So, with BYMT auditions already underway and NYMT open for booking, it's surely time for a 2022 thread?? Who's in?

Submitted DD's NYMT actor self-tape and booked her audition today, eek! Need to also get her musician audition recorded this side of Christmas as we go on hols on 27th and she's back to school on 4/5th (PCR dependent 🙈)

@Nopetynopenooe after originally not applying- my ds did a late online audition last year for BYMT and ended up having the best 3 weeks of his life. The experience was really positive for him, the creatives were amazing and he made some brill friends he’s still in touch with.

I think as the shows are all originals what might suit one child might not float someone else’s boat. There are some of the shows already confirmed on the webpage but I expect another few will be added shortly.

I’m not sure what age your child is but the audition should be good fun and even if they don’t decide to take part this year it’s great experience to have done for future BYMT/NYMT auditions. I’d vote to give it a go Smile

Recalled for showcase but cast in kiss for Cinderella! Strange but dc delighted. Congrats to all

Thanks all. I’d be really grateful for some advice on the residential weeks from anyone who’s done them. DD is only just 11 so it feels a bit nerve wracking leaving her. We are near bath. Do some mums stay nearby or is that over anxious?

Biscuitsneeded · 10/03/2022 13:36

@Scatty345 my DS was just 11 by a few days when he went to NYMT for the first time. They are so well looked after, and kept very busy so there isn't much time to feel homesick. You are of course free to stay somewhere nearby buy my honest advice would be that there would be little point. Your DD will be really busy, and if there is a real problem the pastoral team will contact you. They would probably discourage visiting as it can make homesickness worse. I sent a little boy off to NYMT and got back a lovely, confident (exhausted) young man who had had the time of his life. Feel free to PM is you have questions but I can assure you the pastoral care will be excellent and your DD will make friends quickly.

Biscuitsneeded · 10/03/2022 13:36

Sorry, typing in haste!

Coniger · 10/03/2022 14:56

@Scatty345 - congratulations to your DD. Do they all go on the same intensive at Easter from the 9th? My daughter is in Ragtime and she is 11 too so maybe they'll get to hang out if the easter residential is in the same place. We are not staying locally but trusting that she will have the best time and if not we'll cross that bridge then

Scatty345 · 11/03/2022 07:59

Hello, thanks biscuitsneeded for the info on the residential. A follow up question on that, because we are trying to juggle things around that are already planned for the summer and don’t know how it works - production week says they provide “accommodation and breakfast” - is it fully residential still in the sense that they are completely looked after by NYMT and the parents don’t need to be in London for the week to feed them the other meals etc! I’m assuming so but don’t want to be caught out. We are meant to be in Canada!

Montimom · 11/03/2022 08:18

@Scatty345 just be careful that there are a few days in between residential rehearsals (finish on a Saturday around 3-4pm) and starting back into production week residential on the Monday. I know one family that didn’t realise that last year so their DC ending up staying with us in our Airbnb

Thanks Montimom, all great advice. I had clocked that break in the schedule. So it sounds like the production week is fully residential again after the break?

Montimom · 11/03/2022 08:53

Yes it is!

Biscuitsneeded · 11/03/2022 09:42

Yes production week is fully residential. The London shows may not get fed 3 meals as its not always possible to get back to residences for lunch and dinner, but in that situation the pastoral team make sure all the younger ones have been to a shop or cafe and eaten reasonably. It's a week with possibly more than the usual amount of prepackaged food but it's all very fun and exciting and we always take the view that one week won't kill them!! You need to allow some spending money for DC in that week for lunches and dinners etc. But no need for parents to be resident too!

Mcmumager · 11/03/2022 17:18

Some BYMT results have started to come out- I know they will come put throughout the month so we’ve been told not to panic if you’ve not heard.

Ds delighted to be in Educating Yorkshire so my summer planning can start 🙂. It’s what he was hoping for so really pleased.

Wishing anyone else waiting good luck.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 11/03/2022 17:34
