Just jumping in to wish @thenewaveragebear1983 a much earned lovely break. You have inspired so many over the years. Always welcoming to newbies and so generous with your knowledge. Now you take the time for you. I have fallen off the wagon completely but I’ll take this as my cue to help keep the thread goIng. ❤️

PhoenixMama · 19/07/2020 13:31

Hi everyone! @thenewaveragebear1983 I totally get where you're coming from and I hope you enjoy your break! You've been a huge inspiration and support I hope you really know that, no as in we're an obligation but in that you are bloody lovely!

I had some prosecco last night (which made me unable to sleep so re-thinking that!) and scale up by 1lb but that's just water weight.

My dd is driving me insane right now and I'm really feeling the stress - tons of chatback, attitude and stomping around. We're really feeling the being stuck together since March. Partly we need to get out more but also I'm having to work so much right now she's feeling neglected.

We're off on hols in just under 2 weeks so trying to keep carbs really low - dinner at friends tonight so bit worried about not having control but can get back on track tomorrow. I'm committing to checking in everyday too as that will help me stay focussed!

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend!

"have made the tough transition to black (or nearly black) coffee"

@houseRefurb First started doing TRE in 2009 (?) or so, based on ideas espoused at leangains.com website. Had never really drunk black coffee until then; like you, found transition tough. Got there in the end, now have one black coffee instead of breakfast every morning. Find it very palatable and puts me on until lunch, but do drink stronger, richer blend than I used to. Still very occasionally take milk or cream with coffee, but never in the morning.

Madhatterhouse · 19/07/2020 16:16

Hi all, new here!

I’m almost seven weeks in, have stuck to it pretty religiously (generally end up somewhere between 750-850kcals each day) and have lost 14lbs. The one thing I’m struggling with is that I’m still desperately craving sugar and I thought that might have dissipated by now! I eat one portion of fruit (e.g. an apple, a few slices of watermelon, a handful of strawberries) most days but wonder if that’s just keeping the sugar topped up and prolonging the feeling of dependence and whether I should drop it? I still feel like I could demolish a packet of biscuits at a moment’s notice, even though I know it would make me feel dreadful Sad

outwest · 19/07/2020 19:09

@Madhatterhouse Well done, sounds like steady progress. Does 750-850 cals include fruit? Apples not many calories, watermelon and strawberries also quite low, so probably not much impact. Question is whether, if you gave up fruit, you could still stick to diet. If "yes" then maybe stop fruit for week and see. If "no" then continue as you are.

TopCherry · 19/07/2020 19:13

Hello! Started it at the start of this week just gone, well Tuesday...lost 3lbs. I eased into it, Tues 1000 cals, wed 900 then 800-900 rest of the week, closer to 800 tbh. I've allowed myself 1 Fab ice lolly (75cals) last few days as the been hot and ditching the sugar is a beast, so that's my treat but I'm not having any other treats. I'm getting fuller each day 😊❤️

TopCherry · 19/07/2020 19:16

Oh and I'm not diabetic or pre diabetic just 12st 9 (was 12 st 12 at start of week) and 5ft 3" so I had a BMI of 32.

TopCherry · 19/07/2020 19:18

Can't tell you how relieved I was to be out of the double figure lbs range!!!! I was scarily close to 13st.

outwest · 19/07/2020 20:11

Closing today at 905 cals.
Black coffee for breakfast as always (2 cals), chickpea chilli (270) for lunch, pork steaks with mustard sauce for dinner (290), some steamed veg (30-ish) along with a big 80g chunk of cheese, for 300 cals (!). However, spent several hours in hard physical work in woodland today, so estimate I burned a conservative 230 calories in exercise. Physically quite fatigued but content. Lovely weather, fabulous mackerel skies this afternoon. A good day.

Welcome @TopCherry, the start's the important thing.

mswibblewobble · 19/07/2020 21:03

Finally lost a whole pound today after a week long stall!
Completely didn't occur to me but came on this morning so hoping is related, although if weight stalls for a whole week before each month I won't be happy! Let's hope I get 2 weeks loss into 1 this week then! Grin

Is just so frustrating. I havent drunk in 3 weeks (was getting to at least 3 bottles a week in lockdown Blush) plus no chocolate or snacks, low carbs and 800 calories must make a difference somehow!

Justasecondnow · 19/07/2020 22:29

ilovemydogandmrobama2 - yes that Indian takeaway option would have been sensible and doable ... sadly not not to be as ended up with a Chinese banquet! Fail! Still I did lots of small things that were better that day - out for breakfast with family, ordered off menu egg and beans, didn’t just get full English as oh well I’m having a takeaway later. Only had one duck and pancake, two ribs, and small servings off mains - no seconds. And a small wine, not half a bottle. Normally I scoff at a takeaway - so not good, but better! Plus today I was full until dinner so fasted (kinda had milk in tea) until dinner which was steak and veg. Also fitted in lots of steps today.

Hoping can pull it back this week- I have before but if not, have 4 more weeks to do better!

And agree outwest let’s keep this thread going! And great that kimlek has kindly volunteered as our safe pair hands in the interim.

Oh and welcome houseRefurb, Madhatterhouse and topcherry

Sorry long post!

I’ve been continuing my podcast listening and settled on the Low carb MD podcast. It’s not perfect but it’s interesting as Jason Fung is collaborating with two doctors who have lost over 100lb each alongside Meghan Ramos abd lots of different experts each week.

