I've got lots to lose, I'm feeling lousy, so heavy, achy and sluggish and I can't bear to see myself in the mirror so I'm making a dramatic change. Losing a pound a week is not going to cut it.

I eat far too many carbs so I think this Mediterranean style of eating and the the drastic cut in calories will do me good. I've read the book, I've stocked up on the right foods and cleared out the crap. I haven't eaten yet but I'll have my first meal soon.

I know that it will be hard going at times but the promise of rapid weight loss is worth a bit of pain.

Wish me luck. I'll update on my progress as I go.

Morning all!

Well done @Jacksback must feel great to get back in to previously tight clothes...great victory!

I have been very strict and determined and it's paying off...got on the scales today and another lb off making it 12lb in total!

Now just to survive pancake day in school and at home with my DS. Not too fussed on the actually pancakes but it's the toppings I could slip up on but determined to avoid!

Hope everyone has a great day!

ParmaViolet44 · 05/03/2019 08:55

Ugh slept horribly last night so feeling really tired and sluggish. Awake since 2am. I started MMs other book and apparently insomnia is one of the signs that you are in mild ketosis so I'm choosing to see it as a positive sign!

Had to resist the urge this morning when kids were munching pancakes. Willpower set to maximum!

Still determined though! Keep reminding myself of the lovely summer dresses I couldn't fit into last year!

Have a good day everyone!

Aberforthsgoat · 05/03/2019 11:18

Today is going well.
Had coffee with almond milk.
Later:
Heck chicken sausages (two grilled 99 calls) and a scrambled egg for lunch
Dinner will be courgetti with a tiny spoon of pesto and cream, homemade mini turkey meatballs, carrot, broccoli (409 cals)
Snacks: unsalted nuts/ Greek yogurt with a couple of raspberries

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 05/03/2019 15:35

Another pound off here today too. That makes 18lb in 16 days. I've discovered that chia seeds as part of breakfast keeps me much fuller than linseeds, but that they don't have the same desirable fibre results!

I weighed breakfast out today and was pleasantly surprised that my guesstimate portions were a little smaller than the weighed portions. So really happy that my portion sizes are on track.
I'm making dried shrimp foo yung and garlic soy pork for tea. Tried zero noodles but couldn't get past the texture so I'm going to make Jasmine Cauliflower rice instead.
Good luck everyone.

yumyumpoppycat · 05/03/2019 15:37

hello everyone - thanks for welcoming me on here even though I am not the most inspiring person given humongous post BSD weight gain. So I made the mistake of having a pre diet blow out on sunday which meant on Monday I didn't want to go to work as I couldn't find anything to wear that fit me Blush obviously I squeezed myself into something and went in but I felt so big, I think sunday must have just tipped my weight/bloat that bit tooo far. I have just bought a big cardie and a couple of tops now to tide me over but hopefully they soon be complemented by smaller stuff in my wardrobe. On the up side it meant 1 good day on Monday and the scales were down 3lbs.

Haven't been perfect foodwise today so feeling hungry but hopefully I will still have a loss tomorrow.

Aber your food today sounds great. I really need to up my veg.

I love your positive slant re sleep Parma - hope you sleep better tonight.

Everyone seems to be doing so well. I have now read the new fast 800 book which really has helped to get me positive that this is the right step for me, particularly that the time when weight is lower isn't cancelled out by regaining weight.

yumyumpoppycat · 05/03/2019 15:40

Welldone ghostbuster that is fab weightloss!!

DownRightAmazing · 05/03/2019 15:46

I'm starting tomorrow! (After pancakes tonight 😂😂😂)

Tomorrow I'm planning:
2 boiled eggs and asparagus soldiers for breakfast
Homemade houmous and crudités for light lunch
Lean beef stir fry, plenty of veg, easy on the olive oil and no noodles

Plenty of water

Any tips for my first day? I fear the hunger...

UAEMum · 05/03/2019 15:56

Despite the doughnut I had lost another 0.3kg. Today I have had yoghurt with frozen strawberries and blueberries and some nuts and pumpkin seeds. Then I had a chickpea salad. For dinner leftover butter chicken and a couple of spoons of rice. All 10-6

cittigirl · 05/03/2019 16:09

My first day yesterday was a disaster as I met a friend for coffee and she'd made scones and home made jam. I didn't gave the heart to refuse so the day went from bad to worse Blush.

But, I now have the book and have started today. No breakfast, which is better for me. For lunch I had an omelette with peppers. For dinner I have chicken tikka and cauli rice. I've had milk for my tea and I may have enough cals left for a hot choc but not sure I should risk it. I'm so looking forward to dropping some weight now.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/03/2019 16:19

I did my first proper fast day (800 cals) in a long time yesterday, as part of my alternate day strategy. To be honest, I enjoyed it, and didn't feel hungry really until I started cooking in the evening. It definitely helped that I had planned my meal to the nth degree so when I got hungry I knew exactly what was available.

Today I've eaten more, done loads if exercise (6km walk, 9km run, plus circuits later) but have managed on just a piece of cheese and some cold meat so far. Fasting seems to have curbs my appetite a bit today.

DareDevil223 · 05/03/2019 18:47

Evening all. Great weight loss Ghostbuster Grin

Day 2 of new job and I have basically gone all day (up since 6am, got back around 6pm) on a diet protein pancake, blueberries and an apple. Oddly I'm more exhausted than I am hungry.

