Anyone doing it and can give tips please? I know it's where you only eat in an 8 hour window but wondered if there's anything else I should know?

Grin littlemiss That's great!

I have lost another pound - was hoping for a bit more after my mega-fastSad but I am still motivated.

Have taken all my measurements though and have lost 2cm from my stomach, hips and back.

RitaMills · 25/05/2017 09:38

Thanks for posting that link Nomojo2016, I've been lying in bed watching the videos all morning. It's great to be able to explain why this works when you get the people rolling their eyes at you calling it a fad diet.

My mum has been doing this along with me, it's her first time trying this and she's just been on the phone to me having lost as well, she's also noticed she's not as bloated and more energised in the morning, I've sent her the link for the Dr Fung videos.

If you are combing this with LCHF what does your typically daily menu look like? I'm a complete carb junkie and would love to start cutting down but I'm a bit of a creature of habit when it comes to my (carb heavy) food choices.

ElspethFlashman · 25/05/2017 11:14

Nomojo are you doing 16:8? Or just mega fasts?

Nomojo2016 · 25/05/2017 14:52

Elspeth I'm doing 16:8 every day but try and sometimes go longer. So, I finish eating at 7pm and then go till 11am the next day but if I feel ok, I just keep going and eat when I'm hungry. I'm just trying to mix it up with the other types of fasting. I really want to try 36hours next but I doubt I will do any longer than that.

Rita I def feel less bloated too.

Daily menu will be something like this:

9ish - coffee with unsweetened almond milk or a bulletproof coffee (fills you up for ages)

12-2.30ish - lunch of large salad with chicken, feta cheese, boiled egg, celery, tomatoes, avocado OR homemade veg soup another coffee with almond milk

6pm - Something like salmon/chicken/steak with salad again and roasted sweet potato wedges and other veg
Square of 85% dark chocolate (but only if I really want it) and decaff coffee as before.

I am finding the more I eat like this, the less I want food. I used to feel tired and shattered all the time. A coffee and a chocolate biscuit would make me feel so tired, I wanted to curl up in a corner.

If I really really wanted some carbs or a piece of cake, I would have (as I did last week) but the whole point is to get to a place where your body is depleted of all it's stored sugar so starts burning fat instead of sugar.

I'm doing this for health as well as my huge belly . Type diabetes runs in my family and I was am the biggest chocaholic going.

Nomojo2016 · 25/05/2017 14:55

I try not to eat between meals but if I do feel hungry, I'll have some nuts or a piece of cheese. Tbh though, I'm just finding I'm not hungry. It's carbs and sugar that make me hungry-fat fills me up.

I also have 2litres sparkling water each day and herbal/green tea.

Nomojo2016 · 25/05/2017 14:59

Rita....have been doing the same with the videos!

We should start a fungfan club Grin

ElspethFlashman · 25/05/2017 15:03

As a curiosity, why don't you do 5:2 then? Sounds like it's what you're naturally heading towards anyway.

littlemissM92 · 25/05/2017 15:52

What's in the bullet coffee and does it taste nice.. I don't have a nutri bullet to blend just a smoothie maker and nespresso machine??

Nomojo2016 · 25/05/2017 17:17

Elspeth I could do that, I have tried it before - I'm just experimenting with it at the moment.
Reading up on the science, a longer liquid fast is best for getting rid of all the sugar in your system. I suppose with the 5:2, there is just less food but over a longer window. I no expert at all, just experimenting and enjoying learning about it all.

littlemiss here is an article on bulletproof coffee There are lots of articles if you google it, and a few slightly different recipes. There is also special "bulletproof" coffee you can order but I just use my nespresso pods-it has to be good quality coffee, not instant!

This guy puts a lot of stuff in his but I just put a couple of tbsp grassfed butter in mine. Am sure a smoothie maker or a normal blender would be fine. My friend's husband puts coconut oil in too and he has lost loads of weight. I don't think it would be sensible to drink it though if you are eating carbs and sugar still. It would just get stored as fat - it's a drink for when you are fasting and have no sugar in your system.

Whitecovers · 25/05/2017 20:51

The last couple of nights have been hard. My youngest has been eating from a tub of pringles and I was dying to snatch it from his hands Blush

Nomojo2016 · 26/05/2017 17:55

How's everyone doing?

No weight loss for me this morning but I prob shouldn't weigh myself every day anyway...I did 7pm-till 1.30pm today - looking forward to dinner!

Whitecovers did you resist those pringles?? Grin

theresamustgo · 26/05/2017 23:13

I dare not weigh myself until I am confidently there has been some change, am still finding it an ok diet to stick to. Am trying to be low carb, but not sure as am getting enough protein. Had a good bacalao dish tonight though...,and so much broccoli I am turning green!

RitaMills · 27/05/2017 08:35

It is very hard not to just jump on the scales every morning, I'm guilty of it myself. In theory the best thing to do is hide the scales and pick a day to weigh yourself... easier said than done.

Still sticking to mine, although I did almost take a swig of DP ginger beer last night, it was still really hot here and it was just sitting there all cold and inviting... resisted temptation though.

I'm feeling really hungry at the moment, today is the first time I've been ravenous for food (and it's only 8.30 😖) I know today is my relax day but I still usually complete my fast to 11am. I'm going to go in for a shower and see if that occupies me, if not I'm just going to make a roll and sausage and just have a chilled out day and not worry too much. To be fair I'm down another 2lb since my 4lb loss so if I cheat today I'll get right back on it tomorrow.

theresamustgo · 27/05/2017 08:58

If I had a scales I would weigh myself all the time, but it is 50p in Boots for me each time!

