Ok, I know we technically haven't finished 2022 yet as there is still the Christmas Concert for some (my ds is not taking part due to his conservatoire concert) but NYMT have released details of their 2023 season & auditions here

I know when they originally had planned to do KMK in 2020 that was to involve a lot of dance so that could explain the intensity. I’m sure not all roles and all shows will have the same requirements so if people aren’t as dancey don’t let it put you off.

Both mine are happy with it all and both agree that the dancing was intense. Dd especially loved being back in the room for auditions and said that the standard of singing in her group was amazing. She said at least two people made her cry with their songs (in a really good way!)

best of luck to all those whose auditions are still to come, it was lovely seeing all the happy smiling faces coming out today, I haven’t yet met anyone who hasn’t enjoyed their time at an NYMT audition.

I think @Mcmumager is right. KMK will be a dance-heavy show, and for that reason the dance audition will be demanding, so that they can find the real stars. However, there is no expectation that everybody will be able to dance that well, especially for the other shows. They will just want to see everybody having fun, smiling and giving it their best shot.

I forgot to say, whoever it was that asked about the musical theatre schools summer courses, mine did the ArtsEd one last year and had a great time, really enjoyed it!

Glad to hear that auditions have kicked off well. Hopefully it's still getting the numbers, probably more concentrated around certain locations. We are having to travel a good way for ours. It will be interesting to see which creatives attend which ones...

Lovely to hear of all those going for it, remember newbies that your kids have exactly the same chance as ours, they cast on talent at NYMT not 'who they know already' 🙂

Does anyone know if the younger group did the same routine etc as the older group? Or was the younger group slightly different?

DC is feeling "meh". It was her first time in with the older group and she really let that knock her confidence (as aplo says, there were some amazingly talented young people there...).

Anyway, not long to wait.

Not sure (@aplo might know?) but don't worry about it; they have always been keen to point out that it really doesn't matter if you're not a dancer - not everyone needs to be!

How long before they hear if they are through to the final auditions? X

They said 1-2 weeks

I can confirm that the dance was different in both groups- equally fast and fun but younger group was definitely easier steps and both mine felt it was much more a test of just going for it and trying to give it your best shot than nailing every step (or at least they hope that was the case 🤣)

also from previous years different creatives are at all auditions so dances will be different because of that and not all the shows are going to have the same amounts of dance.

Did they give any updates on creatives for the shows?

@Mcmumager some of the creatives are named on the 2023 shows page on the website if that helps!

You can never second guess them. Mine, we thought, was being seen for. the purposes of a dance heavy role last year - turned out to be the absolute opposite! In a good way!

So my ds audition date will need to change as they didn’t get enough interest in the venue. Just need to work out a new plan tonight- complicated as I’m away the next two weekends but we will sort something.

Bymt haven’t announced any shows yet which is quite late for them.

@Mcmumager which one were you going to? That's annoying! We wanted to go to Leeds but another commitment popped up and we've had to change the plan!

@Mcmumager I'm guessing you live somewhere in the East Midlands? If your DS can get to Cambridge on a train this coming Sunday I can easily pick him up from the train station and drop him at the audition venue, and return him there afterwards. I promise I'm not an axe murderer - lots of people on this thread know me and DS!

Aww @Biscuitsneeded that is very kind of you and I can tell you are far from axe murderer from your fab advice over the past few years. It’d be 3 hours on train or driving so a bit too far.

He is going to go to Leeds the following weekend- I’m away but a couple of his friends are going and it’s a city and building he’s been to before so all is good 😊 .

@Mcmumager I'm glad you've found a solution and he can go to the same audition as his friends. Although now you'll have to update the 'who's auditioning when' list again!😆

Ds is virtually next door to the Leeds venue.

I see Jeremy is retiring from NYMT at the end of this season. They’re advertising for a new Chief Exec. BYMT had a new CEO this year, so that maybe why no shows announced yet?

He retired from his day job so to speak at Westminster Under School last summer so it figures.

He is such a lovely, lovely person. There were some difficulties last year over something and he just has the interests of the young people at heart 100%

It's such a shame that his retirement seems to have meant NYMT have lost the venue for auditions etc - it adds countless time and cost when coming from the north to get all the way to some of the others they've been using.

I hope they find someone new and epic!

I see Lewis Cornay is writing a show for BYMT...
