hello Smile

OP posts:
shodatin · 28/07/2011 17:01

Have had some of your lovely sunshine today, and enjoyed pottering. You must be so pleased with the amount you've managed to do to the house, TIANC and actually seeing the result of improved health must be encouraging.
Sorry - must get Skype

shodatin · 28/07/2011 17:25

Sorry about that, little brother phoning at an odd time so thought I'd better answer in case it was a message to say phone is down or similar, but no problem after all.
It's been a good day for me, in fact have been doing a bit of calligraphy as something original for a friend's birthday - I go for months without thinking of it, then suddenly get an idea or creative urge, which is good when it happens and makes a break from gardening or being outdoors all day. Hope everyone else has enjoyed the day too, as sun makes way over yardarm.

ThisIsANiceCage · 28/07/2011 21:48

Very admiring of your creative urges and many many talents, *shodatin.

Exhausting day, tho good (watched other people work!). Crawling to bed. Hope everyone else had good one, and sleeps as soundly as I think I shall. Night night.

shodatin · 28/07/2011 23:15

Night TIANC and to everyone else.

cityhobgoblin · 29/07/2011 14:32

Oh no , so sorry couldn't say hello yesterday but was frantic day & got in v late then fell asleep sleep plus overslept - I know it must seem very odd when I don't manage a short post < shakes self >.

Glad you had a good day yesterday TIANC, & hope exhaustion has abated .Thanks for reassuring me - your trusty mask sounds just the job . How exciting to be progressing towards your home office & the improvements it will bring . < glimpses dragonflies darting past from TIANC's cyberpond >

I think shodatin' s little white cat may win the hotly - contested prize for bizarre feline behaviour - sitting in sugarbowls GrinGrin . I love the sound of her joining in with your doggies' antics - you must have lovely memeories of them .

Cats do seem to repeatedly perform an action they know will genuinely distress their human in order to test how important they are to said human - perhaps they're assessing whether they're safe in a permanent home . Ours likes to roll on our crops - crack , crunch ( you came to our aid by suggesting sticks around targeted plants ) but stops just short of performing the death blow to the plant . She closely observes our reaction ...

Dear heavens your poor Father must have developed a near phobia of cats after that attack , the stuff of nightmares.
Many commiserations on Slugs of Doom ( another term I've pinched for own use from now on , thank you TIANC ) they are very munchy round here too

Very pleased you plan to pass on my wishes to your niece , shodatin but I hope it doesn't depress her further as she might not feel like meeting yet more new people & doing new things . Your bout of inspired calligraphy sounds intriguing & am sure your friend will love it .

Hope upwardandonward is having a day which enables her to feel she's making gradual progress towards feeling fitter or simply being able to enjoy more of her time .

Hope madmouse & kizzie are having good weeks and that the pixie clan are well.

Upwardandonward · 29/07/2011 19:02

Good evening, I hope everyone's had a good day!

I fought through the tourist masses to finally get tablecloth, coasters etc. I'm also looking forward to getting broadband in a few weeks so I can read websites properly and respond. :)

Upwardandonward · 29/07/2011 19:12

I also wanted to say thanks for all the offers to send me stuff whilst I was in - they were appreciated, I just wasn't in a good state of mind.

shodatin · 29/07/2011 20:28

Am so pleased you're feeling better, upwardandonward, and know what you mean about tourist masses - this is a coastal area, and the parking's now at difficult level.

It will be so much easier for you with broadband organised - I came late to PCs and have never known anything else, in fact I'd find it too difficult to manage posting on a cell-phone, so I congratulate you on how much you've accomplished.

Thanks for mentioning the other stuff too; we all wanted to do something to help(and I still have some snack food stored away!) It's a big relief that you're recovered and at home again, and look forward to hearing more from you.

hob, I still have no idea why cat sat in sugar-bowls, but as we had an hotel and tea-room at the time, there were lots of bowls available, and even changing to sugar-lumps didn't stop that kitten from sitting in them.

shodatin · 30/07/2011 00:15

Time to make way to bed again -, I think days are getting shorter already, and will wish everyone a good night.

ThisIsANiceCage · 30/07/2011 00:47

Ooh, Upward, tablecloths sound like proper settling in! Hope you get your broadband without too much hassle. Seconding shodatin's awe at you managing to post so much from a phone.

