I've got lots to lose, I'm feeling lousy, so heavy, achy and sluggish and I can't bear to see myself in the mirror so I'm making a dramatic change. Losing a pound a week is not going to cut it.

I eat far too many carbs so I think this Mediterranean style of eating and the the drastic cut in calories will do me good. I've read the book, I've stocked up on the right foods and cleared out the crap. I haven't eaten yet but I'll have my first meal soon.

I know that it will be hard going at times but the promise of rapid weight loss is worth a bit of pain.

Wish me luck. I'll update on my progress as I go.

My motivation is also to fit back into my favourite size 10 clothes. I've been doing some Marie Kondo style wardrobe organising recently and many of the things that spark joy are currently too small for me! I don't have lots to lose (about 10-15kg from my starting weight) but as I'm short, any extra weight really shows.

Secondly, health reasons. I was really worried at some points in recent months that I might be T2 diabetic as I seemed to be excessively thirsty and quite tired. I knew I had been eating awfully for months and since I'm not getting any younger (36 this year) feel it's really urgent now to address this to reduce not only my chances of getting diabetes but also cancer, stroke etc. lifestyle related illnesses.

DownRightAmazing · 03/03/2019 18:37

I'm gearing myself up to start. Still reading the book atm - can I ask how you break down the 800 cals? I mean I've read that it's supposed to be a med style diet, high protein and relatively low carb but do you aim for a specific amount of protein/carbs/fat each day?

Jacksback · 03/03/2019 19:10

downrightamazing If u are doing 800 cals then you don’t really need to count carbs as it is self limiting
Obviously don’t have bread potatoes and other card heavy stuff
I normally have a 300 cal lunch ( salad or soup )
@1230 ish then a 500 cal meal about 630 ish ( chicken , mozzarella tomato sauce and veg . Lots and lots water / fruit teas

Aberforthsgoat · 03/03/2019 21:12

Thanks for help Ghost.
I’m going to start tomorrow.

I’m quite looking forward to to, Ive managed to mindlessly eat so much this weekend that I now feel quite sick and ready to “cleanse”

I’m going to meal plan as I feel it’s going to be key!

LittlePaintBox · 04/03/2019 01:15

I've just ordered the book and am planning to do this for Lent. I am stones overweight, have a family wedding coming up just after Easter and if I can lose even a stone it will make a difference to the way I feel.

UAEMum · 04/03/2019 01:53

Yesterday I just did 16:8 and didnt eat badly. I had some carrot sticks and tomatos then an atkins bar that I found in the cupboard. I had a yoghurt witg berries and some walnuts. Then in the evening I has salmon with veggies and some sweet potato roasts. I lost 0.7kg

WhoNose21 · 04/03/2019 06:17

Good morning everyone. Thanks for the support over my mother’s comments Flowers I had a good day Saturday but yesterday went out for dinner AND tea so it all went to pot. Back on it today though, got 26 weeks till my holiday and I’m not going unless I weigh less then 11 stone!

DareDevil223 · 04/03/2019 07:59

3lbs off this week so 12lbs in total. I'm pretty pleased with that and I'm going to carry on with the 800 cals for the time being.

Now I'm off to the first day of my new job!

Have a great day all Smile

Wow 12lb off is amazing!
I've read through this thread and am going to start today. I've been eati g such crap for so long, always trying slimming world then giving up as weight loss slow.
I'm 14 stone and 8lb, I've just got on the scales for the first time in months, I'm absolutely gutted I've let myself get this big.
I'm going shopping now, getting the right food in.
I feel motivated in reading this thread, we'll done all of you.

Letshopethisdietworks · 04/03/2019 08:21

To anyone thinking of starting fast 800. Do it!!!
I have gone from 9 stone 3 to 8 stone 12 in just over a week!! Just stopped sugar and carb cravings and I'm so much less likely to pick in the evening!

Letshopethisdietworks · 04/03/2019 08:25

And the spinach and pea soup in the book is just delicious. I put a handful of grated cheese on to really fill me up. In case anyone is interestedGrin

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 04/03/2019 08:35

Ok, posting this is going to make me late but I DON'T CARE!!!! @daredevil this is a massive shout out to you. I read your recommended article and realised I had been massively underestimating the calories in the 'little sides' I had been adding thinking just veg wouldn't add up ... Classic fat thinking. So I decided yesterday afternoon to assume everything I'm eating is actually double the calories I think it is. Result I ate half as much as I would have and this morning I have lost 3lb.

@dare you may have just changed my life. Flowers

cittigirl · 04/03/2019 09:05

Hello all. I've just ordered the book but am going to start today. I'm so heavy and I feel so sluggish, all the things listed in the OP. I have about 5 stone to lose Sad bit will concentrate on half a stone at a time.
I haven't stocked the fridge properly as I'm waiting for the book but will stick to 800 cals of something until I go shopping. Fingers crossed I start to feel better soon

OhMrTumnus · 04/03/2019 09:50

@DareDevil223 best of luck for the first day in your new job! And your results from the diet are brilliant.

