Day 1 of this adventure. I’ve got a headache but will soon be going to bed.
My eating window today was 8am-4pm. I’ve got so much to shift & hope I can keep this up. Anyone else want to join?

Same as @GameOfJones . Now don’t have splash of milk to get the most out of the fast. I love healthy food 95% of the time but eating 12pm-7pm sometimes 6pm means there only so much of it I can eat! It has retrained my portion control and helped me feel when I actually need to eat and when it’s just habit Good luck.

chatw0o0p · 05/08/2024 11:57

thanks @GameOfJones and @greengreyblue. I try to meal plan at least 5-6 days a week, otherwise it all falls into a heap and I end up having eggs on toast (nothing wrong with that!). Will figure out my window first, and then see how it goes with what I want to eat, and when. Mostly I want to cut out sweets/snacking, which isn't really a time window issue 🙄

greengreyblue · 05/08/2024 15:11

Eggs and toast is great. Don’t overthink it. Today I went to 1pm before eating and did so much this morning.
Lunch: leftover lean pork skewer with left over roasted aubergine, peppers and onions, 1/4 of a brown pitta. Apple, pear.
Dinner: chickpea and spinach curry.

@goingdownfighting thanks for the recommendation about magenesium foot spray, I've just ordered some. I'm on Tamoxifen and have a lot of hot flushes so struggle with sleep.

goingdownfighting · 05/08/2024 22:51

I hope it works for you. Just check with your nurse or gp or look up whether it's ok to take.

Managed a 20 hour fast and felt pretty good for it. Does anyone else feel like it improves your concentration? After eating I’m so sluggish.

Had a protein bagel for lunch with ham, spinach and Philadelphia cheese. Had some grapes then an apple and peanut butter snack. Had a baked sweet potato with cheese, butter and tuna mayo for dinner.

My downfall is picking at the kids dinner! I didn’t eat much - a bit of sausage and a mouthful of baked beans - but it adds up. It’s so hard to avoid as it’s halfway between lunch and dinner so I’m hungry!

greengreyblue · 06/08/2024 21:30

Yes @Queencam im definitely sharper. I listened to a 2 hr podcast this morning from Rangan Chatterjee with Dr Jason Fung- Why intermittent Fasting works. I iust had it on while I did Jobs about the house and dog walk I thoroughly recommend it, so informative. He mentioned how sharp and wired a hungry lion is as opposed to one that’s sluggish and sleepy after eating a large meal. He talked about fasting being no different to not shopping for food when your fridge is full! Our bodies hold thousands of calories of energy stored as fat so if we don’t eat our bodies just use the stores and our insulin stays low. I know this is obvious but his explanation was clear and simple.
Another interesting tip from Dr Fung- eating protein and fat first from your meal reduces insulin spike which means you store less fat. Amazing!! 🤩
18 hr fast
lunch: salad with avocado, smoked mackerel , a few tbsp of wild grains, Apple
Dinner: turkey steak, broccoli with butter bean mash. Pear.

Enviable · 06/08/2024 23:05

Hi everyone,

I'm starting this tomorrow with an eating window from 12pm-7pm. I've been gaining weight over the past couple of years because I'm miserable and just don't want it to get completely out of control and irreversible, so I'm nipping it in the bud.

Usually a breakfast person and don't like to take my medication on an empty stomach so I'm going to try moving that to lunchtime and hopefully I won't suddenly get any side effects.

I do well with clear rules so hopefully it'll suit me without being unhealthy like in the past when I've starved myself and binged. I still intend to enjoy food and won't be weighing myself at all because that could send me spiralling. I'm hoping to notice my clothes feeling less tight and uncomfortable, which will be great.

Thanks for letting me tag along!

GameOfJones · 07/08/2024 07:54

Welcome @Enviable . I also moved taking my medication from the morning to just before lunch or dinner. I didn't get any side effects other than I found it harder to remember as it was such an ingrained morning habit. But I think taking it with a meal is the way to go.

