So, with BYMT auditions already underway and NYMT open for booking, it's surely time for a 2022 thread?? Who's in?

Submitted DD's NYMT actor self-tape and booked her audition today, eek! Need to also get her musician audition recorded this side of Christmas as we go on hols on 27th and she's back to school on 4/5th (PCR dependent 🙈)

Happy news here for DD! Musician place on Ragtime! News came in just as I was collecting her from Showcase rehearsals- which was well timed! Busy summer ahead 🥳🥳

Happy news here too for ds. He has a place on viola in Kiss for Cinderella!! He's very happy and a bit shocked as he didn't audition on viola, only violin!!

Yr10mom · 12/04/2022 20:20

cinderella for DD too 😊

BrightBlueCast · 12/04/2022 20:24

My younger son got an offer for Ragtime band. I sense some hesitation - probably because his brother is doing Chess and maybe he wanted them to be together. They’re both away so I can’t be sure what’s going on in his head! Kids!

Comefromaway · 12/04/2022 21:21

Congrats for musician places

Musicdoc · 12/04/2022 21:32

My son has a cello place in Ragtime... very happy boy. And good to have dates secured in the diary!

Biscuitsneeded · 15/04/2022 21:50

Congratulations to all for the musician places. It's going to be a great summer. DS back from residential last night - very tired but so happy. I hope everyone who went to NYMT this Easter had a great time.

Comefromaway · 22/04/2022 13:36

This is a little pre-emptive but just planning ahead. A friend of ds is applying for one of the instruments NYMT have just advertised for. He's from a low income single parent family. Any good fundraising ideas if he does get in?

Mcmumager · 22/04/2022 19:12

@Comefromaway i think both NYMT and BYMT have good financial support for those who need it. Hopefully his friend will qualify.

Audition submitted and email reply received with great feedback and asking about availability/show preferences. Looking hopeful.

im really hoping the lad will be eligible for a bursary.

Mumofamusician · 23/04/2022 20:01

Hello all

DD has a musician place and we’re just planning logistics, I am presuming that kids will need to be collected on the Saturday afternoon at the conclusion of the residential week at the school and then dropped off again for the production week at the B&B accommodation on the Monday morning and therefore the Saturday/Sunday night are our responsibility? This is my interpretation of the info we’ve had, any experienced parents able to confirm this? Thank you in advance!

Comefromaway · 23/04/2022 20:10

I don’t have experience of that but that’s what I gathered from last year’s threads.

Biscuitsneeded · 24/04/2022 14:00

That's certainly usually the case for younger ones dependent on parents, yes.

Starship9 · 25/04/2022 17:11

Hi there, very late to the party but DD just been offered musician part for Cinderella. Also offered showcase at Fuse but I’m getting the feeling rehearsals already taken place for that? Also do you know if musicians get score in advance as she did BYMT last year and was thrown in at the deep end!!

allhailthebrain · 25/04/2022 18:03

@Starship9 congratulations to your daughter! I'm not a musician's parent so I can't answer your questions I'm afraid, but I'm sure someone else will know!

The showcase rehearsals were just the performers though, as far as I know. So she hasn't missed anything!

Comefromaway · 25/04/2022 18:17

Congrats to your Dd.

Ds’s friend today also got offered musician for Chess & Showcase.

With regards to showcase she hasn’t missed anything. There will be a band call in London followed by a Sitzprobe on the Sun/Mon of the May half term. Band parts are still being written at the moment to suit to orchestra.

Kiss for Cinderella is a new musical so I’m not sure what the situation with regards to parts on that one is.

Comefromaway · 25/04/2022 19:06

Ds and his friend are currently discussing the logistics of potentially lift sharing whilst also transporting a full sized keyboard & electric drum kit. Is that even possible in a Hyundai I-20?

Thank you, really helpful advance info @Comefromaway

@Starship9 DD is also a musician doing the showcase and we haven’t had any info yet so you haven’t missed anything.

Last year she didn’t take her drum kit and the BYMT one was apparently’crap’ 😂 I hope we don’t have to ship her kit to Sevenoaks and then to London 😩

We (or rather ds's friend) are hoping the same thing, considering he is 17 and doesn't drive!

Starship9 · 26/04/2022 13:48

DD is only 13 so we've got years of carting a drum kit around if she does this every year..
