Day 1 of this adventure. I’ve got a headache but will soon be going to bed.
My eating window today was 8am-4pm. I’ve got so much to shift & hope I can keep this up. Anyone else want to join?

Just wanted to add that what I’m liking about this way of eating is that this week I’ve eaten a burger(turkey)in a big white bun, cheesy pasta , noodles and avocado, smoked mackerel and nuts which are all tasty and nutritious (but sometimes avoided on diets )so I don’t feel like I’m missing out.

Agree! I think it's so much easier mentally because you can still eat whatever you want in theory, you just need to wait a bit.

goingdownfighting · 13/09/2024 13:43

@Enviable and @greengreyblue

That's the best thing about it. I skip breakfast and eat sensibly and then I'm done. It's simple and fits into my lifestyle without needing constant planning, shopping overthinking etc.

Yes, it's definitely taught me it is ok to feel hungry and nothing bad will happen if I am a bit hungry before a meal. I think I'd forgotten what being hungry actually felt like because I never got to that point. I definitely think it makes me appreciate my meals more.

I can't remember whether it was this thread or another thread where someone referenced "learning to sit with their hunger for a while" but it really resonated with me. I have learned far better how to sit with my own hunger and if my stomach rumbles think "that's fine, I'm really going to enjoy my lunch in a couple of hours" rather than "I must eat now."

Absolutely this.

I used to struggle with panic and anxiety years ago and couldn’t eat I was so anxious much of the time. I realised later on that I’d come to associate that empty hungry feeling with anxiety - and almost be afraid of it if that makes sense. There was an urgency to eat something to stave off panic.

Fasting has definitely helped me to reset that relationship with food and appetite. It’s fine to feel hungry!

Morning all. Agree with all of those points.
Weigh day: 😀🎉
SW 10st 6
CW 9st 13
TW 9st 10 and maybe 9st 7 eventually
So 1.2lb off this week. I have been nearly this weight over a month ago then went up and now down again .It seems I can’t waiver from the plan too much at weekends and holidays or I undo all my work. Maybe it’s menopause but if I ate like I am now in my 30s / 40s I’d have lost lots more. I’m quite happy as I’m doing half the steps now I’m back at work and still losing. All good. Happy Friday!

Wahoo! Knew you’d see a loss! Well done.

greengreyblue · 13/09/2024 23:53

Ah thanks. Been out tonight and had a few G&Ts as we went to see Texas. But ate at 12 and 4.30 so only the drinks outside of window.
lunch: salad with bulgur wheat and feta, apple
dinner: small baked potato and soft cheese with leftover chicken and salad.

greengreyblue · 14/09/2024 10:14

Woke up and stomach felt particularly flat so chanced another weigh and and I am lower today than yesterday with another half a kg off! So I’m 62.5kg! Whoop whoop! Not bad after a night out but did lots of walking / running for train last night and weighed after the loo……🥴
I am very hungry as ate so early yesterday and obs had a few drinks but am holding out until 12.

Congrats!

Since giving my body a break from food between 6pm-ish and 10am-ish (usually not quite as long as that!) and then only having a small breakfast and a relatively small lunch by my standards, I'm sure my blood sugar has been much more stable because cravings are nowhere near as intense as they used to be. It's really nice to be able to have a reasonable amount of delicious food and then not feel desperate to eat again soon afterwards.

Great progress. So hard to hold out after a boozy night!

I’ve just logged the start of a fast - ate at 5pm with the kids.

Dread to think what the scales say but will check next week after my period.

Octopus45 · 15/09/2024 18:49

Sounds as if everyone is doing well. I'm really hungry today for some reason so keep eating breadsticks. Was 8st12 this morning, 4 pounds to go until I hit my target

greengreyblue · 15/09/2024 18:59

Amazing @Octopus45 . What height are you? I’ve been 8st 13 after doing 5:2 years ago. I’m 5ft 5 .
Did an 18 hr fast today.
lunch: small baked potato with hummus and salad, apple
dinner: chicken tarragon pie made with homemade pastry and low fat crème fraiche , a few small potatoes and veg. Had two glasses of white wine. Walked lots .

