time and try not to get too tired. Having a decent sleep is important of course, and I find that having something to look forward to every day is really helpful, even if it's only locking the door and going to bed!

Have just watched a TV programme about Christmas music, not awfully good as a programme but some interesting stuff about early carols, and I had a quick wonder if you were planning to get to anything musical this Christmas?

Upwardandonward · 17/12/2011 22:42

I'm going to family on the Saturday - I think I'll get there too. I must go on iplayer to look at some of the more esoteric programmes/

I need to see where and what is happening locally as far as carols go.

I'm going to bed, sleep well all.

shodatin · 17/12/2011 22:50

Sleep well upward, hope it's a peaceful night and a good day tomorrow. Good idea to go to bed, am off too.

cityhobgoblin · 18/12/2011 00:45

Phew , glad you got back OK , shodatin . Shame about lost post and parking hell but what lovely posts , evoking calm readiness & a sense of great cosiness

I can see it would make it very difficult for you upward if friends etc did misinterpret how you are atm , especially as you need lots of R&R and some treats . Taking it step by step this week sounds very sensible , and you can see how you feel once you finally get more sleep , which I know you valueand have been trying >
Xmas GrinLike the sound of your viewing plans and hope you can find carols in the area

MIL''s birthday do went very well , thank you upward, though she is frailer still . DN and rest of beagle family were absolutely delighted to hear of your purring hound , shodatin . Lots of arguing about politics & religion Shock , symptom maybe of a harsh year. Poor dh was nodding off even there & is trying to catch up on his rest

Hope Tianc and all lovely cybergardeners have had a largely good day < HF purrs sleepily , in a fashion very calming to humans >

Did most of the food shopping for Xmas this evening as festivities less tiring than usual , & shop was quite quiet ... took it slowly , obviously ,chose shop in more friendly locale than own as round here people trample each other to reach last sprout

Thank you for Brew and stoking stove , upward
More stargazing tonight perhaps , as clear skies here at least

cityhobgoblin · 18/12/2011 00:48

sorry for typos about sleep , upward - was trying to say I know you were talking about your extra understanding of the importance of plenty of rest well before this week , and you've been trying so hard to get decent sleep ... hope we all do so tonight

cityhobgoblin · 18/12/2011 00:50

ahem - PS , meant to say rotten about lost post etc & thank you for lovely posts despite these energy - sappers

Tianc · 18/12/2011 01:38

Carols services sound a lovely idea, Upward. Jolly impressed that your Christmas shopping is now done.

And very glad to hear you too made it safely into the pre-Christmas maelstrom and back, shodatin, ice notwithstanding. Love the flower ideas - a friend gave me Christmas rose plants last spring, so if they bloom I may take inspiration from you and cut them for indoors.

Sorry you had such a frightening falling asleep/waking last night. Very disconcerting. Hope today you made it safely to bed, locked up and lights out.

hob that's wonderful that MIL's birthday went well. Can't get over the number of beagles on this thread! DP is shaking his head at "trample each other to reach last sprout" - he says the one great privilege of being a grown-up is never to have to eat another sprout. (Disclaimer: he does eat them if I cook them - but in the knowledge he can say No...)

And I hope we all sleep well tonight, or at least get enough rest to face the day.

shodatin · 18/12/2011 10:52

Morning all - hope we all slept well, and am particularly thinking of onward, who's been suffering recently.

I slept well thanks tianc, right through the alarm, making me late for meds, one of which (liquid) I dropped on the floor - no problem actually as I was once warned by a locum GP that this could happen, and always to have a spare. (Am mentioning it in case anyone here has only one bottle available at present).

Tianc's DP has the right idea about sprouts; have bought a handful just to look right with the chestnuts, but now wondering about using alternative recipe (chopped & stir-fried in butter)

Time for a tray of Brews and Biscuits.

Glad your MiL managed to enjoy her party hob, and sure she'd appreciate your DH's presence even more, seeing he was so tired. Hope he can soon have a good rest for the holidays, ( and everyone else).

Can't have too many beagles, tianc! Am still awaiting hobs latest tale, and don't mind a PM if no-one else is very interested.

Must go and break ice on bird dish; lovely sunny day, what's left of it.

shodatin · 18/12/2011 11:17

Quick note for hob - Just checked with friend, and soot-clearer which is sprinkled on fires is called "Imp" - regret her husband not available to give chemical info, but it would be worth asking/googling (safety measure).

Tianc · 18/12/2011 12:27

My I ask how you do chestnuts and sprouts, shodatin. It's been my one big failure - couldn't even get the chestnuts right, and they're a favourite when other people cook them...

And beagles never boring!

That's a good tip about a spare bottle . But sorry you then had to deal with mucky clean up: how annoying.

Tianc · 18/12/2011 12:37

Two sounds in my house just now:

  1. bang-bang of washing machine door unlocking
  2. splat-splat of sudden rain against window.

It lures me with its bright, shiny, morning blueness, and then when there's no going back, thick grey clouds scud in and start to dribble. Another houseful of laundry today, then.
