So, with BYMT auditions already underway and NYMT open for booking, it's surely time for a 2022 thread?? Who's in?

Submitted DD's NYMT actor self-tape and booked her audition today, eek! Need to also get her musician audition recorded this side of Christmas as we go on hols on 27th and she's back to school on 4/5th (PCR dependent 🙈)

@frizz289 fabulous, I hope he enjoys it!

Comefromaway · 25/03/2022 10:18

It looks like I will be re-joining this thread.

It's been quite a week for ds. He was offered a place at Leeds Conservatoire for next year and has just been offered a place on the NYMT Creative Mentoring Scheme. Not 100% on which show yet, the creative teams are in the process of matching the right people to the right shows but it's looking likely to be either Showcase or Kiss for Cinderella.

Biscuitsneeded · 25/03/2022 11:23

@Comefromaway how exciting! Congrats to your DS. As assistant MD? I hope he has a wonderful time and learns lots! Congrats on the Leeds Conservatoire place too.

Comefromaway · 25/03/2022 11:25

Yes.

He was also offered a place on the spot at another university audition this week (including a course he hadn't applied to they thought he would be suitable for) so his confidence has gone through the roof.

Not bad for a neurodiverse kid whose school wrote him off in Year 8 and asked him to leave.

Alakazam8 · 25/03/2022 11:33

Brilliant news @Comefromaway. It gives parents of neurodiverse kids a lot of hope and inspiration for their futures too!

Hi, glad I found this thread as I have a question.

Does anyone know if BYMT have actually sent out any 'unsuccessful' emails?

I know they have made plenty of offers but is anyone aware of the opposite? Asking as DD and another friend have just received a second 'holding' email. The first was a month ago. It just says bear with us/ need more time etc and we will hear within another month. I think they are waiting to complete the online auditions before letting us know the final outcome.

Unfortunately by the end of April we just wouldn't have time to get the money together, even if DD was to get a 'yes' . So just wondering what anyone else had heard, if they haven't already had an offer.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 26/03/2022 13:02

I really don't like that they do this @Bernardscheesyhat . Placing some kids, and holding on to others while continuing to see people in case someone else comes along- just doesn't sit right with me! They did it last year too. People waited months and months and then ending up with no's at the end of it all...

I agree does anybody. The deadline should be the deadline and everyone should be informed at roughly the same time, only if they haven’t found anyone suitable for a specific role should they continue to accept applications and be upfront on what they are after (eg last year NYMT continued advertising for Hunchback Choir & specific musicians plus the deaf role), not keep people hanging on.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 26/03/2022 15:07

They seem to forget that these are kids and young people who generally come with families attached and can't just drop everything or magic up a £1500+ fee at short notice... never mind the emotional toll these things take.

The NYMT wait got a bit excruciating towards the end but at least we all found out one way or another within a few days and could plan / move on accordingly.

Thank you @doesanybodyhaveamap that echoes what I was thinking.

Quitelikeacatslife · 29/03/2022 20:03

Hi, my DS is going to to Breadboy in Belfast, sounds great, anyone else?

Quitelikeacatslife · 29/03/2022 20:06

On the issue of holding , last summer DS was put on this with BYMT so I signed him up for a course instead. Then he got offered a production and they were really good at transferring fees over.

Yr10mom · 30/03/2022 09:31

Mornong all - agree totally re holding and timings etc; hoping very much we get nymt musician news today having sent their tapes in in dec/january which seems ages ago. it’s hard to hold dates this long with the risk that other things are turned down needlessly and then the summer is empty.

disorganisedmummy · 30/03/2022 10:47

Morning everyone. Please can I join? My ds is 15 and a violinist and absolutely mad about musical theatre. He sent in his video last week but we had a weird page came up with audition dates that have all passed. I emailed NYMT on Friday and explained and asked if they could find his form but not heard anything yet. I'm worried that they haven't got it and the closing date is tomorrow. I don't do waiting very well!! Does anyone know what happens next? Is it recalls in person or a zoom call? Good luck to everyone waiting for news. 🤞🏻

doesanybodyhaveamap · 30/03/2022 18:35

OMG showcase playlist is AWESOME!

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 30/03/2022 20:11

It’s been on constant play in my car the last few days. Ds is especially excited about the opening.

Mcmumager · 30/03/2022 20:21

Exciting @doesanybodyhaveamap. Are there any more locations? If it comes closer to home I’d love to catch it. Going to book a ticket for chess.

@disorganisedmummy the musician auditions are open until the end of the month. I’m not too clued up on this side of things but I think if your child is successful they will be invited to take part in a show rather than have to audition again. Others may have more accurate information Smile

Comefromaway · 30/03/2022 20:24

Ds got a no last year so I don’t know what the recall process for musicians was. And of course last year was so different anyway.

Yr10mom · 30/03/2022 20:41

@disorganisedmummy there weren’t recalls last year - the year before it was a single in person audition. they do say there may be on the website but seems v late for that now?

Mumofamusician · 31/03/2022 12:42

Also waiting on musician outcomes here and holding off on accepting several other offers until it comes in which is getting increasingly more difficult as we should have heard after the original closing date. Last email said late March/early April so anytime now - I hope.

Scatty345 · 31/03/2022 17:14

Hello all, just trying to work out what to send DD with to the NYMT residential. They talk about soft shoes. Do they need special dance shoes or will trainers do? Do they all end up doing some dancing? Sorry to be dim, but she doesn't do dance lessons so we don't have a lot of gear. Any advice gratefully received!

Biscuitsneeded · 31/03/2022 20:25

@Scatty345 I think trainers would be fine. DS owns jazz shoes but always refuses to take them...

BrightBlueCast · 02/04/2022 18:03

Has anyone heard about musicians’ places yet for NYMT? I have 2 DC who both auditioned. 1 did it last year and loved it so it’ll be tough if they don’t get in again. Sibling wants a piece of the action this year too. Fingers crossed.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 02/04/2022 18:20

@BrightBlueCast not yet but should be in the next couple of days (at least I'm hoping so. Not sure how much longer I can hold off on making other commitments!)

OP posts:
Mumofamusician · 02/04/2022 18:45

Trying to work out dates for other stuff which is pending a reply, does anyone know if the showcase will have musicians? I’m sure I read that it would? and if so what are the dates for this as I can’t see them on the website?
