@ChillinwiththeVillains you were on a roll this weekend! Well done you!

I am afraid I didn't spend my Sunday batch cooking soup 🙈 But I wish I had!

I am steadily losing a little bit every day or couple of days. But it feels like each pound lost is hard fought for. When I last did Fast 800 the spring before lockdown started (lockdown number 1 made a huge dent in that effort and lockdown 2 finished it off) I had a hugggge whoosh of weight loss in the first few weeks. That just simply hasn't happened this time 😔

But slow and steady is better than nothing.

I made a salad for lunch with some fried tinned nut roast I vividly remember loving as a child in the 1980s. I had a real moment of lovely memories when I found it in a health food shop the other day. The reality was rather insipid, but I'm glad I tried it. I now have the rest of the tin in the fridge though to eat 🙄

For dinner, I finally made the Fast 800 fish stew delayed from the other day. I ended up buying whole new prawns as I daren't then risk the ones I defrosted overnight on Saturday.

Tomorrow, I'll do the cheesy meatballs or just a bolognaise sauce with the mince I have.

xraydelta · 21/03/2022 20:45

@Chunkymonkey123 yup. I am revisiting 2020 too.

I also find planning the week so helpful, though I move things around then if I need to.

I don't know a about the keto cookbook. I am also using the original and then just googling for more recipes.

I don't really like chicken thighs though. Or pork. So that's a bit limiting. I eat both of them with carbs, but somehow I find them unappealing without 🤷🏻‍♀️

ChillinwiththeVillains · 22/03/2022 10:13

@xraydelta . Yes I think planning the week is probably a really good idea. I am planning a day at a time but need to make sure I don’t end up with any mental blanks as that is when I am tempted to grab carbs.
STS this morning but when I was chatting to my friend yesterday she reminded me that she had lost in fits and starts when she did FAST800.
I think I know which nut roast you mean, is it provamel or something? I had a veggie 80s childhood and there wasn’t much gourmet delight in it. And well done on steady weight loss, it does take more willpower if you are plodding on rather than losing exciting amounts quickly. But I figure we’ll all be happy with ourselves this summer if wr stick to it however slow it goes.

xraydelta · 22/03/2022 20:28

Wow @ChillinwiththeVillains I feel we need some sort of special hand shake or secret code word or something. There were so few veggie children in the 80s that we were most definitely known as "weird".

That's exactly the nut roast. I was surprised they still made it. I just wish the taste had reflected the warm familiarity of memory.

I ate a lot of carbs as a child, with very little protein: I had a salad and shared a boiled egg every lunchtime at school with the Muslim kid who didn't eat pork 😁 Literally half a boiled egg every lunch time 🙄 That's what the dinner ladies thought a balanced meal was.

it's so much easier for vegetarians now. But I started eating fish and then meat a while ago and I actually feel much healthier for it.

I am finding it a struggle on an evening at the moment. I am just not feeling hungry by then. I am going to switch meals around and have something a bit more substantial at lunch I think when I am actually hungry.

Slow and steady is just so boring 😁 But yes, I will concentrate on how I'm going to feel in the summer.

ChillinwiththeVillains · 22/03/2022 20:45

Ha! I am resolutely not a vegetarian any more and my kids are total carnivores. I keep thinking about cutting back on meat for environment and cost as I buy poncey organic stuff but cannot face provamel and lentils. Tbf kids tried Sainsburys nut roast recently and really liked it and will eat falafel, tofu or dhal but that’s about it. And if they won’t eat pulses then, like you say it is carbtastic or massively processed fake food.
I had annoying evening as had to take youngest to tutor (long drive) and usually leave slow cooker on but had left explicit instructions to DH to make pasta, meatballs and courgetti. He failed to make the courgetti. So I ate meatballs and green beans. His excuse was that I don’t eat evening meals. I didn’t until covid to be honest, I was always 16:8 and stopped eating after lunch but Covid left me wanting evening food so it’s been a month of us all sitting down and eating and me having a plate and not just a cup of herbal tea. Have explained he should not try to think but just follow orders. Easier life, happier wife (auto correct made me “wide” which feels accurate but still a bit insulting).
I do agree with you that more food earlier is nicer though.

xraydelta · 22/03/2022 21:25

Your DH should definitely not try and think @ChillinwiththeVillains 😁

That's exactly the meal I had planned this evening, along with courgetti too. I haven't made it, and ironically did just have a cup of herbal tea instead (sorry), so will push the meatballs to tomorrow now.

