18 hour fast

Porridge with fruit, bran, chia and almonds
Aubergine parmigiana, roasted veg and bread

Decent walk but a bit wet!

I LOVE aubergine parmigiana

Fasted 18 hours and breaking with scrambled egg with spinach on toast for lunch. Will have a big salad with protein for dinner.

Healthier eating starts here, and little to no booze for a bit.

Day one of my cycle today so will weigh in next week after AF has gone to get a starting weight for 2025!

lechatnoir · 06/01/2025 14:55

👋hi all can I join?

I used to do 16:8 regularly but stopped a year or so back and keen to get back on it as it was the only way I kept my weight under control without feeling I was permanently on a diet! I'm currently 19 hours into what is meant to be a 36 hours fast but already not sure I'll make that far as I'm already struggling but will serve me well as a reset and getting back into the groove of regular fasting.

Are you all sticking with the 16:8 everyday or just a couple of times a week? I used to do it twice mid week (usually Sun & Tuesday evening until lunch the next day) with the odd extra one thrown in if I've overindulged but there wasn't much science or structure to it so interested to hear what works for you.

greengreyblue · 06/01/2025 16:08

Welcome @lechatnoir . I think most of us do daily and vary between a minimum of 16:8 and OMAD/24.
I do 18:6 as I have my lunch break at work at 12 and normally eat by 6 in the week( work in school) so we love the flexibility. Most of us have been going since June time, a few of us , incl me , are maintaining. I have lost 13/14 lbs since end of June by skipping breakfast completely. It has really been a game changer as I have more time to get ready for work and I’m not a morning person .
18 hrs today
lunch: green salad with hummus and nuts, a rice cake with peanut butter, an apple
dinner: will be something with chicken and potatoes. Lacking inspiration right now.

Hello @lechatnoir! I've only just started doing it again after Xmas as I have a holiday in Feb and want to lose a few lbs for that. I tend to do it for a bit and then don't, just now I've been fasting most days since Xmas but usually when I fast I let my hair down and indulge a bit more at the weekends with some evening TV snacks!

Today I did a 17.5 hour fast. Had fruit mid morning and then a chicken salad for lunch with some crisps. And a packet of Buttons on the drive home 😄

Spag Bol for dinner 😋

Cashew1 · 06/01/2025 18:00

Welcome @lechatnoir!

I do 18:6 every day, with a few 19:5s thrown in. Rarely omad for me or any longer.

L: cottage cheese crackers and overnight oats
D: veg chilli with rice, cheese, tortilla chips and greek yoghurt

Ilikeyoursleeves · 07/01/2025 13:46

18.5 hour fast today! And a big walk this morning. I've not weighed myself since New Years Day so will be interesting tomo to see if I've lost anything this week!

Lunch was chicken soup, toast and pate and cheese & biscuits (still have Xmas food!), grapes and some choc.

Cashew1 · 07/01/2025 16:28

Inadvertent 20 hour fast today!

Lunch: hummus and tomatoes on toast
Snack: small bowl of cereal with oat milk
Dinner will be tofu and broccoli with rice and curry sauce.

One hour run at the gym.

Got a leaving lunch at work tomorrow so perhaps an omad for me...tbc!

greengreyblue · 07/01/2025 18:45

18 hr fast
lunch: small amount of whole grain pasta twists with salad and leftover roasted pepper sauce, spinach and bit of feta. Apple
dinner: jacket potato with a griddled pork steak and roasted carrots, onions and broccoli.
A pear.

Ilikeyoursleeves · 07/01/2025 19:07

@greengreyblue your food is far healthier than mine! My dinner was macaroni cheese, chips and beans followed by Xmas chocolate 😳🙈 Will have a salad tomo!

greengreyblue · 07/01/2025 20:18

@Ilikeyoursleeves I wouldn’t lose weight if I was eating extras.

