Ok, I know we technically haven't finished 2022 yet as there is still the Christmas Concert for some (my ds is not taking part due to his conservatoire concert) but NYMT have released details of their 2023 season & auditions here

mailchi.mp/nymt/nymt-2022-season-announcement-5919443?fbclid=IwAR2nM_B-gUzYyvEzUTMDFUt2c4RiuW5ElKjmdxG6qJIgIPS2W6owl8GY7NY

Good luck everyone whose dc are applying this year

Why won't it let me edit.. 23 not 2023 - easily confused this year 😂

Biscuitsneeded · 14/01/2023 06:50

Can confirm that @doesanybodyhaveamap is well under the age of 2023. Better start practising your slithering!😀

I think there is often a show which has a higher proportion of older participants, just because there is often also a show that takes more of the younger ones! They're trying to ensure a fair spread of ages across all the shows. And if you do a 'serious' musical it needs adult or near adult performers, mainly. It will then seem that that show is getting more social media coverage because those performers are of an age to have their own social media presence and will post their own stuff! If they are 18+ and serious about performing, many of them will have their eyes on their future career and it will do them no harm at all to post that they are in a show directed by XXX, under the musical direction of YYY and the choreography of ZZZ. Or that they got a positive mention in a review. The younger NYMT participants are doubtless not yet using Twitter etc and (thank God) rightly focused on just having the time of their life and being part of something amazing. And the size of the cast is often, again, just dictated by the show or the venue. The biggest show may not always be the one with the oldest performers. In fact it's been a recent development to have one summer show with a slightly larger cast - it wasn't always the model. Finances, venue size, dance content of the show probably all affect the size of the cast.
Well that was a lot of words. I think I'm just advocating for not overthinking it all! If your DC gets a place, regardless of which show or if it's the workshop, they should feel proud and look forward to a great experience.

Mcmumager · 14/01/2023 09:03

Has anyone with a January audition has an email about encouraging others to audition- wonder if it’s just low numbers in our selected venue? Hoping it doesn’t get cancelled.

Biscuitsneeded · 14/01/2023 09:55

Which venue are you, McMumager? It's tricky because so many kids come to it through word of mouth, so it needs some young people in an area to be part of it first and sell it to others.

Mcmumager · 14/01/2023 10:25

@Biscuitsneeded at the Leicester Curve. It’s not very local to us but none of them are so opted for this as easy to get to and ds enjoyed his first NYMT audition there. So glad it’s back to face to face this year.

DalekFan · 14/01/2023 10:47

Thanks @minimits @Biscuitsneeded for your wisdom. GSA is about 10 minutes from us. We went to their open event in November, and is definitely on our radar for summer. Mountview do a 3 week summer boot camp which sounds amazing also.

Decisions, decisions! Just need more time (and money!!) to fit everything in.

Biscuitsneeded · 14/01/2023 15:44

@Mcmumager I hope that venue goes ahead for you. Imagine it would be more of a pain to go elsewhere. Can you persuade a few performing friends to go with your DS for the day?!

Coniger · 14/01/2023 16:51

Another one to add to the audition list, DD(11) on Feb 5th, as a first timer. I didn’t receive a confirmation from NYMT after I booked (and paid for) the audition - is this normal or is it because I haven’t sent in the recording yet?

yodaforpresident · 14/01/2023 19:25

This is normal - always throws me a bit, too! Good luck to your DS on the 5th, and good luck to those auditioning tomorrow!

Alakazam8 · 14/01/2023 21:35

Love this thread it’s so supportive each year..

Montimom · 14/01/2023 22:37

Good luck to everyone auditioning tomorrow @aplo @sleepisoverrated1 and @doesanybodyhaveamap hope all your DC have the best fun day and fingers and toes crossed for all of them 😘

Biscuitsneeded · 14/01/2023 22:38

@yodaforpresident I think you should receive an email about a week before the audition confirming timings and location etc. If that doesn't come, get in touch with them, but if you've paid, all should be good. When you submit a video you could always check that they are expecting your DC!

Biscuitsneeded · 15/01/2023 08:32

Hello to everyone who has added their DC in the last 24 hours.

For today, BREAK A LEG to the DC of @aplo @doesanybodyhaveamap and @sleepisoverrated1 ! Hope they all have a really fun time, and come out happy and feeling they have shown themselves off at their best.

Please report back!

Biscuitsneeded · 15/01/2023 08:37

@Comefromaway
I meant to say earlier I the week, when I said it probably wasn't helpful to think in terms of aiming for a particular show, I really meant stage performers. I think it's different for young people applying for the creative mentored positions such as assistant MD, assistant choreo, assistant director etc, because of course these are positions they want to do to support their training as young adults, and it makes sense of course for your DS to try to have a different mentor and a different style of show to get to grips with. Has your DS sent his application already? Any indications on when the would-be assistants might hear?

Alakazam8 · 15/01/2023 10:41

Good Luck to all auditionees today. Hope they have a great time

minimits · 15/01/2023 10:50

Looking forward to hearing about everyone’s auditions today! Break a leg x

NotEvenSlightlyReasonable · 15/01/2023 13:00

Good luck to everyone auditioning today! I hope they all enjoy it.

Coniger · 15/01/2023 16:08

Hope it went well for everyone today!

sleepisoverrated1 · 15/01/2023 19:11

Round 1 done! Everyone was super-friendly, DS is exhausted (he says the racing was intense!) and now we wait! Whatever the outcome, he's had a great time. Good luck to the next group!

sleepisoverrated1 · 15/01/2023 19:39

We're both tired; it was the dancing that was intense, not the racing 🤣

Montimom · 15/01/2023 19:39

Racing????

Montimom · 15/01/2023 19:40

Ha ha ok dancing is ok, racing not so much 😂