Nomojo2016 · 27/05/2017 09:31

I'm up half a pound today :( so am going to stop weighing myself every day - it's not helping.

Once a week for me now!

Rita I'm feeling hungry too - got woken at 6.45 this morning but just pottering around. Only had water so far but going to make myself a creamy bulletproof coffee shortly Brew

timetomoveon · 27/05/2017 09:57

Oh I'm glad to find this thread. I've been doing 16:8 since the middle of January and I've lost 13lb so far.
I started off thinking I would just do it during the week and then have weekends off but by the second week I wasn't hungry in the mornings so I just didn't bother.
I sometimes don't fast - if I've got something social on then I'll try to leave it a little later to have lunch but I don't over obsess about it. I could have lost more I'm sure if I'd been more disciplined about it but I'm happy with how I'm doing.
It really truly feels like an actual lifestyle change rather than a diet.

theresamustgo · 27/05/2017 11:02

Timetomove that sounds really good, just what I am hoping for. It is amazing how much we eat just because it is expected. I do find it a little hard with the DC though....like no one has had breakfast yet this morning because I am not motivated and they have not pestered me! Not sure they should have it forced on them though!
Still really good so far.,,,but the test will come in the weighing in a couple of weeks!

Nomojo2016 · 27/05/2017 12:06

Hi timetomoveon Smile. Well done on your weight loss!!

How you are using the diet now sounds perfect to me. I'm not massively overweight - just about a 10lbs off would be perfect for me but I have a huge tummy which I've never been able to shift with any diet.

So, all of the research I've done on this makes perfect sense. My tummy is due to too much sugar in my diet. But once I've lost the weight and shifted my tummy fat, I'd like to get to a place where I can just maybe do 16:8 every day (don't think I'll ever go back to eating breakfast tbh) but have a a piece of cake/chocolate if I want it.

I think I always have to be careful with sugar though, it's like a drug for me. I'm 11 days into HFLC with no sugar (apart from a couple of incidents with cake & naan breadGrin) but I feel free of the constant need to graze, always looking for the next sugary snack.

Constantly reading up on this and watching videos (becoming a bit of a geek over it) but it's so fascinating and truly eye-opening.

Eolian · 29/05/2017 11:54

I'm doing this 5 days a week at the moment and it's going well. I'm not weighing myself but feel lighter. I'm really surprised at how easy I'm finding it tbh. For me, breakfast seems to kick me into eating mode for the day, probably because as for most people, breakfast tends to be sweet and carb-heavy.
It's also so unobtrusive and requires no weighing, thinking, planning, buying particular foods or even avoiding particular foods. My family haven't even noticed I'm not eating breakfast!

Nomojo2016 · 29/05/2017 17:50

Hi Eolian Smile

It is amazing how much lighter you feel - a friend who is a nutritionist told me that Carbs make you hold onto water so your body feels more "puffy" (nice!)

I'm finding it easier and easier, I have the odd moment when I want to grab a biscuit or some toast in the morning but I just try and hang on until the craving passes and it always does.

I found this brilliant site. Have been spending a lot of time reading all the success stories Grin

How is everyone else getting on?

Nomojo2016 · 30/05/2017 17:38

I'm feeling really tired today. I'm on day 15 of no sugar and could just scarf down something really chocolatey at the moment. Sparkling water and macadamias not cutting it right now.

Am bloody determined to beat this sugar addiction though. Another six weeks to go! Hmm

Giddyaunt18 · 30/05/2017 18:35

Hi all, can I join you? I've been trying to lose 9lbs starting 6 weeks ago. I've lost 7 so far more or less going the NoS diet of no snacking, sweet or seconds apart from some on Sat and Sun. I experimented this weekend by skipping breakfast to avoid any gain after a few wines at the weekend etc. Anyway, it worked and I haven't had breakfast since friday now and have already lost an extra pound. I realised this actually is a 'thing' people do after littlemiss (waves) mentioned this thread. i'm off work this week so it's easier to sleep later and wait until after 12 to eat. I've been going from 7pm until then so I guess that's 17:7. I feel great and have decided to aim for 9st 4 which is now 5lbs away.Grin

Giddyaunt18 · 30/05/2017 19:10

Nomojo do you like liquorice? I have discover liquorice tea and it is naturally sweet but contains no sugar. It's made from the wood/root of the liquorice plant so it's not black or sticky! Grin

littlemissM92 · 30/05/2017 19:35

Hi giddy Grin

PeanutButterIsEverything · 30/05/2017 19:42

Hi there

Decided to give this a go starting today!

Have lost 1.5 stone a few years ago with 5:2 which I found reasonably easy but tried it again this January and couldn't hack it - still breastfeeding my them 13mo and my appetite was just too big!

I still have another stone of baby weight I'd like to lose after shifting quite a bit of it with mfp last year and I think 16:8 might be a good one to try as I hated calorie counting but can't hack full on fasts anymore. When I was breastfeeding more, I just got too hungry and DS has only just started sleeping through at 18 months (fingers crossed) and you just can't fast when you're up and down half the night!

Didn't eat til 12 today (from 6 last night) and I felt absolutely dreadful- really fuzzy headed and woolly and then I felt queasy after my lunch (roll with cheese & ham and an apple). Hope that feeling goes once I get used to it!