That article is really interesting and the calorie intake point resonated with me. I'd never previously weighed my food until this diet and from day one, I've weighed absolutely everything and if eating out, have tried to use the most calorific option in MFP to keep me in check. I feel that this, along with the fasting (e.g. no late night snacking!) has been the difference and helped me lose 25lbs.

One thing I'm worried about is coming off 800 calories and how to maintain the weight without piling it back on. Obviously keeping to the med diet, fasting habits but I don't know whether to reintroduce carbs or just try to have them as a one off as a treat.

oigetoffmycheese · 04/03/2019 10:40

@OhMrTumnus

Good point. Hello all btw have been following and started today too.

Thanks for the fabulous link to that article too. Really made me think.

Could switching to 5:2 or 16:8 work for maintaining.

I've done 5:2 for ages and not gained any weight until recently when I've had too many social occasions and fallen off the wagon somewhat.

I'm starting this again for as long as it takes to get back to my ideal weight and then will go back to 5:2 and 16:8 combo.

Just a thought.

DarkDarkNight · 04/03/2019 12:05

Starting my second week today. Weighed this morning and I am now 12.8, which is 9lb off in a week. I would say a few lbs of that is because I had a bit of period bloating/water retention last Monday but I’m really happy with that.

I feel a bit of a fraud on this thread because I’m not really eating in the way the book suggests, I’m sticking to 800 but have had small amounts of rice and pasta. I have cut out cereal, biscuits, cakes, chocolate and crisps and massively cut down on bread (having one slice a day if that) which is a big enough step for me for now.

I’ve also upped my veg consumption and am limiting fruit and sticking to apples, berries and peaches when I have it. I’m having full fat Greek Yoghurt with defrosted berries and a few flaked almonds in a bit. I would previously have shied away from using that many calories on yoghurt and nuts but wouldn’t have thought twice about using those calories on chocolate.

I’m not hungry, but I am a bit food obsessed, endlessly putting meals in and out of MFP to see what combinations work well and thinking about what I can eat for my next meal.

Catbot · 04/03/2019 12:32

I'm in. Starting today. Sod trying to lose a lb a week - I need to see results! Grin

ParmaViolet44 · 04/03/2019 13:04

Weighed in today, lost 5.5lbs in a week so happy with that! Feeling fully motivated to crack on for week 2! Smile

Have a long-planned lunch with some friends this weekend so need to do my best to stay on track. Hopefully with all the exercise one day when I go slightly over won't undo all my hard work!

Aberforthsgoat · 04/03/2019 14:27

Today so far I’ve had Zero noodles with veg and some spices plus a splash of water and soy sauce

I’m out for dinner tonight which is inconvenient but he above came in at a handy 167 calories so I’m hoping that I can find something suitably low carb that will fit within the calories!

Catbot · 04/03/2019 15:35

So far today I've had 1 1/2 ups of coffee and a whole 600g of minestrone soup which was less than 200 calories! Is that ok? If I'm being brutally honest I also had a a small left-over roast potato but I put the other one in the bin. I'm planning on having an omelette at tea time with veggies and a bit of ham.

I've read about using shakes as a meal replacement - has anyone done this?

Jacksback · 04/03/2019 17:53

ahhhhh another commuter has a bag of chips !!!

I am trying to ignore ( and not mug him or them ) and concentrate on my lovely salmon and veg planned for tonight
Hope you are all doing well xxx

DareDevil223 · 04/03/2019 18:34

Evening all. Glad the article was helpful to people. I highly recommend the book if you want more science and inspiration.

Back from my first day, it went really well, I am knackered, hungry and my head is spinning but I couldn't have been made more welcome. I have a directorate away day to negotiate on Wednesday and the dreaded buffet lunch or whatever the hotel provides. Hopefully there will be something that I can have!

Hope you all had a good day.

I'm still in orientation week. Had a bar for breakfast that I had left over from a diet now attempt then a feta cheese salad for lunch. Then epic.fail as met a friend for.coffee and she had already.got me a doughnut and a.skinny latte. Then had butter chicken and yoghurt salad for dinner. On the positive side, i ate only between 10 and 6. I'm building up to starting next monday!

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 04/03/2019 19:18

@Dark I am having wholemeal pasta and brown rice but measured in tablespoons rather than my previous cups Grin I have today spent my working from home day fitting in boiling pearl barley, spelt grains, brown rice, quinoa, wholemeal pasta, amaranth, and butter beans and bagging them up in 2 tablespoon portions, each labelled with contents and calories in freezer pencil (so I don't rub it off !)

I am feeling smug to be honest. . Ihave 24 X 4 portions of meats all individually wrapped, weighed, and labelled thanks to my friendly local butchers 'keto weekly delivery saver' plan and have changed my veg box to above ground veg and herbs only no fruit (bye bye 10p bruised cooking fruits bags toooooo tempting for non fast puds Blush ) I have also cancelled my monthly delivery of artisan bread mixes ... That hurt like a bitch. This is it. Doing this!

@Dare yay on first day goodness!!! Why not take hummus in a hurry and veggies. Make it super garlicky and no one will bother you in the afternoon Grin

Jacksback · 05/03/2019 08:17
