I've got lots to lose, I'm feeling lousy, so heavy, achy and sluggish and I can't bear to see myself in the mirror so I'm making a dramatic change. Losing a pound a week is not going to cut it.

I eat far too many carbs so I think this Mediterranean style of eating and the the drastic cut in calories will do me good. I've read the book, I've stocked up on the right foods and cleared out the crap. I haven't eaten yet but I'll have my first meal soon.

I know that it will be hard going at times but the promise of rapid weight loss is worth a bit of pain.

Wish me luck. I'll update on my progress as I go.

It’s only 2pm and I’ve already eaten 900cals!! I just feel so so hungry 😭 I’m gonna try to fast till 10am tomorrow and eat a very protein packed lunch. Don’t know what yet, any suggestion?

Jacksback try to hang in there. You’ll get a (big) loss soon. I know it’s very frustrating but you can do this 👍🏻👍🏻

PhoenixMama · 15/03/2019 13:33

Hi all - Can I join you? Planning on starting on Monday but will plan this weekend.

One question I have is does anyone know if this works when on anti-depressants? I'm on meds for PTSD, anxiety & depression and they make me gain weight and then make it basically impossible to lose. I'm hoping the severity of the 800 calories basically kicks them in the arse but also know I'll get discouraged if I don't see any difference!

And while typing that the book just got delivered! Smile

OhMrTumnus · 15/03/2019 14:51

@PhoenixMama welcome! Michael Mosley advises in the book that you should have a chat with your doctor before starting just to make sure.

Good luck!

DareDevil223 · 15/03/2019 15:32

I've just had sit down with a coffee and a square of extra dark chocolate. I've felt really tired and weak. 800 cals isn't very much when you're up before 6 and getting to grips with a new job. I'll try and soldier on...

NewFitMe · 15/03/2019 17:01

I hear you daredevil. I’m so tired and weak as well and I’m only on day 5. Had 1000 cals today and I’m trying not to eat anymore today. I was thinking I’m gonna try to follow this for at least 2 weeks, hopefully 4 and then maybe have 1-2 normal calorie days a week for couple of weeks. I hate being on a diet and fat 😭 why can’t I be one of those naturally skinny people???

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/03/2019 17:16

You can try having a little bit of salt, sometimes you can drink too much water and leave yourself a bit 'washed out' feeling- do you like bovril or miso? Hopefully the carb flu will be over soon.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 15/03/2019 17:23

Are you sure your scales are working jacks?

DareDevil223 · 15/03/2019 17:59

I'm 4 weeks in and I've been feeling fine , I think it's the longer day. I'm sticking with it as I am really starting to see a difference. I've done 4 weeks, I can do another 4!

thenewaveragebear1983 I'm waiting for my online shop to arrive and I actually ordered some miso so I might have some tonight, it'll be nice and warming too as I've been feeling the cold.

NewFitMe it's shit isn't it? Mind you, I ate my way to this size so it's on me to sort it Smile I'm looking forward to pan-fried trout and asparagus for dinner, so hungry!

OP posts:
Jacksback · 15/03/2019 18:49

Yes my scales are working x just a long plateau , will watch over the weekend but am off the 800 for a day or so , I find it much easier in the week.

MairzyDoats · 15/03/2019 19:43

Hi all, can I join you? I'm on day 5, lost 5lbs so far... Just had dinner though (fillet of smoked mackerel topped with a poached egg and celeriac chips) and I'm starting to feel hungry already. Also its Friday night and I really really want to have a g&t. Think I've got about 100 cals left, would it be so bad to have a single gin and slimline??

PhoenixMama · 16/03/2019 12:27

Thanks OhMrTumnus I checked with my GP & basically said have a go. They have no real idea why the meds make you gain weight so I'm guessing they're even less clued up about losing it on meds!

In a dream world Is lose 4 stone (but I'd then be at my tiniest from before kids but I'm assuming at 3. What's everyone else trying to lose?

DareDevil223 · 16/03/2019 13:31

I didn't cave yesterday, I had a really good sleep and when I weighed in this morning I'd lost another 1.2lbs so I'm at around a 19lb loss in 3 weeks and 5 days which is pretty great.

I think I can make it through the next 4 weeks, my appetite and eating habits have definitely changed and I'm loving the huge variety of veg that I'm eating. I've got a long way to go but the quick weight loss has been very motivating and I can see the difference already.

I hope everyone is having a good Saturday.

Hello all! I've been lurking on this thread for a about 2 weeks now and decided to silently join along with you all and am now on day 12; I have lost 10 pounds in total so far and am over the moon at my progress ! I'm now around 10.5 stones and want to lose another 12 pounds to get to my dream weight (pre- three babies/snack- loving husband !)

Delurking to say thank you for the thread op, and I will be carrying on for about another two weeks hopefully or until I lose the weight if it takes longer. I then intend to eat as normal but sensible amounts of junk, probably just weekend treats rather than every day, and to maintain my weight with the 5:2. 5:2 is 600 calories though a day , am I right or has it now changed ? I never ordered the book as I'm too impatient to wait for the book to arrive and spend time reading it !