I am buying a LOT of fish at the moment, and then some organic meat. I need to add chicken breasts in next week for some variety.

ChillinwiththeVillains · 22/03/2022 21:29

Yes tomorrow I am doing that spinach, white fish and tomato sauce bake as husband away for three days. And dog walker just diagnosed with Covid so need to have as little as possible to think about. And probably a prawn stir fry I think. As can just give kids rice or noodles.
Well done you on herbal tea fasting evening.

xraydelta · 22/03/2022 23:18

This is the fish stew I made last night.

www.copymethat.com/r/xu8HaOj0z/fast-800-simple-fish-stew-recipe-you-mag/

I am adapting recipes to make them more flavoursome though, by adding more flavour or just cooking longer.

ChillinwiththeVillains · 23/03/2022 11:17

That looks like a good recipe and fennel is an an excellent low calorie shout. I ordered pre prepped swede as another bulking agent but have frozen it as not stew weather atm. Tho’ think I will do beef ribs tonight as easy long slow cook and can bake apples and do the fish all together so I can justify having the oven on again. I might roast up some tofu too (exciting) as a protein sprinkle.

xraydelta · 23/03/2022 22:21

Stop Press

I finally made the cheesy meatballs.

👏🏻

I ate one portion, froze two and put the fourth in the fridge for my long covid teen to pick at tomorrow, push around her plate and then (probably) put in the bin 🙄

I added Parmesan and an egg to make the meatballs and put more mozzarella on top, so it was higher in carbs and calories, but I had a very light second meal to even it out and make sure I was below 800 and low carb.

I am going to do another 48 hour fast now, and so my next planned meal is on Friday in the early evening. But if I'm struggling at work tomorrow, I'll scrap that idea. I have bouillon at work to have at lunchtime.

xraydelta · 23/03/2022 22:23

@ChillinwiththeVillains the fennel came in a double pack so I need to find another recipe for the other one next week...

ChillinwiththeVillains · 24/03/2022 10:39

@xraydelta the last three of these fennel recipes look adaptable? Teen off school and is eating non stop toast to promote recovery. I am drinking green tea. It may shift to bouillon soon (exciting).

xraydelta · 24/03/2022 21:22

Ooooh, the fennel chicken looks great. I think that's going to be a winner for next week. Thank you @ChillinwiththeVillains

How's everyone's/anyone's day been? After a day sitting at my desk, I dragged a friend for a walk to get my steps up.

And I am over half way on my 48 hour fast (mostly a water fast but with one cup of bouillon). I'll break it tomorrow after work, maybe with another portion of the cheesy meatballs as they failed to excite my teen so it's still in the fridge 😁

MayaWasSackedForGCBeliefs · 24/03/2022 21:36

I'm in week 4 and I've totally lost any hunger. I'm eating of course but I'm not that bothered about food. I don't think this is even happened in my life before as my arse can testify. I'm using the shakes a bit now as I've been really busy.

Had delicious chicken Stirfry tonight with chilli and lots of vegetables. Portion packed away for lunch tomorrow.

ChillinwiththeVillains · 25/03/2022 05:46

@MayaWasSackedForGCBeliefs (I like your username), I love the idea of losing hunger. I remember last time I was at that point and it just made it so much easier. Not so true here yet but I had a long walk yesterday and realised I had missed lunch and it wasn’t a big deal which is nice. About to get up and weigh myself. Hoping for a loss- also generous of arse atm and bored of it.

Chunkymonkey123 · 25/03/2022 18:23

@MayaWasSackedForGCBeliefs that’s good about the hunger. I’m day 5 and I’m starving!! My stomach was so loud today. I’ve also eaten 1000 cals which is disappointing but I had a busy day at work so needed breakfast.
I did the cheats sausage casserole tonight from the 800 cookbook, it was lovely!