So lovely to hear from you hob, hope you're recovering from your frantic day yesterday and are getting enough rest. I'm sure you're smack on with the feline psychology - testing their staff owners and also seeking attention by any means.

shodatin, my goodness, hat off to you for running an hotel and a tea-room. I've merely been a waitress and chamber-maid, short-term, and have a tiny inkling just how much hard, unremitting work the full version is. Serious respect.

Was this while you had the sociable beagle? Bet he adored it, if so. Grin

Hope madmouse is still cosseting herself as much as possible on her week off. And that kizzie is relaxing at her sister's. Butterpie, there's Brew in the pot for you in the cybergarden, whenever you fancy it, and Pixie you know it's there for you even if you aren't posting.

Here's wishing everyone a good weekend, and a refreshing night's sleep to start it off.

Upwardandonward · 30/07/2011 09:16

Good morning everyone.

Here's some fresh Brew to start off the weekend. I'm going to find a shady spot v

shodatin · 30/07/2011 11:47

Morning upwardandonward, lovely to see you again and thanks for the [brew} which I so often forget.
We must have shady spots here, as TIANC and hob in particular have organised some super garden areas over the last few months, and indeed some super creatures, like sleepy cats which don't attack wild-life (apart from recent rescued dragon-fly, but that was more curiosity than serious hunting, I'm sure)
.
We have some really nice children visiting too, like smiling Mouseling who makes sand-pies for us all, and kizzie's twins who are always beautifully behaved and know instinctively when to stop eating ice-creams before feeling poorly.
The bees were a recent addition, both hob and I doing some research and deciding we'd find an amiable expert nearby who'd deal with them while we enjoyed their soothing presence and the honey.

There's the Moorish fountain too, and a self-watering system plus heater for the cooler evenings, in fact, we aim to have the perfect garden available for friendly drop-ins, with never-ending [brews] and non-alcoholic champagne.
You're very welcome here upwardandonward, as we had you in mind when designing this meeting-place.

ThisIsANiceCage · 30/07/2011 11:51

Mornin' all. Hope it's a good 'un for people.

shodatin · 30/07/2011 19:56

Hi TIANC, thanks for good wishes for weekend and saying you're impressed with my catering efforts. It was so exhausting I didn't spend too long at it, even though I was young and fit, and yes, both beagles enjoyed themselves socialising, while DH reckoned they'd turned his hair grey (probably true, but there are just too many barely believable incidents to note here). Looking back, it does seem that children and dogs had much more freedom to explore the neighbourhood, particularly when together.
Another beautiful day with a perfect evening for a barbecue.

Upwardandonward · 30/07/2011 22:22

I hope these intrusive thoughts disappear.

Just came to wish everyone a good evening :)

cityhobgoblin · 30/07/2011 22:55

Evening everyone , especially upwardandonward . Sorry to hear you're having some intrusive thoughts - is that right ? I often get the wrong end of the stick Blush Do you feel they're part of an underlying problem "breaking through" as you're tired , perhaps, or for some other reason too? Are you concerned , or just wanting to chat / distract yourself a bit ? ( Not asking for answers , just hope we can help )
Am fine here but been missing posting due to drowning in bustling activities again ... should be better in a c ouple of weeks
.
I was guffawing exceedingly loudly at at your tales of cat and beagles shodatin , and very muchhope to revisit this entertaining subject . Agree with TIANC about impressive work ethic of catering / hospitality ... my Dad worked in hotels and it's a life rather than a job . Actually animals figured in his working life - a previously undiscovered species of crocodile Grin , many exotic birds and , in UK , a faithful collie who kept him company .

Thank you so much for your kind wishes TIANC , & am managing better than usual - probably because I've let most obligations fall by the wayside for about 2 months , but needs must . Hope you're having a good weekend after determined toil of the week .Thank you so much for rescuing cyber dragonfly < phew >
Loved your recap for upwardandonward , shodatin , and hope you've been doing your weekend socialising .

Will be great when you've got broadband , upwardandonward . Glad you got into town for & your tablecloth & coasters .

shodatin · 30/07/2011 23:21

Hello again upward, sorry you're getting intrusive thoughts but you were rather ill and it will take time for a full recovery, so please try not to worry. Is there anything you can do to be totally involved so the thoughts just can;t get in? Do you play any instrument, or paint or anything similar needing full concentration? When this happens to me, I know it's time for a change. The professionals have no doubt much experience of this problem - is there anyone you can ask about this?
Hello again to hob too, glad you can still find time to post with all your important activities and hope you get time to relax this weekend. Have you ever suggested that your Dad should write down some of his experiences with people, birds and animals? (One sees it all in the hotel business too, and a sense of humour keeps it bearable).

