Hi, just started BSD today. I've spent the weekend reading the book. I have an underactive thyroid and I'm hoping this diet may help me. I lose weight so slowly and put it on so fast, all my excess weight is round my middle, so prime for developing diabetes. People with underactive thyroid are predisposed to developing diabetes. Anyway I have 6 weeks to my holiday so hoping to lose about 10 lbs by then. I have about 2 and half stone to lose, maybe 3. I've spent the weekend reading the book. Does anyone use meal replacements as suggested in the book - I have an egg allergy so was thinking of using meal replacement drinks for breakfast. If you do use them which ones do you use?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/05/2018 06:44

Morning everyone, welcome palmreader!

Palm I have a bullet blender, and I make my own shakes. I use almond milk, maca powder, a few frozen raspberries or cherries, and then some fat in the form of peanut butter, yogurt or avocado. I have recently started adding a wedge of cucumber or broccoli stalk to it as well. I have those most days as my breakfast. I never managed to find a meal replace shake that wasn’t really flavoured or sweetened, or expensive!

Good day for me yesterday. Lovely sunshine so we went to the beach. I did 21k steps (7,5km run in the morning)- and my food was ok too. No daytime snacking although I did eat a bit in the evening, plus had 2 glasses of wine and a g&t. Not bad considering it’s a holiday! Today we’re going out so it’s picnic salad lunch, and away From temptations so that will be fine.

I’m just having a coffee then going out for a nice early run along the coast. I could definitely get used to that view!
Have a great day!

Hi palmreader (wondering if you really are a fortune teller) I’ve never used meal replacements but there’s plenty of b’fast options without eggs. I rarely have b’fast but you don’t need to be traditional about it. There’s no reason why you can’t have foods that are more associated with lunch. Like his medi platter or cottage cheese with rasps & spinach (sounds weird but I love that). Or to up the protein things like sardines are good. bear has shakes but I’m pretty sure she makes her own but that’s something else non egg.
beat hope wales is sunny today @ you’re having a great holiday!
Confession time... I’m not weighing my food or pre-planning although my food is BSD friendly. I’ve also not been putting it into MFP. I also drank an awful lot of wine Sat night (or was it Fri?). So that’s two binges this week! It’s impossible for me just to have one glass... it’s none or loads! Also zero exercise Sat & Sun! Kids took the dog for a walk. So no surprise that my weight has crept up to last weeks which isn’t bad but given I’m only halfway towards my goal and I’m in week 6 it’s not great. Must do better!

Snowglobes · 28/05/2018 06:49

Oops cross post! And I mean bear enjoy your hols! Not ‘beat’! Wish I liked running....way too unfit. An early morning beach run sounds gorgeous!! How many calories are in your shakes bear pls?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/05/2018 07:08

I aim for about 200 calories- 250ml almond milk, 50g raspberries 50g cucumber, 10g maca and about 100 cals of fat.

At the end of my first week I have lost 10 lbs. very pleased with that result.
Amazing I see you had a little blip, don’t worry just climb back on board, I’m sure it will happen to me.
Planning to eat mindfully today at the bbq

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 28/05/2018 08:28

Hi Chris- thank you! It was definitely a blip - 2lb on at Sunday's weigh in and now 2lb off again. Phew! Well done on your 10lb loss.

I'm off for a cycle with DS1 in a minute. Normally cycle to work 3 days a week so going to try to do the equivalent amount this week (I work in a school).

thefishwhocouldwish · 28/05/2018 09:58

Well done chris it took me three weeks to lose that much!

Palm I sometimes use shakes, I am egg and soya intolerant which rules most out, so I use the Protein World Slender Blend shakes made with unsweetened almond milk. They end up about 240 calories, although you can make them with water. I use the nutribullet and they come out really thick and creamy. I have the chocolate and banana flavours but also the white choc and raspberry which I haven't started yet. They were 1/3 off in Boots a few weeks ago.

bear that sounds lovely. One of my favourite runs is Bournemouth to Poole along the sea front.

End of week 4 for me today and I am 6.2kg down so about 150g away from losing a stone. I am really pleased with that. I am going to eat carefully today in the hope of tipping the scales that extra bit tomorrow morning before I leave for the airport, although I know in reality that if I weigh myself at 6am it will be higher than if I wait until 9am even if I don't eat or drink anything. I think the freshly-awoken body is in a different state as my weight usually drops by about 300g in those first few hours if I try this at weekends. Well, mine does anyway!

I'll be in the lounge then on a plane for 7 hours but I've ordered vegan meals so that means fruit, fruit and more fruit in my experience. Then there's usually something made with tofu that I can't eat, and a bread roll that I never eat, and there's no cheese or butter or dessert so that keeps the calories down. Can you tell that I'm really looking forward to my in flight meals?! Emirates don't have a lacto-vegetarian option other than an Indian one and I like Indian food but have never been brave enough to risk it for breakfast.

My plan while I'm away is to save most of my calories for the evening meal and since the gym will be just downstairs I can go every day if I want to, as well as swimming in the pool. More than anything else though, I can't wait to see DH after more than 7 weeks apart. He'd better notice the difference, I was about 10lbs heavier last time he saw me!

ChocEggNoThanks · 28/05/2018 10:50

4lbs on over the weekend in spite of all the good advice I've had about not being greedy 3 meals a day. We are travelling a lot at weekends at the minute and I find it so difficult to stay on track when we are away from home and eating out twice a day. Back on strict 800 today.

PrimalLass · 28/05/2018 12:28

I had a tricky weekend too. Early starts and too much food plus milky coffees. Oh well.

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 28/05/2018 13:30

Had a lovely cycle with DS1 (apart from the stupid woman who tried to overtake us, realised she didn't have time and pulled in between us - luckily he slammed on his brakes and was just shaken).