Chunkymonkey123 · 25/03/2022 18:24

@xraydelta you are doing so well with the fast!! I’m not sure I could ever do that. Do you find it has much effect on your weight loss?

xraydelta · 25/03/2022 19:48

@Chunkymonkey123 yes, I do think it makes a difference. It always leads to a little extra drop.

But I wouldn't personally recommend it in the first 8 weeks or if you haven't done fasting before.

It works for me at the moment though, but if I struggle at work, I'll absolutely re-think.

My longest ever was three days. I feel happiest with 48 hours though.

It's good to make use of not feeling hungry 😆

xraydelta · 25/03/2022 19:49

PS @Chunkymonkey123 the not feeling hungry will come. Power through and the low carbs will mean your hunger goes.

ChillinwiththeVillains · 26/03/2022 10:24

Hope everyone has good weekends planned. I am feeling annoyed as scales haven’t shifted in a week. Which is probably to be expected but also very frustrating. I do need to weigh every day, only way I stay focused. And I do have faith that they will shift in the end. But I have been eating well for 10 days now so feel like my 12kg should have graciously disappeared and left me looking slinky and smug. But no, off to buy some size 14 jeans as all my other fat jeans just look wrong. May as well be a grumpy tubby person in modish clothes.

ChillinwiththeVillains · 26/03/2022 11:01

actually a 16 in H&M which has not perked up my mood but I am pleased with fit of jeans at least. I feel like I have been waiting a long time for wide fit pure cotton jeans and at last my time has come. So now I need to lose weight so I can buy nice smaller jeans to stick up before low waists or skinnies come back.

Chunkymonkey123 · 26/03/2022 18:09

@ChillinwiththeVillains H&M have ridiculous sizing, I’m always at least a size bigger in there!
I’ve eaten 1050 today which is disappointing. Only 34 carbs though, do you think this is ok? The large glass of white wine put me 200 over but I really wanted it!
Did the speedy pizza for dinner which was ok, I would’ve eaten 4x that amount last weekend!!

ChillinwiththeVillains · 26/03/2022 18:49

@Chunkymonkey123 I think the lower the carbs the better and that’s really good. It’s a thumbs up from me. I think I will be lower today than through the week as I find going out and about stops me eating as much. So obvs still not manafing just mindful eating. But it’s all a journey, right. I have wine envy. Am off the alcohol until I get to 65kg. Some way yet to go….

ChillinwiththeVillains · 27/03/2022 21:36

I hope that you all had a very good day. I had a lovely walk with motherless/childless friend first thing with a lot of deep talking in between dog ball throwing.
Kids had activities as usual today involving much ferrying around so I saw my mum yesterday in the beautiful sunshine and DH will see his tomorrow. We did manage roast lamb with loads of vegetables for lunch but I was so tired that I had a two hour siesta. Which I am now regretting as I need to trick myself into going to bed soon. My annoying scales plateau finally shifted but tbh it will be surprising if I have lost 0.5kg over this week after losing 2kg in first week. Holding out for a whoosh but not that hopeful. Hey ho, I am proud of myself for logging into MFP for two weeks and faithfully noting all that I eat.
I failed to do any batch cooking (see siesta) and my husband is back from work trip and is eating all my pre prepared stuff whilsr NEVER doing the boring prep himself. He prides himself on using up “leftovers” whereas I have tried to explain strict regime of one meal a day to create more leftovers. Otherwise nice empty fridge means often bad choices for breakfast and lunch. This week I will have eggs with left over tomato and spinach sauce for breakfast and then back on soup of doom (from freezer where I put it after getting v bored of it). And roast chicken or slow cooker beef stew (with onions and swede for bulk) for supper (and leftovers…). We have a tonne of veg and a Waitrose order coming soon so am stocking up on frozen cubed celeriac and any other pre prepped fancy veg that Sainsburys doesn’t sell cheaper.
Here’s to a really positive week for all of us.

xraydelta · 28/03/2022 16:00

I have had my first "treat"/cheat with two spoons of butterbeer ice cream 🍨 😞🙈

Guess where I've been 😁

But other that that, I am still just steadily going. And I have not had any alcohol for three weeks 🤪

I am planning another 48 hour fast Wednesday to Friday dinner time.