Now I've finished the greetings it's about time to say the goodnights, so I hope we all sleep well and can banish any unwanted thoughts by thinking of something to look forward to in the near future, as drifting off to sleep.

ThisIsANiceCage · 31/07/2011 00:24

Greetings and goodnights here, too. Tho I may grab a cooling swig of shodatin's non-alcoholic champagne.

Upward so sorry today's been rough. Hope you get some sleep tonight, or at least some decent rest.

Tomorrow's another day - may it be a good one for us all.

shodatin · 31/07/2011 10:29

Another beautiful, sunny day here, and am looking forward to picking some flowers for the house again. The good thing about living alone is that no-one complains about having the flowers picked and brought indoors, which doubles the pleasure, as I see it. My mother-in-law used to ask for garden flowers if possible, rather than something exotic from the florist, so I started adding a few different ones to the borders - surprising how many people agreed.

Hope everyone has a good day, and that upward's stray thoughts are no longer bothersome.
And before I forget, I'll make some Brew for us all!

kizzie · 31/07/2011 13:31

Hi lovely ladies - just popping in to say hello. i had a lovely time with my sister thank you :). Unfortunately Im going through a bit of a blip but she is very understanding despite having no personal experience of it (which I really admire.)

upward - one thing i read about intrusive thoughts : Try and turn them into ridiculous cartoons in your mind, with really silly voices. and then keep telling yourself : 'Oh yes enough already you ridiculous cartoon'. And then then do some easy distraction - something like simple puzzles. Hope that makes sense x

Im going to have quite a strict week of trying to get things back on an even keel so if Im a bit quiet thats where I am.

For us all:
'Bravery isnt always a lions roar. Sometimes its just a little voice saying - I'll try again tomorrow'

x

cityhobgoblin · 31/07/2011 17:33

That's an excellent quotation kizzie , certainly helps me . Glad your sister was understanding & really hope you feel better this week . Love your advice to upward & am sure we'll all be trying it Smile Hope you've had some of shodatin's non - alcoholic champagne Wine

shodatin's level headed , unflustered advice last night struck the perfect note as usual & I hope upward is less bothered by such thoughts today .

Couldn't agree more about flowers from garden being much nicer than from the florist , shodatin ... I'm experimenting with growing some extra just for indoors - what have you been growing for cutting this year ?

Thank you TIANC and hope you're having a pleasant weekend . Hope RL garden is providing enjoyment.

What a lovely idea about my Dad's memories of bizarre hotel incidents , shodatin, thank you . He passed away many years ago now but I will write down some of his tales myself while I remember them - excellent idea ( btw you know my ideas - I look forward to him introducing me to all these people & animals in the next world Grin )

Hope your busiest day hasn't been too stressful , madmouse , & that you feel more rested this week .

shodatin · 31/07/2011 23:12

Thanks kizzie for your good advice about intrusive thoughts, I loved your quote about bravery too, and wish I could think of something helpful for you during this blip. All can think of is to remind you that you have friends here who care about you, and hope you feel better soon. (And same to upward and madmouse and everyone else who might be feeling down(

hob, I'm interested in what you've planted for cutting too. I have california poppies, calendula and lavender from last year and blue cornflowers with peachy-coloured spray carnations from lots of cuttings this year and have just germinated some silver-blue eryngium (sea holly) to flower next year. This is a really tiny garden, literally one-courgette size so no room for weeds. Adding the tomato plants, herbs and leeks, plus lettuce and rocket is absolutely it.

ThisIsANiceCage · 31/07/2011 23:24

Sorry, another quick Brew with you all after busy and exhausting - but productive - day.

Lots of interesting posts above, will try to catch up properly tomorrow. Wishing us all blessed sleep and a good tomorrow.

shodatin · 01/08/2011 00:07

Hello there TIANC*, hope you're not over-tired after the busy day and can stay awake until actually in bed. It has indeed been a beautiful day, and I join you in good wishes for restful sleep. 'Night all.

shodatin · 01/08/2011 16:11

Good afternoon to all - Hope everyone has had a good day and enjoyed the sun; we enjoyed having tea-break outdoors, even more as I learned we are due to have rain tomorrow. Collected two eating-size courgettes at last, first of the harvest, apart from the lettuce and herbs.
