I've got lots to lose, I'm feeling lousy, so heavy, achy and sluggish and I can't bear to see myself in the mirror so I'm making a dramatic change. Losing a pound a week is not going to cut it.

I eat far too many carbs so I think this Mediterranean style of eating and the the drastic cut in calories will do me good. I've read the book, I've stocked up on the right foods and cleared out the crap. I haven't eaten yet but I'll have my first meal soon.

I know that it will be hard going at times but the promise of rapid weight loss is worth a bit of pain.

Wish me luck. I'll update on my progress as I go.

Keep
I just bung it all in the nutribullet- it's probably 200ml almond milk, 50g yoghurt, 50g berries, a few frozen spinach 'lumps', I buy peanut butter powder from Sainsbury's (because I cannot be trusted with real PB in the house)- give it a really good blitz.

For other recipes, I do various things from Jamie Oliver and just tweak them for carbs, I have a really good diabetes cook book too, or search Pinterest for keto, paleo or HFLC recipes (although watch the calories because keto especially tend to high in cals I find). You can find blood sugar diet recipes online too, or even meal plans.

Generally I tend to cook simple food, and the dc eat the same but with added carbs. So I do a big mince, split half into a chilli, half into a bolognese- then serve with pasta or rice for the dc, veg for me. Things like chicken wrapped in bacon, fish with Mediterranean toppings (eg cheese, herbs, olives), high meat % sausages, tray bake type meals with chicken portions - all lend themselves well to the plan and you can easily add carbs in the form of rice/chips/ potato for the dc.

Snacks- hard boiled eggs, crudités and Philli or hummus, cooked meat/chicken legs, nuts (but very easy to overeat), or even just a milky coffee can keep you going til your next meal. I also quite like a mug of hot sugar free squash, which is a nice sweet hit if you really need something.

Some good ideas on here too.

Some great ideas on here. I've got a dull headache tonight, I've tried upping my fluid but I really struggle to drink enough (always have done). I've also bought a few ready meals from M&S which are fairly low in carbs. Tonight I had a chicken tikka with cauli rice dish and a whole thing of cabbage medley which only came to 500 odd calories. I had a slim a soup for lunch because that's all there was.

But today I didn't feel hungry at all!

Jacksback · 08/03/2019 07:17

Day 12 , still a 6lb loss , was hoping for a bit more tbh . But better than I ever did at s/w so will keep going . I did have a bad wed so that has prob affected it .
Salad and lamb kiftas for lunch , tea will be fish and veg , no snacks ( I find it easier not to snack as once I start I get the munchies ) small piece fruit , fingers crossed
Loving my new scales too ( sad I know lol )

Catbot · 08/03/2019 07:27

No shame in loving new things Jacks Smile

I've just weighed myself - I've lost 8lb in the last four days! I think I retain a lot of water so most of it is that but all the same! It took months on SW to get to that point so v pleased. Today I'm going to start planning so that I don't rely on convenience food.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/03/2019 08:00

Jacks what scales are they? Kitchen or bathroom? I fancy some new bathroom scales- you can get fancy-schmancy ones that connect to your Fitbit and do all sorts of body fat % and stuff. Dh wouldn't buy me them for Christmas because he said he'd never live it down.

Jacksback · 08/03/2019 12:33

My new scales This is quite basic , no fancy stuff but big letters ( which I need) under £20 from Argos
Slick design too and can be set to imperial or metric (I’m old school lol )
Loving them
Will love them
More if I see a loss tomorrow xxx

catbot well done ! That’s amazing

cittigirl · 08/03/2019 13:18

Catbot and Jacksback, well done that's amazing. I'm on day 4 and I've lost 3.5lb. Was hoping for a little more I guess but I'm still motivated especially after yesterday's health news! We can do this

ParmaViolet44 · 08/03/2019 14:09

So day 12 and I've lost 9lbs!! I was a bit worried stepping on the scales this morning as I haven't been able to exercise and had a couple of days when I went over my calories (not massively though) but I'm surprised and very chuffed!

I am expecting the weight loss to slow down as I carry on but the fact that I have lost ANYTHING is amazing as I have always struggled for weeks to lose even 1lb on other diets. I have been hungry though, gulping down tons of green tea and fruit teas just to curb the pangs.

Got into my first pair of "used to be too tight" jeans yesterday! Smile

Anyone else read the article about low carb diets and heart arrhythmia?

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 08/03/2019 16:04

Finally past the 20lb loss mark! I was starting to properly get jiffied off!

viccat · 08/03/2019 16:19

Day 12 here as well and I've lost 7 pounds so far. I'm quite pleased with that and definitely feel a bit slimmer.

