Ok, I know we technically haven't finished 2022 yet as there is still the Christmas Concert for some (my ds is not taking part due to his conservatoire concert) but NYMT have released details of their 2023 season & auditions here

DS has applied for an out of London one, but NYMT have posted to say that some availability is low. You may have seen it already, but they've also said you can send the tape in separately if time is an issue, and even use last year's if their voice hasn't changed as it's not for audition purposes, just for reference. Hope you get your audition sorted in a convenient location!

Agree with this- they have said the most important is the audition workshop song so I would try to focus on that and just send a quick video in asap if you are worried about getting a slot.

I suspect there originally was a London audition on 11th Feb and it is either full now so has been taken off the website, or it has moved. I know the Bristol date had to change. Ds has finally booked his slot but hasn't recorded a song. Yesterday they send out a tweet saying you could do that and send the song link separately, so that's what he's done. He's been working a lot over the Xmas hols and we are also visiting family and he hasn't really had a time or space to record anything yet...

Hi - DD had a great time last year so we have booked her in for another audition this year and this past year has also meant that her 15 year brother is going to audition too. They are very very very different from each other but have put them in on the same audition date in London. What do they have to prepare for the actual audition - I forgot to write all the info down. TIA x

@Coniger nothing to prepare except a MT song - which can be the same as the one you upload. Just don't forget to take the sheet music to the audition for the pianist. The workshop auditions are great fun - I'm so glad they are back to live, in person first rounds.

Me too! DC did not enjoy virtual auditions and is definitely not at her best on line..

Happy 2023 to you theatre parents! Let's hope it brings good news for our kids. I know quite a few of them are really not kids any more but it's the easiest thing to call them! Anyone got an NYMT or BYMT audition soon?

DD doing her NYMT audition on 15th Jan. Also has lock GCSE's and a drama scholarship application to prepare for so I'm definitely not doing 'dry January'

Joining the thread, if I may. DD12 is doing BYMT audition later this month. Not expecting to get in, but it's tricky because there's something else she really wants to do this summer and we don't want that to fill up before we book it, but don't want to book it and find she's pulled a blinder and got into BYMT. Has anyone got any idea how long it takes for them to get outcomes out to people?

BYMT seem to drag it out a bit - up to the end of March sometimes. And if you get a reserve offer even longer!

@NotEvenSlightlyReasonable good luck to your DD. If you want an earlier answer, you could try NYMT as you hear back soon after first rounds whether you have a recall or not (and if it's a no you can go ahead and organise your summer), and if it's a recall they happen end of half term and you should know by late Feb/early March at the latest.

Those who’ve applied for NYMT - do you pay as part of the application or do you get an email after you submit? I thought I’d completed the application but followed the option to save a copy but then thought I’d be directed to payment?

We paid as part of the application. I can't remember how, but I think we were just redirected after filling in the forms online.

@doesanybodyhaveamap that's not nice! I need a Plan, I can't wait that long! Last year was a fail to plan kind of a year due to an audition process that she stayed in for way longer than we expected and I'm not keen to repeat it when I have to juggle DH's obsessive need to get a holiday booked NOW. Bless.

@Biscuitsneeded thank you, that's interesting. BYMT isn't her first choice for this year, but I think if she were lucky enough to get offered it, she'd be nuts to turn it down, so we're hanging on to book the first choice in case she gets offered the second choice... I'll be in all sorts of trouble if we miss out on the first choice because we waited. She's not expecting to get in, and is doing the audition because it's a fun workshop with a friend.
