Ok, I know we technically haven't finished 2022 yet as there is still the Christmas Concert for some (my ds is not taking part due to his conservatoire concert) but NYMT have released details of their 2023 season & auditions here

mailchi.mp/nymt/nymt-2022-season-announcement-5919443?fbclid=IwAR2nM_B-gUzYyvEzUTMDFUt2c4RiuW5ElKjmdxG6qJIgIPS2W6owl8GY7NY

Good luck everyone whose dc are applying this year

I wouldn't worry too much about the video skills! It's all about the singing and how your DD tells the story. She will really enjoy the audition day - it's great fun in itself.

Comefromaway · 22/11/2022 16:30

Just a heads up for anyone involved in the Christmas concert. They have announced 48 hour train strikes for 16th-17th December

OP posts:
Biscuitsneeded · 22/11/2022 16:59

Oh for God's sake! That's going to be interesting then...

Alakazam8 · 22/11/2022 21:05

Wow I’m so glad I didn’t take the risk and say she could go!! Hope those going manage to find their way there.

sleepisoverrated1 · 23/11/2022 21:24

Just had to cancel DS’s place for the Christmas Concert - he’s gutted as was so looking forward to seeing everyone! Just can’t get there with the train strikes. Also £80 of tickets down the drain 😫

Comefromaway · 23/11/2022 21:27

I think this will affect a lot of people. We’d have driven if need be like we did for Kingston but not everyone can do that.

Comefromaway So sorry about this. My ds would be heartbroken too. We're in Essex so can drive but will be a massive pain in the arse.

Going back to the summer season I have been told by Jeremy that Merrily We roll along has no string parts so for the string players that reduces the places even more (ds is a violist). 😬

Comefromaway · 24/11/2022 10:08

It is sleepover who is affected. My ds has already pulled out because he is playing for the conservatoire Christmas carol concert the night before and for the Northern Musical Theatre orchestra the night after.

The standard orchestration for Merrily is

BASS 1
DRUMS/PERCUSSION BELLS , BONGO , GOURD , RACHET , SCRAPER , TAMBOURINE , TEMPLE BLOCKS , TRIANGLE , TYMPANI , VIBRAPHONE , WOOD BLOCK , XYLOPHONE 1
SYNTHESIZER 1
STAGE PIANO 1
PIANO 2 1
REED 1 ALTO SAXOPHONE , FLUTE , PICCOLO 1
REED 2 ALTO SAXOPHONE , CLARINET , FLUTE 1
REED 3 CLARINET , ENGLISH HORN , OBOE , TENOR SAXOPHONE 1
REED 4 BARITONE SAXOPHONE , BASS CLARINET , BASSOON , CLARINET 1
TROMBONE 1
TRUMPET 1 1
TRUMPET 2 1
TRUMPET 3

Kiss Me Kate is

1 Piano-Conductor
27 Libretto-Vocal Book
1 Reed 1
1 Reed 2
1 Reed 3
1 Reed 4
1 Horn
1 Trumpet 1
1 Trumpet 2
1 Trombone
2 Percussion 1&2
1 Harp
1 Guitar
1 Keyboard
3 Violin 1&2 Act 1
3 Violin 1&2 Act 2
1 Viola
1 Cello
1 Bass

But don't forget sometimes they expand (eg there is no real harp in Chess but they had one) and Jordan re-orchestrated the overture.

OP posts:
disorganisedmummy · 24/11/2022 16:24

Bloody hell, only 1 viola for Kiss Me 😬

Comefromaway · 24/11/2022 16:26

That is just the officially available parts remember. They might choose to double or they might (as they did for Chess) put some keyboard instrumentation back onto instruments.

And who knows how Armchair will be orchestrated

OP posts:
disorganisedmummy · 24/11/2022 16:37

Jeremy has said and I quote "I imagine there will be strings in Armchair."

Comefromaway · 24/11/2022 17:53

I imagine there will be!

Any inside info on the locations for the shows next year?

Comefromaway · 24/11/2022 21:02

😮

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 24/11/2022 21:04

To be honest even if I knew I wouldn’t say on here. We are all a bit too identifiable. I’m sure most of you who have young people involved in last year’s shows can easily work out who I am (or at least who Ds is).

Comefromaway · 26/11/2022 21:10

However, on a drama Facebook group NYMT have advertised auditions for shows in London and Leicester Curve.

OP posts:
Biscuitsneeded · 29/11/2022 21:24

Well, entirely characteristically my DS hasn't recorded a song and hasn't booked an audition slot for NYMT. Anyone out there got a date booked and a video uploaded?

Comefromaway · 29/11/2022 21:41

Ds is going to do his after Christmas. But musician deadlines are later anyway.

Hes busy rehearsing for a movie musicals concert with a large orchestra.

OP posts:
doesanybodyhaveamap · 29/11/2022 21:59

Ours is in - well the performer one at least. Will sort musician application at Christmas.

Comefromaway · 29/11/2022 22:50

Has she got a preference if she were to be offered both?

OP posts:
doesanybodyhaveamap · 30/11/2022 19:48

I think it will depend on the shows

Biscuitsneeded · 18/12/2022 14:45

Lovely NYMT concert last night. Had really missed it over the last couple of years. They sounded glorious and it felt properly Christmassy. Now... bring on auditions 2023!

dancingclassicist · 28/12/2022 12:56

Hello everyone, how are self-tapes going? I’m trying to book DD audition and on the webpage it says there are no London auditions on Saturday 11th Feb. However, it is an option on the application form. Anyone else seen this?