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 08/03/2019 16:20

Ohhhh I made the korma from the book last night. BUT all the korma pastes I found had palm sugar in Not good on two counts! I made my own spice blend and it was absolutely lush. This is what I used for 4 people.
All ground:
2 tablespoons of cumin
1 tablespoon of coriander
1 tablespoon of turmeric
1 tablespoon of onion powder
1 tablespoon of garlic powder
Whole spices
1 tablespoon of cardamom
1 tablespoon of black mustard seed
1 tablespoon of nigella seed
2 tablespoons of full fat Greek yogurt

I mixed everything with the yogurt and chucked it in a freezer bag with raw chicken thighs and marinated for about two hours. Before I sauteed the onion and garlic etc I cooked the chicken in a really hot dry pan so it blackened the spice mix.

Day 3 - new day new challenge :)

I woke up feeling a bit rough, I have a slight cold with a sore though and sinus pressure but wasn't sure if I might also be suffering from 'Keto flu' already? A quick google says it's possible and that the symptoms stem mainly from dehydration and imbalances electrolytes. So I had a dioralyte sachet as well as cold meds' and plenty of water and am feeling ok now.

DH and I are going out for dinner tonight so I am gearing myself up to be very sensible, another time I might have a cheat day but it's only day 3 and I want to make the most of my motivation. So I'm going to have steak and salad and I'm hoping I'll get away with a bit of steak sauce given that the only other thing I've eaten today is a 2-egg omelette, dry fried with onions, peppers and water thin ham and a big salad.

DareDevil223 · 08/03/2019 16:26

Glad you're all doing well. My first week in the new job has gone well though I have been a bit more hungry than before due to the longer day. I'm sticking to it and I'm another couple of pounds down. I did think it would drop off a bit faster though. I suppose that I can't really complain about losing a stone in under three weeks :)

I was doing my online Waitrose shop the other day and when I was checking out and got to the the 'You usually get this' bit it was a picture of a luscious almond croissant! Thanks a whole bunch Waitrose you bastards Grin

I have been really cold though - has anyone else noticed this?

GhostBuster you are awesome - doing so brilliantly! xx

Wow ghost, that's incredible. In less than 3 weeks is it?

I'm craving chocolate or cake today but I'm just drinking tea and hope it will subside. I'm determined to keep going. I hope I have a decent loss tomorrow. I'm looking forward to my dinner tonight.

Are any of you drinking diet coke or lemonade or anything like that? I've bought some but not drunk any. Is it ok to have or will it slow my loss down?

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 08/03/2019 17:50

It'll be 3 weeks Monday @citi it's not quite a fifth of what I need to lose though, even so I'm getting there!
Awww jeez shucks @dare Blush thanks mwah X I know what you mean, I was doing an Amazon pantry shop for nuts/seeds etc and up pops 'today's special for you' and it's a goddamn 100g Reese's pieces egg for a fiver. I tell you my phone nearly went for flying lessons down all 9 stories Grin

Catbot · 08/03/2019 18:26

I'm treating myself to a Coke Zero every night Cittigirl. It gives me something to look forward to (sad) instead of chocolate or something else. Usually I'd be quaffing red wine so I feel it's a good compromise.

I am struggling tonight though! Really want to shovel food into my mouth.

cittigirl · 08/03/2019 18:58

Yes I feel a bit like that Catbot
I'll have a coke then and hope it doesn't make me stay awake later.

Knowivedonewrong · 08/03/2019 20:53

I'm 6 lbs down since Monday.
This works! 😉

Jacksback · 08/03/2019 21:17

catbot resist sometimes helps if you brus h your teeth , don’t want to spoil that lovely clean feeling 😬

To motivate myself - thinking of a brand new pair of ‘ rosie’ pjs my daughter bought me that have been languishing unworn as they were too tight on the behind
Just tried them on ( after forgetting about them ) and nearly there to fit into them .

Catbot · 09/03/2019 08:31

Hey thanks. I resisted and another 1lb down today so feeling motivated. I've started to plan for the week ahead but I could do with some ideas for reasonably quick meals for the evening. What have you all been eating?

cittigirl · 09/03/2019 08:51

Well done cat

I'm surprisingly a half pound up on the scales this morning. I know I need to drink more water but I am sticking to 800 cals though not necessarily from the actual plan. I guess I need to reduce the carbs. I've had granola and a some potato it the last couple of days and yesterday I has beet burgers which contain rice. Oh well, it's not put me off, I will try and simplify my diet more.

DareDevil223 · 09/03/2019 09:30

2 weeks and 5 days in and 15lbs down. Pretty pleased with that. I think I'll be able to do the 8 weeks Smile

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 09/03/2019 10:44

Jumped on the scales this morning to find I've put 3lb on overnight. I cried a bit and then all the old weight loss nonsense started filtering into my brain. Anyway, I am massively constipated, on my period, and feel as bloated as a very bloated thing so I'm going to carry on carrying on and I'm just going to weigh myself on a Friday morning so that the fluctuations don't need with my head. Good luck for the weekend everyone
