Ok, I know we technically haven't finished 2022 yet as there is still the Christmas Concert for some (my ds is not taking part due to his conservatoire concert) but NYMT have released details of their 2023 season & auditions here

Glad to hear that everyone is enjoying their auditions so far. We have finally managed to submit the video so roll on the 5th.

Mumster40 · 22/01/2023 18:58

Hello! First time NYMT parent here. Amazingly, my daughter has a recall for Kiss Me Kate and Armchair. Could anyone who has experienced this in previous years please let me know what happens at the recalls? Do they get sent material to learn? Songs to learn? And if so how long do they have to prepare? Appreciate any help or advice. Many thanks.

aplo · 22/01/2023 19:20

@Mumster40 well done to your DD! You will be sent material for both shows about a week before the recall and that normally includes tracks to help learn the material (especially for brand new shows). There will be a document with suggestions based on age/ casting about what to prepare. The auditions for each show are very similar to the first audition but slightly shorter in time, there are normally three sessions in a day and your daughters auditions should be timetabled back to back so morning/ afternoon or afternoon/ evening.
Any more questions just ask but meanwhile congratulations to your DD!

dancingclassicist · 22/01/2023 20:28

Hi friends,

Congrats to all those with recalls!! Glad to see results coming quickly. DD 18 has been really involved with her local theatre group but will finish in July so may want NYMT for summer, but right now is not her main priority.

She’s auditioning 4th Feb in London so still got a while!! Can anyone tell us whether the dance was pure dance like learn a routine, or whether there was also the improv/creative dance they did online last year? x

Mumster40 · 22/01/2023 21:44

Thank you so much for this. It’s really helpful! Good luck to everyone.

minimits · 22/01/2023 21:51

Hope everyone had a great weekend-congrats Mumster 40! They’re so friendly at recalls-she’ll have a great time! Good luck to everyone waiting for results…🫰

DS auditioned today. Had a good day, no disasters, says it was enjoyable and it went 'fine'. I don't know what that means but just have to cross fingers.

DS is a reasonably good mover for a boy who doesn't identify as a dancer (if that makes any sense). He had to have a few practices to get the steps but he thinks he got there. Hope that is helpful for anyone trying to gauge the standard.

@dancingclassicist there was a choreographed routine and a bit of improvising to music too.

Biscuitsneeded · 22/01/2023 21:57

@Mumster40 Congratulations to your DD. She'll enjoy the recalls, I'm sure. Post any questions on here and I'm sure someone will have an answer for you.

Mcmumager · 22/01/2023 22:46

Glad everyone had fun today. Ds has finally uploaded his song today!
He’s undecided as to what to sing next week.

He can’t remember from 2020 whether they all got to sing their full song. Do they cut anyone at first audition or do they get to finish.

thank you 😊

allhailthebrain · 22/01/2023 23:44

Hi @Triflefan - pull up a seat in the waiting room! @minimits will no doubt be waiting for you with a glass of something!

Hope they both get good news - good luck boys!

Alakazam8 · 23/01/2023 06:01

Hi @Mumster40 welcome to the waiting room! (After recalls) How old is your Dd?

From what I’ve heard so far they do finish the whole song and then get given notes on it @Mcmumager . I’m sure others will know more.

Mumster40 · 23/01/2023 06:40

@Biscuitsneeded thank you so much!
@Alakazam8 she is 13.
@Mcmumager DD finished her whole song.

Biscuitsneeded · 23/01/2023 07:21

@mcmumager I think if his song isn't too long he will sing it all. They would only cut if someone was going way over the time by whole minutes, or if the audition was absolutely full with every last place sold on that day, which would mean they had time pressures to hear everyone and had to impose the 2.5 minutes.

DS.said his entire older group did their song well. I suppose by that age they know they enjoy performing and are there because they want to be. How on earth do they choose who to recall?

Alakazam8 · 23/01/2023 08:06

Hi minimumster my dd is 13 too. She was in showcase last year and is really hoping to get in again this year, she loved it last year- secretly I don’t mind either way this time as she has a lot of other things on this year. Well done to your dd

manicmumsday · 23/01/2023 12:32

My DS (14) auditioned yesterday too, after a break of a few years because he wasn’t confident enough to do online auditions. He’s also doesn’t identify as a dancer (love that expression @Biscuitsneeded ) but says he managed to keep up.

Biscuitsneeded · 23/01/2023 12:50

Oh yay @manicmumsday ! I'm so glad your DS came back to it. Fingers crossed for good news....

Excellent news! 🍷
Hi @minimits

manicmumsday · 23/01/2023 12:52

Thanks @Biscuitsneeded. Whatever happens next, he really enjoyed yesterday so we’re happy.

Mcmumager · 23/01/2023 13:29

Thank you for the updates on songs- will pass the news on.

hopefully news will be quick again for those who auditioned at the weekend. I’ve not seen anyone mention getting recalled for Merrily unless I’ve missed it? My ds can’t do that one but interesting recalls seem to be for the other two.

Biscuitsneeded · 23/01/2023 13:37

I thought that too, @Mcmumager . Maybe that one is a smaller cast and mainly the older ones, and we just haven't heard of anyone yet? I think once the news from this weekend comes out things might be clearer.

Alakazam8 · 23/01/2023 15:12

I was wondering the same about Merrily..maybe it’s just that they are wanting older kids for that than we have here? Hope those that auditioned at the weekend hear this week as happened last week…

manicmumsday · 27/01/2023 11:57

Hello, has anyone had any recall news yet after the auditions last weekend? (we haven’t)

minimits · 27/01/2023 11:59

Nothing here!

manicmumsday · 27/01/2023 14:00

Just got an email - no recall for DS this time. Good luck to all the other auditionees from last weekend - hope they get better news!

Comefromaway · 27/01/2023 14:12

Ds is planning on recording an audition and putting in his creatives application soon but he has a dilemma.

He is starting to get amateur, but paid work playing for various shows and he feels that although NYMT was fantastic for him last year in terms of contacts and experience for his CV as well as the resulting increase in his skill level, he is thinking that really, he needs to be doing things where they pay him rather than the other way around.