The guy they had on today was Vinnie Tortorich. He’s definitely worth looking up as he sounds incredibly knowledgeable, works with Hollywood a listers and has a film out. Something that stuck out today was the link between out of control hormones and raging lepton and ghrelin levels. I’d already made an association with not adhering to a diet correctly and getting a very rumbly stomach. Then adhering to the diet correctly and my stomach being very quiet indeed. I think it’s a sign. So if your doing everything properly and you’re not triggering insulin then your hunger hormones shut up. If you are trying to do things properly but have a suspicion your not being strict enough then a grumbly stomach will tell you you’re correct, you’re not compliant. So basically you can use that as a guide.

anotherneighinparadise,
New to the podcast world. Can I ask, Which app/website do you use for listening to podcasts? Is it a paid service?

NibbleQueen · 20/07/2020 07:05

Hi all, long-standing but this is my very first post on all of mumsnet! I've been following the calorie restriction but haven't been especially diligent with the low carb element (have been eating fruit and wholegrain rice every other evening). Unsurprisingly I have failed to lose weight on the plan! Any tips for getting very low carb? I tend to skip breakfast, lunch is something lentil-y with lots of veg, snack on greek yog w fruit then dinner is usually fish or chicken with lots of veg (sometimes rice on the side) and a bit of craft chocolate.

Also I'm interested to hear the weight loss experience of people who weren't that big to begin with. I'm 9st12 and 5"3, hoping to get down to the elusive 9st7 in the next few weeks!

I’m using Spotify which my DP does pay for but I’m sure we used to have it and not pay for it. I’d be interested what other people are using.
justanotherneighinparadise · 20/07/2020 07:51

Here’s an article about different ways to listen to podcasts. You can do it through your browser.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/media/2017/oct/07/how-to-listen-to-podcasts-everything-you-need-to-know

houseRefurb · 20/07/2020 09:13

justanotherneighinparadise,
Thank you for that. I will have a look at the article.

I used to have the paid version of Spotify, installed it again this morning and listened to a Jason Fung podcast..just wanted it for my morning walk, so, picked the first on the list; it was hosted by a guy who was doing all these promotions.. Kind of annoying. But, listened till the end. Jason Fung being a practising doctor explains the science without over hyping it. Really liked it.

Will look up MM's podcast that someone had mentioned and the other JFung one too.
Thanks

Avogato · 20/07/2020 09:15

Hello! New poster here, please can I join?

I’m starting the Fast 800 diet today. Plan to stick to the 800 cals a day for the 12 weeks but we will see how things go.

Currently 10st 8lb (and three quarters) and will probably weigh daily as that seems to work for me.

Going to be using recipes from the 800 recipe book and will pop over to the recipe thread for more inspiration Smile

Would love to hear of any success stories so far using this way of eating.

houseRefurb · 20/07/2020 09:20

outwest, hope I will get there too Smile
I have started adding a tiny pinch of salt as was suggested by someone in this thread. And add a bit of cinnamon too. I can have an espresso black, but not a long coffee.

NibbleQueen · 20/07/2020 09:42

@Avogato I'm new today too! What are your plans for the first week?

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 20/07/2020 10:05

Hi everyone, I'm back. I lost a stone in June on fast 800, but have hovered at the same weight since, and enjoyed the end of term celebrating a bit too much maybe. 😂

I'm now committing to the next six weeks of the school hols in the hope of losing another stone. Signing in for accountability!

TRE 18:6

Today's meals:
Dinner: Homemade Chilli & Roasted Pepper.
Tea: Pizza Topped Chicken & Cauliflower Garlic Bread.

Exercise:
Body Project HIIT
Les Mills BodyPump
44km cycle.

Have a great day everyone. 😊

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 20/07/2020 10:06

Oh, and I'm going to weigh every day over the next six weeks so I can see the true pattern/relationship between my meals and my losses with regards to carb intake etc.

PhoenixMama · 20/07/2020 10:51

Hey gang! Down 1lb today which after the weekend is a relief. I wasn't off the rails but did have a couple of glasses of prosecco. I want to lose 3 more lbs before end of the month (and my holiday) so will be doing really low carbs this week. Just going to have to power through any/all the stress.

Hello to all the newbies! Someone asked about success stories - I lost almost 50lbs in 16 weeks on the plan last year and have pretty much maintained it but I'd like to lose another 10lbs before then end of September and then hopefully another 10 after that before xmas.

My biggest tips are: take your measurements at the start - there will be weeks where you plateau weight wise but will lose inches.

Drink more than 3L of water a day - anything less than that & it takes me a lot longer to lose.

Up your salt intake (and magnesium - I use a magnesium oil spray) too - this will help with the water retention!

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa - how on earth do you do 44km cycle on 800 calls - I'd pass out!

@NibbleQueen Rice is one of the big no nos (along with bread, pasta and potatoes) I'd cut it out completely. Also Lentils are really carby as well. Do you use My Fitness Pal or something similar to track? My guess is your carbs are really high and that's why you're not seeing a loss. Its not just about the calories - it's what those calories are made up of as well.

Ok - I'm off to work - have a great day all!

NibbleQueen · 20/07/2020 11:38

Ohh I thought pulses were OK to include in the plan. I'm using Lifesum because I prefer the interface and it makes me eat more veg!

Today's feedings are lentil salad (40g lentils) w radish, radicchio, almonds and green beans.
Dinner will be chicken thighs on crushed courgettes w lime. Will probably have a couple of squares of chocolate and some miso soup at some point this afternoon.

That's adding up to about 60g of carbs. Is that too high or about right?
