Ok, I know we technically haven't finished 2022 yet as there is still the Christmas Concert for some (my ds is not taking part due to his conservatoire concert) but NYMT have released details of their 2023 season & auditions here

I’ve been following along with interest this last couple of days, being very new to all this. My DS has been offered KMK and we’re thrilled! Congratulations to everyone who has been offered something and commiserations to those who haven’t.

I've been following along with you all. DD couldn't audition for NYMT this year so we are just waiting on BYMT. Congrats to everyone who has had a yes so far and sorry to those who got a no. At least the waiting is over x

Armchair for DS - celebrating with what's left of the good biscuits!

Would be nice to create a post with dc’s ages and shows for future references- I can’t think who’s who!!

New to this too, lovely to find this thread. Would you guys recommend NYMT over BYMT? DD did BYMT last year and loved it. Also, has anyone done the NYMT workshops or concert in the past? Is the workshop much the same as BYMT without the show maybe at the end? Congrats to all who got through, and to everyone who had the courage to audition in the first place! Wouldn't be me, but great to see such resilient children among us.

@Mcmumager just wanted to say I’m so pleased your DS gets to finally do KMK! He (and you) must be over the moon. DS is also thrilled to be finally doing it! I’m sure they’ll have a blast. And at least they know to prepare themselves for the choreography…😆

Very late to the party, but congratulations to all the DC with yeses since I posted this pm. They will have such a great time. My DS is cast in Armchair and is very happy.

Good to see how many have offers for the shows - congratulations to all the wonderful DC. Today has been a bit stressful!

quick question to anyone whose DC did the concert last year - what time did they finish on the final day of rehearsals, was it a full day?

@yodaforpresident My son hasn't done the concert but the pick up is usually around 4pm on the last day, I think.

I think not getting KMK would have been been hard for DS after losing out to Covid so I’m so relieved he got it!
Different role this time. I wonder who got his previous role?

Workshop for mine

@Shesings2023 BYMT and NYMT are both similar, and different! They both involve auditioning, a residential if successful and mostly a show at the end of it. NYMT tend to either do brand new shows (eg Armchair, this year) or known shows (eg Kiss Me Kate). BYMT have a repertoire of their own shows and they rotate them so they do some of them each year. BYMT do more shows and therefore can take more participants. NYMT is smaller and therefore can be harder to get into. They audition for specific shows each time so you might have a lead one year and not be cast at all another time.
The NYMT workshop is a brand new musical each year. The writers compete for consideration and the winning show each year gets a cast selected by NYMT - it's a great opportunity for writers to workshop their show and for young actors to see how something gets put together in its earliest stages. They work on it all week and there is a showing of work at the end but it's not a fully produced show with sets and costume. Often, though, the workshop goes on to be a fully-fledged NYMT show the following summer. Any young person who is talented and likes performing would probably enjoy either BYMT or NYMT - there are a few people on here whose DC have done both, so they would be able to tell you more about how they compare.

DS said there are a few from 2020 but lots of others too.

DD has been offered Armchair! She’s absolutely over the moon. It’s been such a rollercoaster- I can’t believe how resilient and brave all these young people are. No matter the outcome - I’m in awe of them all and everyone should be incredibly proud.

It was slightly different for Ds as he was Asst MD but I think he caught a 5pm ish train home so it ended approx 4pm ish.

Well done to all those cast and commiserations to those it didn’t happen for this time round, it is such a tough process for everyone. Good news here this year DD has been cast in KMK and DS has been cast in the workshop so a fun summer ahead for both of them and now we can hopefully plan the rest of our lives -
some of our extended family are always baffled when we ask them to hold off on us firming up summer plans until late February each year. 🤣

Just wondering if anyone is still waiting for a response. Also anyone who has been offered a place for NYMT but also waiting for a response from BYMT and what your preference would be if your DC got offered a place with both? We are waiting for BYMT x

do we all have ds who were in the KMK 2020 cast and now finally get to do the show! What a fab time they will have. My ds is 17 how old are your boys?
