Ouch Hat, glad to hear it has evoked some sympathy though.

Results are just out, I was 129/362 overall but 15th lady (out of around 160) and 10th in my age group so considerably

Will be able to do all the 'Hat stats' once the results are available in Excel.

Must admit, used Mr T as a visualization thing when it got tough, he's never been one for races but would give everything to be able to run again so I felt I was doing it by proxy for him. He's delighted that a) I did well and b) I did it at all, so thanks again for the kick up the bum!!

angelene · 27/09/2009 21:48

Congratulations Twink, I'm in awe...

I did my first 10k today, the Swansea Bay 10k which was bloody tough (see previous whinges re not training for 3 weeks) but I made it. I only did 1:12 but I wanted to get below 1:15 which was an adjusted aim from 70 mins.

It was tough but fun, I had to stop a couple of times but overall I was OK. I thought I was going to throw up in the queue for bags afterwards and had to have a sit down so at least I know I didn't 'leave anything out there'. It's a base to work from at least.

I also have to say that I got the very best post-race freebie EVER - a whole loaf (a whole loaf!!) of Warburtons Fruit & orange bread!! Absolutely stunning, much better than a cereal bar.

angelene · 27/09/2009 21:50

Oh and the other thing in mitigation was that it was really humid - it was gorgeous weather in the lead up to the race and I was wandering around looking for suncream, but just before the start it clouded over. I'm a hopeless redhead who cannot handle the heat so there's another excuse....

stickylittlefingers · 28/09/2009 09:14

mooseloose - I did wonder if any MNers would be around. We should have all worn a carnation or something (I did my best by doing an impersonation of a red carnation!).

No run this weekend - managed to twist my knee down a hole while playing football with my nephew! Hoping it will be sorted by tomorrow morning. Did do a little run on Friday morning and it was just lovely - pretty sunrise and I was allowed to stop and drink tea after 3 miles

I think running you're reasonably safe from the perverts (unless they're long distance running pervs I spose!). I got completely freaked out by an owl terwit terwooling at me a couple of weeks back, and must have done a 4 minute mile home... I was hardly in much danger tho!

hatwoman · 28/09/2009 10:27

I was wondering about the possibility of long-distance running pervs on Sunday when my fellow runner guided me through the fog on the moors...I decided it was a pretty remote possibility

peachsmuggler · 28/09/2009 13:53

Well done Twink that's an awsome time.

and well done Angelene! My first two 10ks were both 1:12! LOL at your loaf of bread

Did 5 miles of hills this morning. Not bad, but got wicked stitch near the end and ended up walking back to the house.

Really need to start upping my distances again. Planning to do 7 miles this weekend. Going to a friend's on Saturday night and planning to eat my own body weight in cheese so a long run beforehand seems like a good idea for reasons of fitness and girth! Will also be my first night ever away from DD so am a bit

Wallace · 28/09/2009 14:17

Well done angelene and Twink

Did a nice hill this morning. Actually when I say "hill" it was what I used to call a hill before I was introduced to real hills

OrmIrian · 28/09/2009 14:23

Yay! Hurrah! Huzzah! Let joy be unconfined etc etc

I did 6 miles on saturday and my feet were fine. I had to walk every now and again but as I haven't really run for best part of 8 weeks I am not totally surprised. Thank god for that. I was beginning to think it would never happen.

morethanyoubargainfor · 28/09/2009 17:22

i have had the worst day running wise today.

Do you find that some days you just can't run?

I only managed to do about a mile, knew from about .4mile that it just wasn't happening today for some reason so in the end i gave up and walked/ran the rest of the way home.

My legs felt like they were stuck fast to the road, now i feel all disapointed with myself, pleas tell me i will run again.

oh and another little factor, i did turn blue at work today!

OrmIrian · 28/09/2009 17:31

Yes that happens, and yes you will run again.

But the turning blue sounds worrying? WHy did that happen?

Themasterandmargaritas · 28/09/2009 17:33

Twink and Angelene, great results!

Huzzah and slaps Orm on the back. Welcome back.

Peachy, the first time is always the worst. You soon learn to let go of them very quickly

Don't beat yourself up Morethan, tomorrow is another day.

I'm just back from a lovely 5.5 miler and for once I went with a friend. I had to slow up for her and actually it was a lot easier all round to go a bit slower I promise to punish myself and push myself harder next time. Also I quite like the sun setting scenario rather than the sun rising scenario, still about 26 degrees though. However I did feel slightly bad because I left dd at her riding lesson while I ran and came back to find her having fallen off. Probably it was for the best I wasn't there.

Themasterandmargaritas · 28/09/2009 17:35

Oh yes, I forgot to ask about that, why did you turn blue???

hatwoman · 28/09/2009 17:59

turning blue? doesnt sound good you know. dd2 used to turn blue quite a bit when she was young. well, her lips went purple to be more precise. there's a name for it - one of those stupid names which just means the same as "turning blue" - cyan-something-osis. or something. isn't it to do with circulation? I'm slightly of the opinion (fwiw) that it might be worth getting it checked out. (with little kids/babies the books say stuff like take your child to A&E, do not pass Go etc. but dd never quite reached the level of symptoms that required a&e and the GP just said not to worry about it.)

  • disclaimer - none of the above should EVER be taken as remotely authoritative about anything at all when it comes to even slightly blue babies, children or adults...
morethanyoubargainfor · 28/09/2009 18:07

don't know why i turned blue, i just got really realy cold and couldn't warm up and then my collegue told me i was blue. It lasted for about an hour thenm it went again, just feel really heavy now!

Maybe i am coming down with something as i have been very very tired over the last week or so.

Themasterandmargaritas · 28/09/2009 18:07

Wow a real live genuine Blue expert in our midsts. Can you tell me why my egg yolks turn blue after they've been hard boiled, too?

Themasterandmargaritas · 28/09/2009 18:10

Morethan, poor you. If your circulation is not working properly then that would explain why your legs found it hard work today, wouldn't it? Maybe you've got a virus....

peachsmuggler · 28/09/2009 18:45

Blue? Oh dear morethan that doesn't sound so good. Does sound like you might have something so best take it easy.

Thanks master. Am sure it will be fine, and even fun! Must resist urge to drink myself into a horrible hangover as will ruin the blissful child-free lie in!!!

Welcome back Orm!

popsycal · 28/09/2009 19:11

i am still in needofa plan(and a new keyvboard)

Wallace · 28/09/2009 19:50

Sounds like you're coming down with something, morethan. But even if not I think we all have days when it feels like we're running through treacle.

master - you gave me a fright for a minute because a friend today went out for a 5.5 mile run with another friend who had to slow down for her. I thought I knew you for a minute. Then I remembered where you live so it isn't you!

popsy - hmm, a plan... Where do you live? Have you thought about a British Military Fitness event? I am doing the Scottish 5k with my sister who goes to a british military fitness class. Lots of mud and stuff
