shodatin how are you feeling today? Still purple, or in that attractive green and yellow phase? Poor you.

I think I've had lots of sympathy from hob that actually belongs to you, btw. hob, you're not the only one who gets confused catching up! Grin

How very sensible about switching shoes. Do you have some favourite ballerina shoes already?

Completely understand why it's depressing to get a call button, however useful. Sad It's never even occurred to me to get one, but can see when I reach a brittler age it's going to be essential. I've had spectacular falls even before I was ill. [klutz emoticon]

(Btw, in case this is useful, IME the safest way to fall is to curl up as soon as you realise you really have missed the step. Bouncing down the individual steps seems to do a lot less damage than instinctively stretching for that missing stair - and landing on a rigid leg after a long drop.)

ThisIsANiceCage · 22/07/2011 23:26

Blast, X-posted again. Sleep well, shodatin, and hope you wake tomorrow refreshed and not at all sore.

ThisIsANiceCage · 22/07/2011 23:33

Fascinated by hob's childhood and quasi-Parisian parents. Wow you come from interesting stock!

And your cat is clearly controlling you to acquire cyberslaves for her. Grin She sounds magnificent but I shall resist I shall resist .

Wonder if showmash is more of a cat person or a dog person? Or do they do nothing for you?

ThisIsANiceCage · 22/07/2011 23:36

snowmash, even (who's showmash?)

Bedtime here, I think!

Hope everybody's had a good day. Thinking of you all, madmouse, kizzie, butterpie and Pixie, if she ever reads here.

Sleep well all, here's to good days tomorrow.

cityhobgoblin · 23/07/2011 11:21

Monitor "on" button is broken so will try to work out how to keep it taped down - caqn't type properly

Lots on today , must bustle.. sorry not posted properly ... tragic news for Europe to wake up to Sad

Thinking of you , snowmash and hope you're gradually feeling better.

shodatin · 23/07/2011 13:08

Thanks *TIANC for the tip about falling, you're right. Years ago I was told to think of yoga while on my way down, ie relax for less damage, and I'd forgotten. The worst bit is around my knee, and not yet an interesting colour, but am sure it will heal in time.

I used to take phone into bathroom with me when first living alone, and I did once have to call for help (unlike a friend who spent the night in the bath, unable to get out, luckily the over-head heater was on). I'm actually too worried about waking up in hospital these days, but it would be sensible to see what the council have on offer.

Isotonic slippers used to be favourite indoor footwear, ballerina style stretchy fabric with thin leather sole, but not available locally so I have one almost worn-through pair (repaired yesterday with remains of DH's suede coat).
Something soft and fastened firmly would be safest, but it's difficult to do the necessary bending. I once asked around about indoor footwear, as only one of my friends used traditional slippers, and those were usually a present.

Back soon, and sorry for delay hob, weekends sometimes difficult.

kizzie · 23/07/2011 17:46

Hi all - just popping in to see how shodatin bruising is doing :-(

Must be such a tough decision re call buttons etc. But I wonder if you could maybe think of it giving you more independence rather than less. Because you could just carry on as normal - knowing that if you really did need someone they would be there. Im sure that probably makes no sense but hope you get the idea of what im trying to say Blush.

Upwardandonward · 23/07/2011 19:47

I've namechanged (used to be on this thread a lot, particularly in Jan/Feb). I only have Internet on my phone as I've moved houseb I'm trying to keep myself as well as I can, struggling some days as I'm not fully recovered.

I haven't read the whole thread, but lots of Brew and empathy, shodatin

I've been thinking of everyone - so much time seems to have disappeared.

shodatin · 23/07/2011 20:46

Hello again "upward", I think I know who you are and very pleased you're back to visit. hob and TIANC do still mention people who were regulars, and I just think of them now and then and wish we had news.

Thank you so much for the Brew and empathy - it does actually help at present as still feeling a bit shocked after unplanned and unaccustomed flight.

You're right kizzie, it would be sensible to have a button then who-ever turns up might be persuaded to make a Brew rather than call an ambulance.

shodatin · 23/07/2011 21:03

hob, am so sorry to be so late with a reply, but brain slows right down around bedtime and some days are just too busy. Problem is, I seem to have forgotten what I was planning to write, but I wish I could offer something useful about the "on" button as it must be a real nuisance.
Thank you for telling us about your exotic background - I guess you've struggled for a fair while with the weather and the food and the accents as well as the more sophisticated stuff like politics.
I remember being more interested in politics myself after living in the US, just because more people my age were more involved there, but admit I've lapsed into a typically English cynicism over the years, having voted for most of the parties for various reasons. ( DH and I used to regularly agree to stay home rather than cancel each other out on voting days)
Mrs.T was in charge while I was in France, so I just said as little as possible.

shodatin · 23/07/2011 23:42

Sorry folks, time to go again; back tomorrow. Goodnight all.