17 hours today but was tough coming in straight after a 24 hour fast yesterday. Lunch scrambled egg with sautéed mushrooms, onions and spinach, mid afternoon snack miso soup and dinner beef in black bean sauce, small portion of rice and broccoli. Ended up eating quite late and will need to eat between meetings tomorow so only likely to manage 15 hours but still, feels good to get out of the breakfast habit and as long as I'm busy & don't boredom/habit eat, I can manage just fine.

Rollergirl11 · 07/01/2025 21:11

17 hour fast for me.

lunch: hummus, carrots and wholemeal pita bread. Banana.
Snack: small bowl of dried fruit and nuts
Dinner: jacket potato with cheese & bacon

Ended up eating a little later though as had to drop DS to work and then DD wanted a lift to the pub to catch up with a friend before she heads back to uni. The only good thing about her going back will be less washing to be done and less taxi-ing around for me!

Ilikeyoursleeves · 08/01/2025 10:24

I love IF!

Weighed myself this morning and have lost 2lb since the new year! And that's with eating Xmas cheese, pate and chocs In my eating window. It doesn't feel like being on a diet at all 😊 My clothes also feel better, I have a jacket that's always felt quite tight on me and it's now fitting just right.

Just broke my fast at 16 hours with a banana and a pear, I'm at work and don't want everyone to hear my stomach rumble this morning!

How's everyone doing?

lechatnoir · 08/01/2025 14:47

Managed to eek out to 16 hours in the end and had a big bowl of really delicious vegetable and bean soup with grated parmesan. Dinner will be creamy garlic chicken (made with soft cheese rather than cream) with mash & greens plus have quite a bit of fruit that needs eating so will snack on that.

What are your thoughts on having a bit of milk in coffee during a fast - do you think it will make much difference or completely ruin the impact of a fast? It's the one thing I'm still struggling without and not that keen on black coffee.

When I started I had a splash of milk in my tea but now just have black coffee or green tea. It’s not a major problem but I went through a plateau phase so decided to go hardcore and stuck with it.

@lechatnoir I have a splash of milk in my tea in the morning and allow myself that, no idea if it makes any difference but I don't like tea without milk and I need my morning cuppa! I've started drinking herbal tea at night with no milk though which is fine

greengreyblue · 08/01/2025 17:06

18 hr fast

Personally I have milk in coffee during fasting window and pretty much always have done. I have lost a decent amount of weight since I started fasting in June - but I think I'm back up a bit because of Christmas.

GameOfJones · 09/01/2025 12:53

Hello everyone, I dropped off the thread a bit as I got disheartened by Christmas weight gain. But I'm feeling ready to get back to it! I will lose the weight, and I'm still a stone lighter than I was this time last year!

Yesterday was a 22 hour fast and OMAD of poached eggs and spinach on toast, grapes and then a bit of the Christmas chocolate for dessert.

I'm currently at 18 hours fasting now and just debating what to have for lunch.

Ilikeyoursleeves · 09/01/2025 13:00

Hello @GameOfJones!

I've just done an 18.5 hour fast and have had a very healthy lunch of hummus, cucumber and carrots, and a homemade smoothie (grapes, banana, blueberries, strawberries and orange juice). 7 a day met by 1pm!

Rollergirl11 · 09/01/2025 18:12

I also have milk in my one and only coffee of the day that I have at 7am. I even have a small teaspoon of agave nectar in it. It hasn’t impacted on my weight loss and I have lost 1 stone 3 lbs since the beginning of August.

17 hour fast. Lunch was chicken salad sandwich and a banana. About to have homemade chicken Kiev with a small portion of frites and petis poi’s.

Driving DD back to Exeter tomorrow (3 hour drive) after work and we are going straight out for dinner so she can go out with her flatmates afterwards. Will mean my window is a little extended but oh well.

greengreyblue · 09/01/2025 19:47

18 hr fast
lunch: butter bean, mackerel and salad, an apple
snack: banana and nuts after work
dinner: tomato and ricotta pasta bake, some frozen blueberries and raspberries warmed through.

Just did a 15 min kettlebell workout with Caroline Girvan on YouTube. Loved it.