I'm celebrating today as I finally have a new number at the start of my weight (although a long way to go still.) I'm down from 15st 1lb to 13st 13lbs

Wow, that's great - well done! It's been a long time since I've lost any substantial weight 😅

greengreyblue · 07/08/2024 08:47

Welcome @Enviable and I think you’ll like this if you like clear rules- we said upthread we’re finding it easier to fast than moderate and calorie count. It’s healthy and as Dr fung’s research shows, if you’re not eating for periods, your body gets what it needs from your stores.
@GameOfJones thats an amazing loss, you must feel so proud of yourself. It’s a way of life and that makes it easier somehow. Keep on keeping on.

I will give that a listen! Thanks for the recommendation.

Your meals are sooooooooooooooo healthy!

Thanks everyone. I'm flagging more than I expected to this morning with no breakfast, but will eat lunch in around 45 minutes so I really need to try and hang on! What you said about your body getting what it needs from its stores has helped to motivate me to tolerate the hunger, so thank you for that.

I think I might end up being more productive without the distraction of food in the morning. Has anyone else found that they get more done?

GameOfJones · 07/08/2024 11:37

Thank you for the good wishes everyone, I do feel proud but also annoyed with myself that I let myself get so heavy in the first place and have left myself with a lot of weight to lose. I'm celebrating each milestone though.

@Enviable I drink a black coffee or have a black tea if I'm really hungry when I'm fasting (Clipper white tea bags in a blue box are the only ones I can stomach without milk). I have found the hunger pangs have gone away a lot now I'm used to fasting. So hang on in there. E.g I'm hungry now as I've just hit 18.5 hours of fasting but in a background sort of way rather than it being unpleasant. I will eat in half an hour or so and focus on that feeling of hunger meaning that I'm really looking forward to lunch.

I have definitely found my mornings are much simpler now I don't eat breakfast. I get up, have a black coffee, get ready and go.

GameOfJones · 07/08/2024 11:40

This is the tea that I mean. I can drink it with no milk very easily as it's a bit more delicate than normal tea (but made from the same tea plant.)

Just broke my fast with 2 eggs on toast 😉. Have already done 9000 steps meeting a friend for a dog walk. I’m not at work so it’s different for me at the mo but usually at work and busy so do t think of the hunger after I’ve left the house- it’s liberating as I’m not a morning person so I have more time.

greengreyblue · 07/08/2024 13:29

@Enviable when you feel a pang have a big glass of water. You need to drink more when fasting.

Yes I think I have more focus when I'm fasting.

If I'm starving and want to wait a bit longer then I try and do a task first before eating. Today instead of making lunch right away I went to post a parcel and pop to the shops first. Added a good 40 mins onto the fast.

Queencam · 07/08/2024 14:06

I've got a terrible headache today that can't seem to shift. Could be fasting related but could also be hormone shift - post ovulation. Am absolutely terrible at drinking enough too...

Definitely focus on drinking water and staying hydrated. I had an awful headache on and off for the first week or so but water really does help.

Can I join in!
I am doing the 800fast. I am fasting from. 8pm to 12pm
Day five 3bls down yesterday, I will weigh myself Saturday morning next.
Today was a bit tough and I struggled with my 30 mins exercise program (but it is Caroline Girvan and did involve renegade rows and some thrusts).
Will go for a walk after work.

But feeling positive.

Ah yes I love this tea but I drank too much green tea in my youth and now have a bit of an intolerance, so I only let myself have white or green tea as a treat! 😂

I know the feeling of being frustrated with yourself for getting to this point, but I think you need to have sympathy for yourself and realise that you probably ate for a reason. I know that overeating is what helps me survive, sometimes, because I find life hard to cope with. It's not your fault you needed the extra comfort at the time.

Welcome, although I'm new too so don't feel qualified to welcome you yet, haha. Best of luck with your fasting. :)
