I've got lots to lose, I'm feeling lousy, so heavy, achy and sluggish and I can't bear to see myself in the mirror so I'm making a dramatic change. Losing a pound a week is not going to cut it.

I eat far too many carbs so I think this Mediterranean style of eating and the the drastic cut in calories will do me good. I've read the book, I've stocked up on the right foods and cleared out the crap. I haven't eaten yet but I'll have my first meal soon.

I know that it will be hard going at times but the promise of rapid weight loss is worth a bit of pain.

Wish me luck. I'll update on my progress as I go.

Day 1 for me and it's gone pretty well so far.

Evenings are usually very snack-y for me though so need to stay very strong.

Tomorrow evening I'm planning on doing a chicken curry, I've worked out the calories etc and it around 400cals which is reasonable but: what would you have it with?? I can't start cauliflower - is it still worth me trying cauli rice? Any other accompaniments?

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 06/03/2019 19:01

@down. I can't claim to be a Cauliflower fan either, but mixed with a couple of tablespoons of brown rice and it's actually really very nice.

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 06/03/2019 19:01

@dare whoop go you! Well done hun x

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/03/2019 20:03

I don't like cauli rice, but I do like cauliflower. For just a week night tea I'd just have curry with veg or salad. You can have poppadoms provided they are made of 100% lentil flour (some are a mix of lentil/rice flour)

My second fast day today, not gone as well as Monday- I ate too early I think. Ending on about 900 cals, 30g carbs

Jacksback · 06/03/2019 20:18

Confession time well and truely fell of the wagon today
I don’t know what happened , honestly been finding it easy ish so far , but today was a disaster
Tomorrow I will be back on it ,
Hope you are all doing ok

Catbot · 06/03/2019 22:21

But you've done great so far Jacks. Are you going to switch to 5:2 after 14 days?

ParmaViolet44 · 07/03/2019 08:32

Jacksback I am with you. I went over on my ankle running yesterday quite badly and have a nasty feeling I've done something tricky and I'm going to be told I need to lay off for a while. So upsetting as I've worked really hard to get my fitness up and was really enjoying it.

I was doing well until I started watching GBBO and then the sugar cravings went through the roof. Didn't help that I was stuck feeling sorry for myself with ice on my ankle! Ended up eating yogurt with a banana and some fruit compote so not as bad as it could have been but ended up way over my 800 calories.

Back on it today, unsweetened green tea is my punishment breakfast! [shudders] The calorie deficit is usually so big that I'm sure one day won't derail you too badly.

cittigirl · 07/03/2019 08:38

Day 3 for me today and am 2.5lb down. I e had a headache since yesterday and trying to drink plenty but I tend to forget. I'm hungry this morning but hoping I can wait until lunch time. I've had decaf coffee with milk though. I need my cups in the morning. I've been having ready meals as it's easier, just to kick start. But ones with no rice, pasta or potato. But I did have a big tuna salad last night which was good. I hope I can keep this up for 2 weeks at least and then 5:2 Or 4:3 maybe.

DownRightAmazing · 07/03/2019 09:03

Day 2 for me and it's the sort of day when I would normally be mainlining carbs.

DD was up most of the night, she is sick and I get so worried about her. She has underlying health issues and although she doesn't seem desperately unwell at the moment it does tricker major anxiety when she is sick.

Normally I'd be treating myself to make up for it but I'm really going to try to sick to my 800cals again today. I have had two cups of tea already which I know isn't ideal from a fasting POV but I need it, I don't like black or fruit teas. Hope I can cope :(

WhoNose21 · 07/03/2019 11:55

I had a Chinese last night so that was terrible. I was soooo planned and good all day but got to my boyfriends all soggy, wet and hungry and things just went from there. I am in a complete panic that i am never going to be able to lose weight. I’m at work at the minute and it’s someones birthday and they’re ordering chippy for dinner plus cakes plus donuts... it’s just so, so hard :(

movinonup · 07/03/2019 14:36

Joining in if I may.
I currently weigh 15 stone 7 lbs, 3.5 stone I've put on in the last year and a half. I don't recognise myself.

I go on holiday with my best friend 12 weeks today and I'd like to lose at least two stone by then.
I just ordered the book and it will be here tomorrow.

Planning on sticking to a 300 calorie lunch and a 500 calorie dinner consumed within the hours of 1 p.m to 7 p.m
Weigh-in daily and try and get at least half an hour of exercise in per day. I've joined my fitness pal also to try and keep an eye on everything.

Lunch today was boiled eggs with small bit of mustard mayo, Carrot sticks and hummus. Bought them as snack packs at co-op so I knew exactly what calories they contained.

Planning a 500 calorie dinner based on beef mince, As that is currently defrosting. Will go and research recipes now.

Thanks to you all for starting and contributing to this thread, I'd never heard of fast800 and think this is the one for me.

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 07/03/2019 15:13

@movi welcome hun. Just a word of experience, a lot of the 'healthy' lunch items have processed sugars. This will make sticking to the 800 harder as you won't be kicking the sugar habit and might get hella cravings. At least that's what happened to me on day 2. Hmm

movinonup · 07/03/2019 15:59

Thanks @Ghost, Hoping to cut out processed crap altogether :)
Hoping to stock up the fridge and cupboards once I've had a good read of the book.
I'm hoping to convert some recipes to use in the slow cooker as am usually knackered by dinner time and thats where it all goes horribly wrong :)

Aberforthsgoat · 07/03/2019 16:21

Is anyone else really struggling with hunger? I’m eating well but I’m still hungry all the time!