Very well done to all the losers Grin (been dying to type that since reading the thread) and may we all keep winning at losing !!!

PhoenixMama · 16/03/2019 14:45

Well done DareDevil & Mrs Khan! It's so inspiring seeing how others get on!

DareDevil223 · 16/03/2019 15:13

@MsKhan

Well done, that's a fantastic loss. With the Fast 800 version of 5:2 you get 800 calories on the two fast days as it doesn't make a difference to the weight loss but does help with adherence. He recommends 6:1 if you just want to maintain your weight.

@MairzyDoats all are welcome here, I'm so thrilled at how this thread has taken off, I wouldn't have got this far on my own for certain.

@PhoenixMama thank you so much xx

Had anyone tried the 'pots for one's at Cook? They're all under 400 cals and around £4/5. Was thinking of using them for one of my meals a day (watching the carbs though!) Just to make my life easier during the week!

MsKhan · 16/03/2019 16:25

@DareDevil223 6:1 and 800 calories, even better and even more determined to carry on being good ! Wink

Having said that, my sister and her family are on the way to ours and dh has planned an evening of pizza and cards plus loads of junk- 😩 I have bought some oat biscuits for myself so I don't feel too sorry for myself Grin

NewFitMe · 16/03/2019 16:42

Argh I’m so annoyed 😤 I had a great day, felt so amazing. Come dinner time, I stupidly decided to make these potato things for the first time and I thought they’d be relatively low calorie so I decided to eat few. After I ate them I logged everything on mfp and damn, that whole meal was 600 calories!! So I’ve eaten 1200 calories today. So gutted. I should’ve calculated everything before hand because I didn’t feel like eating extra. Yesterday I felt crap but pushed through and today felt amazing. I’m so annoyed! But I learned from this and I’m not making the same mistake again! Tomorrow I need to have a really good day. I’m weighing in on Monday and I’ve defo eaten way too many carbstoday than I normally eat.

Sorry for the rant

MairzyDoats · 16/03/2019 17:15

But when you think about it @NewFitMe 1200 calories is nothing really.. Don't beat yourself up about it, just have a good day tomorrow. You won't have gained anything. Also, have you tried celeriac chips? Had them last night and they're fab.

DownRightAmazing · 16/03/2019 18:03

Down out in London for my today with the family. I skipped breakfast and we ate at a restaurant for dinner - it was delicious! But according to MFP over 1000 calories - that was for a 'naked' burger (no bun) and I swapped the chips for salad. It was very low carb so that's a saving grace. Heading home now and I think I'm going to try not to have anything else - so one giant meal in the middle of the day. I feel fine atm but don't know how I will feel in a few hours :/

NewFitMe · 16/03/2019 18:34

Mairzy celeriac chips sound amazing! Need to try them soon. I’m trying not to beat myself too much but about half way through the meal I thought I was satisfied but still ate everything. Should’ve stopped eaten then. I just don’t like the idea of throwing food away. Normally before I put food on my plate I measure it so I know how much I’m having before I eat. I know several hundred extra calories aren’t gonna make a big difference but I’m a bit of a perfectionist so it still annoyes me. Oh well, lesson learnt and time to move on!

DareDevil223 · 16/03/2019 19:03

I just had the most amazing, tasty and satisfying dinner. Duck breast with baby pak choi and mushrooms (stir fried with garlic, ginger and chilli) and roasted courgettes. I rendered the fat in the duck breast in a pan first and then roasted it so it had really crispy skin.

I didn't miss the carbs at all and it's nice not to have to be afraid of a bit of fat in the duck, the whole thing was under 300 calories. I ate it with chopsticks as well which somehow made it taste even nicer Grin

I have enough calories for some strawberries later.

OP posts:
MsKhan · 17/03/2019 01:56

Mmmm the duck sounds delish!

@NewFitMe aww don't worry too much about it. Tomorrow is another day. We all have hiccups along the way, sticking to it in the days that follow is the important part.

I am glad and very relieved to say that I survived that evening of pizza/chocolates/biscuits/crisps and had a dinner of some grilled chicken with a little bit of couscous and lettuce for dinner - sat down with everyone else to eat and didn't miss a thing ! Very proud of myself for not popping even one chip in my mouth Smile

Looking forward to weighing in on Friday.

Jacksback · 17/03/2019 11:24

Fell off the wagon since thur lunch and have now put on 3 lb 🤭 tbh some of meals I didn’t really enjoy , felt too much ,too heavy, too everything
So will be back on tomorrow
Been lurking , duck stir fry sounded delicious . Talking if delicious this months deliciosmagazine has 500 cal midweek meals section

cittigirl · 17/03/2019 11:28

It's hard isn't it Jack. I've not stuck to it either that well. Too many other things going on to focus. But I'm still at the same loss now so back on track and hope I can lose at least 1.5 lb to take me into the next stone down as that will be motivating.