Octopus45 · 15/09/2024 19:33

Thanks @greengreyblue I'm about 5ft5 as well, or maybe 5ft4. Your fast today sounds great.

greengreyblue · 15/09/2024 21:48

That’s quite a low bmi (20) at your height. Do you mind me asking why that’s your target? I’m aiming for about 22 as that’s halfway between 18 and 25.
I think at that weight I will look quite thin. It’s quite telling that we have got so used to bigger bodies as being normal.

GameOfJones · 16/09/2024 07:43

I didn't make the best food choices over the weekend. Avocado toast for lunch at 1pm and then a steak and kidney pie, chips and a pint of cider out for dinner at a pub at 6pm. It was delicious though and I kept to my fasting window.

I'm planning a vegetable soup for today's dinner as I have potatoes, Jerusalem artichokes and a pumpkin all harvested from the garden so I think I'll oven roast them all with some onions or leek and blitz up with stock. A bit of a random combination but it'll get some vegetables into us! I've hurt my back digging in the garden so I'm going to go on a walk for my exercise and hope that a bit of gentle movement helps.

Sounds like a delicious soup!

I find walking almost always helps my back pain, although usually need to stretch afterwards and use my massage gun to stop the muscles getting even tighter. Hope your back recovers quickly

Thank you! I think I need a massage gun.

I ended up walking a bit further than planned as I was really getting into the podcast I was listening to and did 4 miles so that's positive!

I'm quite small boned so dont carry weight very well.I used to be 8st in my30s,but know that would be too low now. It might be that I dont make 8st8,cause I haven't been that weight since I was 41, will have to see how it goes.

@GameOfJones your soup sounds delicious.

Queencam · 16/09/2024 15:59

Bit of a fasting fail here - managed 15 hours. Cracked making the kids peanut butter banana porridge this morning. It was delicious! But then I am day one of my period so usually go easy this time of the month.

Will try again and aim for 8pm-12pm fast. And maybe give the kids Cheerios 😆

greengreyblue · 16/09/2024 16:04

lol @Queencam 😂
Thanks @Octopus45 I think I’ll be grand at 9st 7. Before kids I was 9st-9st 4 at 5ft 5.
18 hr fast
lunch- smoked mackerel and salad, apple
dinner- lean pork skewers with pita and roasted veg.

Octopus45 · 16/09/2024 19:10

I've been really hungry today although I've stuck to my window. Definitely finding it a bit harder now the Summer is over.

goingdownfighting · 16/09/2024 20:05

Agree @Octopus45 any warm high protein highly nutritious lunch ideas are very much welcome.

Plus I'm wfh this week so need to put some exercise in.

Managed a clean fast today until 1pm which was great but it's more damage limitation. I'm hovering around my pre summer holiday weight but need to break through it consistently.

I've stopped using my tracker so I might get back on that.

greengreyblue · 17/09/2024 07:14

How about beans on toast? Or a butter bean ragu? Chickpea and spinach in a curry style? Used to make that a lot last year to take to work.

greengreyblue · 17/09/2024 16:58

18 hr fast
lunch: salad with a smoked mackerel fillet, apple
dinner: just making a tomatoey fish stew with brown rice.

Queencam · 17/09/2024 19:28

I’m all about the beans at the mo. Seems to be an Instagram trend too. There are some good recipes on the Bold Bean Co website.

Did a 17 hour fast then ate a ham, soft cheese, avocado tomato wrap. Apple and peanut butter snack. Bit of cheese and more apple snack later. Sooooooooooooooooo hungry. DH making some cod and butter beans dish for dinner.

goingdownfighting · 17/09/2024 20:25

thanks for the suggestions @greengreyblue and @Queencam.

I wish I liked beans more than I do but yes a good shout. Plus I'm trying to eat less meat.

Well done on the fasting everyone.

I managed today but I'm hungry too.

GameOfJones · 17/09/2024 20:33

20 hour fast today.

Lunch of fruit and fibre cereal
Snack of yoghurt and some nuts
Dinner was oven baked polenta with ratatouille.
