So, with BYMT auditions already underway and NYMT open for booking, it's surely time for a 2022 thread?? Who's in?

Submitted DD's NYMT actor self-tape and booked her audition today, eek! Need to also get her musician audition recorded this side of Christmas as we go on hols on 27th and she's back to school on 4/5th (PCR dependent 🙈)

Well done @Alakazam8 's DD!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 17/02/2022 08:04

Ahhhh lovely good news week @Alakazam8 ? What instrument??

Thanks everyone- she plays the clarinet.
Anyone worried about weather disrupting travel plans for the weekend?

Biscuitsneeded · 17/02/2022 15:43

The forecast round here looks as if Friday might be a bit windy, but it should be OK by the weekend. Let's hope so!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 17/02/2022 16:27

We are going to drive in so hopefully will be ok!

There's also apparently an anti-Johnson demo on Saturday at Parliament Square. No idea how big it will be but possibly need to bear that in mind!

Alakazam8 · 17/02/2022 17:41

Allow extra time maybe!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 17/02/2022 18:03

Ooh @Biscuitsneeded I might just go and join in...

Biscuitsneeded · 17/02/2022 18:06

Haha @doesanybodyhaveamap I was deliberately not venturing an opinion (although of course I have a fair few on the subject of Mr Johnson) lest our lovely waiting room be sullied by political disagreement. Although I suspect most people would be inclined to agree with you!

Biscuitsneeded · 17/02/2022 19:48

Ooh the march is being spearheaded by Hugh Grant. TWO reasons to go! Apologies for going off-topic Smile.

Alakazam8 · 17/02/2022 21:09

Sorry back on topic but what do they usually wear to these auditions? Was thinking t shirt and then dance leggings and trainers or would she need jazz shoes or similar? (Rookie question)

Biscuitsneeded · 17/02/2022 21:28

@Alakazam8 Please do drag us right back onto our topic! Here I am thinking about Hugh Grant and there are more important things to consider! Wink.
They will need to be able to move so yes, I reckon leggings and T shirt. Maybe wear trainers but have jazz shoes in her bag in case lots of them produce them and she wants to fit in. NYMT won't mind either way. DS always refuses to take jazz shoes even though he owns some. That's just him!

Alakazam8 · 17/02/2022 21:30

@Biscuitsneeded Brill thanks- can join you in thinking about Hugh Grant now I’ve stopped worrying about shoes and dance clothes!

Email alert for those with recalls- still on but back up options explained. Check your emails and spam x

Is anyone doing Once Upon a time. Do they sing it all- if not which verses. (It says last ones) pleease- we are stuck on that one!

Biscuitsneeded · 18/02/2022 17:24

Is that for girls @Alakazam8? DS isn't here but I can ask him later if it's for all voices. In the meantime possibly @doesanybodyhaveamap might be able to help?

Alakazam8 · 18/02/2022 17:30

@Biscuitsneeded yes it’s just for girls unfortunately. Thanks anyway. We are really struggling with it…a few tears tonight and I’m trying my best to help her…

allhailthebrain · 18/02/2022 17:41

Just read out the Hugh Grant detail to my 14yo as I caught up on this thread - his reaction was immediately to start singing "Jump!' so clearly he's expecting him to do his Prime Minister's dance!

Biscuitsneeded · 18/02/2022 17:47

Bless her, I remember that. The first year DS auditioned we got sent about 7 impossibly high songs with just sheet music. We don't own a piano and don't read music and his were not the only tears! I really thought there'd been a mistake and they shouldn't have recalled him. And I think he went to the recall still very worried. NYMT don't expect them to have completely nailed it all. Tell DD to be brave and say ' I wasn't quite sure what to do here'. Sometimes they run through it with everyone anyway. They are always kind, and am sure do not intend to make the recall materials difficult and wouldn't her to be in tears over it. Just do what you can with it. Is this a solo piece or an ensemble song? If your DD is struggling, no doubt others are too. It won't be nearly as bad as she's imagining. They usually enjoy the recalls and NYMT are looking for potential and not perfection.

Biscuitsneeded · 18/02/2022 17:48

That's meant to say wouldn't want.

Biscuitsneeded · 18/02/2022 17:51

DS remembers a recall where a very little girl (she must have been 10 but looked much younger) came in and was too nervous to sing. One of the pastoral team came in and held her hand and sang it with her, and then she did it on her own. That little girl was cast and was brilliant!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 18/02/2022 18:00

@Alakazam8 it's tricky. We think the backing track starts where it's marked '99' on the music. However DD has learnt the whole song just in case. I'm sure they will run it a few times and will tell them exactly where they want to hear from tomorrow too x

OP posts:
doesanybodyhaveamap · 18/02/2022 18:01

What time is her audition? DD at 10 so I'm happy to provide an update afterwards xx

OP posts:
doesanybodyhaveamap · 18/02/2022 18:03

Also the tune is quite repetitive so once she's got the main pattern, she should be ok...

OP posts:
Alakazam8 · 18/02/2022 18:08

Thank you so much everyone- that’s so reassuring. I will try from 99 with the backing track and see how that goes. @Biscuitsneeded that’s so lovely- so kind!
She’s fine with Ragtime it’s Cinderella that’s got her stumped!!