Lots of cleaning done today so steps are up to 6000 already. Nice food too.

ponygirlcurtis · 28/05/2018 14:21

That sounds scary Amazing.

Enjoy your break fish and especially enjoy seeing your DH - 7 weeks is a long old time.

My parents have just returned from a 2-week holiday and made no reference to me being half a stone lighter than when they went away. I know it's showing (others have commented) and I deliberately wore a fitted vest rather than a baggy t-shirt as I suspected they wouldn't say anything. I know they noticed as I kept catching them looking me up and down. I expect I will soon find myself inundated with cakes/sweets/biscuits 'for the grandkids'. Hmm

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 28/05/2018 14:31

Bin any cakes etc that they give you and say thank you they really enjoyed them.

I'm just watching a documentary on Netflix called The Magic Pill. Very interesting and basically about the way we're all eating!

ponygirlcurtis · 28/05/2018 15:26

That sounds interesting Amazing. Oh I never eat them, they know I don't eat stuff like that since I went low-carb 4 years ago. It's unconscious sabotage, they are not even aware they are doing it. I dare to step out of my role as 'fat daughter' and it is uncomfortable for them! Tough.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/05/2018 19:03

Just checking in. Another glorious sunny day in wales. I’ve eaten reasonably well, all BSD friendly stuff, and only at mealtimes- although at mealtimes I am fully aware that I am eating more than normally I would. Doing lots of steps (17k today, including a 6.5km run). I’m not running tomorrow as my knee was quite painful this morning and I want to give it a day to recover.

My stomach feels really bloated and uncomfortable however, and is sticking out like I’m 5 Months pregnant, so god knows where that’s come from! Possibly from not having enough water today, or obviously something I’ve eaten has more carbs in than I realised.

Tomorrow- going to do a boat trip to Caldey island so another picnic salad lunch, and then Dh and I have a babysitter and a night out for a meal (I’m hoping for some lovely fish!)

Day 2 has been ok. I skipped breakfast, and saved calories for lunch and dinner. Had a long walk with my dog today. Drunk lots too. Measured my waist today, which wasn't good. DD 17 measured hers at the same time, I don't think my waist has ever been that small.
Back to work tomorrow, going to go out for a walk at lunchtime.

ChocEggNoThanks · 28/05/2018 23:57

Back on strict 800 she said. Then within hours friends arrived with food and booze and the rest is history.

Tomorrow. I am back on the wagon tomorrow!

Snowglobes · 29/05/2018 07:55

Ah chocegg it’s good to have fun though!
I’m thinking I need to get fitter as you all sound so energetic! a cycle ride would kill me primal despite it sounding lovely.
I had an 800cal day yesterday and meal planned (mostly) albeit had a glass of wine. Hard not to when DH is. Weight this am is 11.05 so exactly the same as last week. I’m 2lb off losing a stone! In 6 weeks. That’s not bad as I’ve had some big blips. Still another stone to go though. Weather gorgeous and kids all off school so planning picnic lunches and BBQ type dinners. What are you putting in your picnics bear? I’m thinking veg sticks, hummus and olives?
Enjoy the sunshine everyone!!

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 29/05/2018 08:13

I went and I’m back.

Been doing a lot of outdoor sports and needed carbs. I have even eaten jelly babies...

Anyway, I have only lost two pounds in 2 weeks and want to lose a half stone so I’m fully back on it!!

Does anyone ever have oats for breakfast?!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/05/2018 08:20

Snow i tend to do a smallish Tupperware box with leaves, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, red pepper, beetroot, ham and cheese. I’ve got a balsamic dressing at the moment but I do also like a Caesar (be mindful of added sugars). I’ve had some delicious Moroccan houmous this week too. This is pretty much what I eat every day, picnic or not. If we’re doing a day out I’ll also pack an additional box with veg sticks, cheese cubes etc which me and the dc then snack on if necessary.

I was up early this morning due to errant seagulls on our roof, so I’ve had a small breakfast of raspberries and total yoghurt. Ended up grazing on things like mini sausages and dry roasted nuts last night which, although they’re ok in moderation, are not ok in handfuls washed down with wine! I only had 5 hours sleep too- so today could be tricky. Hoping for a nice restaurant tonight with some delicious seafood, just been perusing the menus of the local recommendations.

Have a great day everyone!

My scales say my weekend off plan has put on 2lb of the 7 lost - I know this to be categorically untrue since I didn't go over my tdee any day and I was reasonably active but it will be water retention that should hopefully go quickly. Back on it from yesterday for the rest the week, meals are mostly planned out so should be OK.

Called I don't eat breakfast at all, but I am sure I have seen mention of overnight oats on here.

Enjoy your day bear, sounds just idyllic. 😊

DandelionAndBedrock · 29/05/2018 08:54

I’ve been pretty much on plan for the bank holiday weekend - went for brunch with DP and had Turkish baked eggs (lots of tomatoes, but the best on the menu). It was delicious but I couldn’t finish it, and felt really bloated for the rest of the day.

Day 3 of maintaining my weight - I want a whoosh! I’ve noticed that my weight loss slows dramatically if I skip a gym class (it wasn’t my fault this week - it was cancelled!).

thereinmadnesslies · 29/05/2018 09:46

Aargh I seem to be stuck on 12st 0.5 - I desperately want to be in the 11 stone bracket. I’ve been good all weekend apart from one mistake with an iced skinny latte from Caffè Nero - I assumed it would be the same cals as a hot latte but they add sugar syrup to it Angry

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 29/05/2018 10:55

Called - I have oats for breakfast most days. I've lost 9lb in 10 days.

PrimalLass · 29/05/2018 14:37

All I've eaten today is cake mix🙁