I'm waiting for my Linda McCartney burger to cook. I'm having it with a big salad and a slice of rye sourdough as I need carbs! Didn't weigh this morning but will tomorrow. I have to negotiate the away day tomorrow including ignoring the inevitable mini Danish pastries Smile I hope there's something I can eat or it'll be another long hungry day. #prayforDaredevil

Came back to say that the slice of toasted sourdough was the most amazing thing I have eaten since I started this diet. No way will I be able to give up good bread permanently after the 8 weeks. I'll cut down though, honest.....

@daredevil glad you're new job is going well. Thank you regards the weight loss.
@yumyum Thank you to you also

ParmaViolet44 · 05/03/2019 19:56

Sourdough is my favourite thing in the world. How many calories do you move on to (roughly) after the 8 weeks when you're on 'non-fasting' days?

I will need to set some aside for a slice of sourdough definitely!

Today I had banana and blueberry protein pancakes for breakfast with 1/2 a grapefruit
Lunch - 2 eggs scrambled with 50g smoked salmon and 30g cucumber
Dinner - Turkey Bolognese with 100g Jerusalem artichokes (my new favourite things!)

Tomorrow I've decided to try 2 slightly more substantial meals a day rather than 3 to see if that helps with hunger pangs. We'll see!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/03/2019 20:19

Parma I use a tdee calculator and vary my non fast days between full tdee (not including exercise cals) or a sort of mid point eg 1400, but try to keep the carbs still low. I run a lot so sometimes I just don't count calories, but I'm at real danger of massively overeating if I do that.

Currently I have only about 3-5lbs left to lose and Am training for a half marathon, so I'm doing alternate day 800 cals and 1400 but will probably have 1 complete day of no counting at all.

Catbot · 06/03/2019 07:45

I'm checking in. Start of day three. I'm staying in a hotel and have a food allowance but on the way here yesterday I stopped and got a Tossed salad from the service station which was 600 cals (and enormous!) and I had a can of Coke Zero. I struggle most with drinking liquids so it's a small price to pay. Earlier in the day I had a small banana at about 3pm and two sticks of celery. Living the dream 😄

I could go downstairs and have a breakfast but I think if I eat now I'll be starving later, so I'm going to wait it out again until about 2pm.

Great thread, very supportive.

Did you make your sourdough or did you buy it Daredevil?

Catbot · 06/03/2019 07:47

What's TDEE the new average? (My ignorance Confused)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/03/2019 08:05

Oh sorry catbot, it means Total daily energy expenditure- so its a rough formula based on your weight, age, activity levels etc that tells you his many calories you need a day (approx) to maintain your weight. You can use this figure to then say, deduct 500 a day to be in deficit

tdeecalculator.net/

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/03/2019 08:07

I would add, they are a bit generous (as are we sometimes) at estimating exercise calories, and particularly exertion (eg very active/active lifestyles) so be mindful when filling in your details. I tend to just use my absolute base level based on sedentary even though I do 15k steps at least every day, and add a few extra calories if I run, rather than trust the calculator.

WhoNose21 · 06/03/2019 08:47

Morning everyone. Did my first proper day yesterday (finally!!!!) so feeling like I can do this. Got yoghurt, strawberries and raspberries for breakfast and a small cheese roll with crisps (I know I shouldn’t but they’re under my calories and I’ll go insane if I go cold turkey) for dinner. Home made vegetable soup for tea so coming in at just over 700 calories for today if everything goes to plan. Good luck everyoen

yumyumpoppycat · 06/03/2019 09:35

Parma - I can't eat Jerusalem artichokes as they do strange things to my insides but they are supposed to be mega good for your gut.

Bear that is exciting about half mara - sounds like you have a great plan - well done.

Sounds like a good first fast whonose!

I was quite high on cals and carbs yest but still had a little loss so v happy.

sourdough sounds lovely daredevil - a small amount of bread worked for me when I did this before and kept me on track - so long as it is part of a meal with protein and veg etc. My problem is eating bread by itself - especially late at night. I simply cannot do that anymore as it seems to result in pretty much 1lb a day weight gain if I eat some toast (say 2 slices so not loads) late at night. The section of the book where MM describes how much more affect a meal had on his blood sugar readings late at night rather than the morning makes me certain something like that must be happening for me.

LittlePaintBox · 06/03/2019 12:28

Book arrived yesterday, wanted to start full-on today but haven't read enough to get the gist of it yet. Have gradually crept up to being very overweight over several years of illness and am keen to cut out the side effects of carrying too much weight, which isn't helping.

WhoopiGoldbergsCat · 06/03/2019 12:38

I'm on day 3 now, weighed this morning and 2.5lb off, so that's good.
I'm seriously struggling with sugar cravings, anyone got any tips?

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 06/03/2019 18:28

@whoopie sweet strawberries dipped in a few squares of 70% chocolate as my evening meal got me through my worst in week one.

DareDevil223 · 06/03/2019 18:38

So tired after away day, trains and lots of walking. I ignored pastries, desserts, cookies, naan breads and afternoon mini cakes. I had Thai red chickpea and vegetable curry for lunch with one tablespoon of rice and a big salad. Feeling quite proud of myself Smile