ThisIsANiceCage · 24/07/2011 00:15

Hello upwardandonward! Lovely to see you "again" and what a fabulous name.

Hope your new place is good and you're settling in well, bad days notwithstanding. I wonder if you have a RL garden there?

Completely understand what you mean by time disappearing. I'm still trying to catch up on about six missing years. It's faintly freaky when you think, "Oh, I can buy that at X shop" - and it's not just closed but demolished and a road built through. Shock Still, six years ain't much out of three score and ten, I suppose. Smile

cityhobgoblin · 24/07/2011 00:25

Great to see you and have an update , upwardandonward .
Very sorry for the disappeared time feeling , which TIANC so eloquently relates to.

Just got in after v long but good day and still can't type properly , so will have to just thank shodatin for brilliant reply and wish you all a lovely peaceful night .

ThisIsANiceCage · 24/07/2011 00:45

Sleep well shodatin. Sorry you're still so shaken up. Sad Hope the physical bumps are healing OK.

That's a terrifying story about your friend being stranded in the bath. Shock I'm sure you and Kizzie have hit the nail on the head, about it being worth having someone on emergency Brew response rather than ambulance, and helping life carry on as normal.

Good luck in finding new and comfy shoes, too, that aren't a nuisance to do up.

ThisIsANiceCage · 24/07/2011 00:54

Sorry for your computer woes, hob. How annoying for you! Glad you had a good day - hope you get a good and much earned rest.

Wishing everyone a good, healing night's rest. And for those who can't sleep, I think we're being visited in the cybergarden by a single nightingale, serenading us from the trees...

Upwardandonward · 24/07/2011 08:16

Good morning everyone! I hope it's as sunny in your vicinity as it is here. I only have communal grass but it looks ideal for a day in the garden.

Thanks for the empathy, although I'm sorry you had the experience.

I'm going to find a shady patch in the cybergarden.

ThisIsANiceCage · 24/07/2011 12:48

Sunshine here too! Fluffy white clouds as well!

cityhobgoblin · 24/07/2011 13:03

Hi upwardandonward , hope you've had a lovely bask in the shady corner this morning . I know basking is done in full sunlight usually but I do like that cheerful word .
Sorry if you find the communal garden a bit awkward and hope you're setling in to your new home OK.

Yes indeed TIANC , sorry for such extensive experience of feeling sidelined - not adquate word for it , sorry . Greatly admire your spirit for surving that ... I know you won't want us making a fuss about it when you were mentioning it - with humour -to empathise with upwardandonward.

Hope you can use Skype today , shodatin , and you feel a bit less shaken . I know my Mum once gave me a pair of the little shoes you can't find round your way so will ask her / see what I can find .

Sorry still can't post v easily much - a blessed relief for you all ! Long day yesterday ended with eldest niece's 21st birthday . She's had a grim time after losing her Dad a few years ago and has done brilliantly in finding healthy ways to cope - artwork and as much surfing as she can fit in Grin. Was very sweet seeing her and her friends on the dancefloor - reminded us of her 4th birthday "disco"

cityhobgoblin · 24/07/2011 13:05

oooh , thanks for Brew , TIANC - crossposted .Hope gorgeous weather continues in cybergarden and RL.

shodatin · 24/07/2011 13:45

Thank you so much for comfy chair with cushions, TIANC, much appreciated, and to hob and upwardandonward for sympathy/empathy at this time.
Skype and telephone are both back in working order, so have been able to be in touch again with family/friends - just some snail-mail required for people nervous about virus's being forwarded.

Good to hear about your niece's birthday, hob, and that she's made such excellent progress through bereavement; you must have been worried for her at times, having to cope while so young. My own niece suffered same thing a few years ago, and is now recovered enough to work abroad.

A miserable cloudy day here in RL, so am pleased to have cybergarden, particularly a nightingale, which I've only heard once.

Upwardandonward · 24/07/2011 22:09

I hope everyone has a good night with peaceful sleep

shodatin · 25/07/2011 00:00

Thanks upwardandonward, hope you have a peaceful night too, and that hob and TIANC managed a restful evening. Goodnight all.

ThisIsANiceCage · 25/07/2011 00:22

hob how wonderful you were able to be there for your niece's 21st! So sorry to hear about her loss tho - and your own loss. Rotten for you all. Surfing therapy sounds just the ticket! Grin

And yes of course, shodatin you and your sister and her family have all been through the same. Sad

Thank you for heroically posting despite your computer troubles, hob - the garden just wouldn't be the same without you! Should I touch wood before congratulating shodatin on being fully online again?

upward glad you have at least the use of an outdoor space, even if not your own private one. Hope today has been a goodish day, and your beautiful weather held up.

In fact, hope everyone had a good'un. Sleep well all.