Jacksback · 07/03/2019 17:12

catbot and parma
Hoping to do 8 weeks on the 800 cals .. hoping 😚
Been perfect today , I think it was lack of planning yesterday , getting too hungry and then ‘ sod it ‘ kicked in .
So many things can knock you off the plan !
As you know I can’t read the scales with the little markings so I am delighted to say picking new ones up tonight .. I hope they don’t weigh me heavier than the ones I have

Keep on keeping on ( koko )

cittigirl · 07/03/2019 17:45

My day calorie wise is going well. My health not so. Call from gp after an ecg turns out either it's my bad anxiety right now or I've had a mild heart attack. Seems this motivation has come none too soon. I was going to have beef mince 5% fat stuff but have thought better of it and have bought myself some beet burgers from m and s to try. A tiny bit of rice in them but mainly chick pea, lentils and beet obviously. I'll update later on how they taste. I'm in it for the long haul as long as I can stand it.

Aberforthsgoat · 07/03/2019 17:57

@cittigirl jeez poor you! Obviously hoping it’s the anxiety even though anxiety is a devil, I’ve been suffering with it too.

I was doing so well then got really hungry and ended up eating three mini scones. So I’m annoyed with myself now. On the bright side they are now all gone and I shan’t be replacing them.

Oh well it’s a new day tomorrow right

cittigirl · 07/03/2019 18:03

Thank you.

Yes tomorrow is always a new day Wink

KeepSmiling83 · 07/03/2019 19:25

I have just finished reading the book and am going to start in the next few days.

@DarkDarkNight do you stick to 800 cals but still eat some carbs? My big worry is that I am quite fussy and don't eat eggs, fish or much meat. So I will probably stick to mainly veggie recipes and possibly add some brown rice or quinoa. So I will stick to 800 cals but maybe not eat as Mediterranean as I should? Is this like you? Does it still work?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/03/2019 19:45

Unfortunately, the real results from this diet do come from avoiding those key carbs which cause your blood sugars to rise, and insulin to release quickly, exacerbating insulin resistance. So, bread, potato, flour products, sugar, pasta, rice, breakfast cereals and also avoiding too much fruit. You can still eat carbs in the form of 'above ground' veg, nuts, legumes, lentils, berries, dairy carbs (lactose) etc but to be honest if you eat only 800 cals and don't exclude those higher GI carbs, you'll probably be very hungry.

Do you eat cheese/ dairy? Oily fish? Meat replacements like quorn ? Avocado? Lentils? You can definitely get your fat and protein in other ways other than eggs and meat. Quinoa is probably a better choice than rice, and you can have some, but not too much. If you use your calories on good fats rather than carbs you will probably find it easier and have better results.

DownRightAmazing · 07/03/2019 19:51

Well I managed today, day 2 but it was tough going - I'm under the weather, DD is sick and we had a bad night. I perhaps didn't eat as sensibly as I should've but it's a big improvement from what I usually would eat so fingers crossed. I had:

Late morning: homemade houmous and crudités
Mid afternoon: plain prawns with salad
Evening: chicken korma (home made) with a half-portion of whole meal rice.

Need to drink more water

Jacksback · 07/03/2019 19:59

downright
Siunds to me like you did well today , you’re a bit tough on yourself , especially with you dd being ill 💐

KeepSmiling83 · 07/03/2019 20:25

Yes I eat cheese, dairy, lentils etc and I eat chicken so some of the recipes in the book I can eat. I thought about having a smoothie for breakfast or yoghurt, berries and oats. Then maybe some homemade soup for lunch and one of the chicken dishes for tea. Would that be ok? I already have soup twice a week for my evening meal but I do have some bread with it. I thought about only having a small piece of bread rather than my normal two slices as a treat!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/03/2019 20:44

Keep smiling I make smoothies sometimes too, I use almond milk, peanut butter, Greek yog/avocado, frozen berries and spinach- lots of fats and protein, very low sugar, decent amount of calories (as a meal rather than a snack). One thing I would say- a lot of people starting this plan don't believe they can do it, and they certainly don't believe they'll enjoy it. Personally I would cut out the bread, the rice- believe in the plan, and believe in yourself. If you hate it and struggle every day without it, then yeah, a slice of bread is not going to spell the end of the world. But you might manage without it. For me, that one slice of bread would open the floodgates to all sorts of rubbish, and that's where the damage is done.

Hope you don't mind me saying that, and obviously I don't know you and your circumstances, but when we cling to that little bit of our old ways for fear that we'll not enjoy life without it, honestly, it can hold you back from really achieving what you could.

I know that's a bit deep for a slice of bread but..... Grin

KeepSmiling83 · 07/03/2019 21:07

@thenewaveragebear1983 😂 very deep for a slice of bread but I agree with you!

I am going to try to stick to the meals in the book for as long as I can. Do you have the recipe for the smoothie you mentioned? Any ideas for snacks? I am going to try 12:12 then move to 14:10 but want to have an idea of some snacks I could eat so I don't reach for unhealthy things if I'm really hungry!

Can anyone recommend another recipe book that suits this diet? I prefer simple recipes that haven't got loads of ingredients because I will have to cook separately for me and my children. I want to meal plan so there is no room for slips! I thought if I bought a recipe book this weekend then I will be all set for next week!
