Hi, have just joined here so hope I am posting in the correct place. Just wondering if anyone here has a child auditioning for NYMT or similar groups this year.
My DD (age 11 ) is auditioning next sunday

Good luck Aplo and DD at the YMT auditions! Hope it's fun!

EvilTwins · 11/02/2017 18:01

My boy is there on Saturday for Sunday & Imaginary. Obviously I won't be there (feel like his bloody mother half the time, but I'm not... Like on Friday when he emailed me at 4am to tell me he was in hospital... Didn't see it til I got up of course, but still, I suppose I should be touched that he wanted me to know) but I will be sitting at home keeping things crossed for him. We're going to go over material in the week.

Same info about Princess. I've been very interested to see how Imaginary is looking. I'll be very excited if he gets into either - will definitely be there watching! Good luck to everyone's DC.

EvilTwins, it's lovely you care so much. I hope 'your' boy is successful this time! DS is feeling quite daunted. I am going to sit down with him later and help him learn those Imaginary songs...

Just a note to let any SUNDAY auditionees know that two of the files on the audition link had been accidentally swapped and misnamed. Jeremy has renamed them this morning, so the link is now right.

Biscuitsneeded · 13/02/2017 17:56

How did it all go, Aplo? I guess your DD is now busy with the school musical. I have PM's you about meeting for a coffee after drop-off on Sunday... there may be quite a crowd. All welcome!

zoemason · 13/02/2017 18:50

Hi my daughter has a recall for NYMT on Saturday. Not done this before! She also auditioned for YMT. Hello!!

Biscuitsneeded · 13/02/2017 19:21

Hello Zoemason! Well done to your DD. What is she recalled for?

zoemason · 13/02/2017 20:43

Imaginary, Honk and little princess although she is only attending the Imaginary bit in the morning as we have something else on later in the day. We must be mad. Her YMT audition went very well too. It's going to be a busy summer!

zoemason · 13/02/2017 22:06

Anyone who did it last year? If they get in and they have to go all the way to Kent what time do they go there for?? So if they start on the 2nd April for example will they have to be there early morning?

Biscuitsneeded · 13/02/2017 22:30

It was about 11am last year. It's not far from the M25 and easy to find.

janinlondon · 14/02/2017 09:05

Hi Zoe (waves) - we also have simultaneous YMT and NYMT irons in the fire.

zoemason · 14/02/2017 12:08

We would only do one or the other so waiting to see if she gets NYMT part else she will be doing YMT.

EvilTwins · 14/02/2017 13:02

Anyone else looking at Imaginary Upgrade Time? I'm presuming "no harm in getting head" is a typo Blush

Biscuitsneeded · 15/02/2017 10:43

EvilTwins I just listened to the guide track for that and it definitely sounds like 'getting ahead'. Certainly a better lyric!! Has you boy downloaded the guide and backing tracks or are you just working with the sheet music?

EvilTwins · 15/02/2017 11:31

Very thought so biscuits!

He's downloaded all of it - we're spending some time on it this afternoon so will make sure he learns the right words!

There's a lot to get through - last year it was just Spring Awakening!

janinlondon · 15/02/2017 11:39

Guide? Backing tracks? Eeek! Where have those come from? Is it odd that we don't have these for Sunday in the Park.....? Only sheet music...

EvilTwins · 15/02/2017 11:48

Not for Sunday (typically, given how difficult the piano music is!) I guess because Imaginary is brand new, they've sent recordings - no point looking on YouTube!

Biscuitsneeded · 15/02/2017 12:15

Don't panic Jan - each show has provided different stuff. The advantage of the new commissions is that they can get the creators to provide a recording of themselves singing the extracts - very necessary considering the kids can't hear it anywhere else. But for pre-existing shows I guess they know they can listen to cast recordings, youtube etc. Honk is proving a struggle because existing recordings don't reflect the sheet music we've been sent, you need someone who can play the piano in order to practise it. But they are super nice at the auditions and are very good at spotting potential in a less than perfect rendition - they must be or DS wouldn't have been picked last year!!

janinlondon · 15/02/2017 13:18

Biscuits! I'm sure that is NOT the case for your poor DS!!! Smile We will just struggle on with the horror of 4/4 changing to 6/4 midstream then....

Biscuitsneeded · 15/02/2017 15:27

Oh I didn't mean he was no good!! Poor DS. It's just that we had a load of sheet music (only) to prepare for one of the shows last year and with no piano players in the family we only had a couple of 30 minute sessions with a friend to help him learn the songs. I don't think he could have sung every single one faultlessly at the audition. Luckily he was cast anyway, in a different show. All I mean is that I am sure they will be forgiving of any mistakes, especially if there haven't been any audio tracks to work with. I remember DS and I got very alarmed by it all last year and I realised afterwards that it hadn't been necessary to worry quite as much as we did. Good Luck to all the DC at the weekend.

zoemason · 15/02/2017 15:52

So was your son cast in a totally different show than he was recalled for biscuitsneeded?

Biscuitsneeded · 15/02/2017 16:04

No, he was recalled for two and cast in the other one, which was a new commission and therefore we had some audio tracks to help with the preparation.

Dancingdaughters · 15/02/2017 16:22

So he was recalled for two but was cast in one of the two?

Biscuitsneeded · 15/02/2017 16:46

Yes.

EvilTwins · 15/02/2017 16:59

I've just spent a couple of hours going through the stuff for Sunday & Imaginary with my student. It's a fair amount to prepare but he's more laid back than last year - he got it all sorted last year and then didn't actually need it all in the recall. Having said that, we're still preparing everything... Looks like Sunday is going to be the show for the older group with Imaginary having a good mix of ages from the character breakdown. I love Sondheim but bloody hell it's difficult! If anyone else is preparing Finishing The Hat, I found a really good piano track for it on YouTube here Couldn't find one for Move On, though I do have the CD (which I've lent to him)
