I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

Oh,a nd regarding mp3's, this is mine, dirt frigging cheap, I only put about 15 songs on and just delete them all and add more when i want a new playlist.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 23/06/2009 18:06

Hello. Haven't run since last Thursday due to cold, toothache and hideous amounts of marking.

Cold now gone, marking sent off. Toothache being dealt with. Will run more on Thursday. Not sure how far or long to run for - think my body won't be impressed at having to run again

JackBauer · 23/06/2009 18:10

Oh, and well done Monty and tryingtocook!

Montifer · 23/06/2009 20:02

Thanks for the welcome and words of wisdom.
DP found 2 old MP3 players (one which I bought years ago and don't think I've ever used ) so that's Rawb sorted for the next run.
2nd attempt felt easier than 1st and I'm almost looking forward to tomorrow's effort, am hoping the timed music will be a revelation.
Looking ahead, week 2 looks manageable and week 3 looks a bit scary. Can't believe I will be running 30 minutes non stop by September - have never been able to run a mile without feeling like I'm going to explode before.

canella · 24/06/2009 09:10

jackbauer - keep going - you know you can do it - you did 20 mins last week!!

rita - hope you feel better and manage to get out on thurs!!

Montifer - you'll be running a mile in no time!! its amazing how quickly the weeks go by!

Tryingtocook - well done for the 3 mins!! it feels like such an achievement!!

Well i am well chuffed with myself for doing w5r2 this morning - i did both 8 min runs!!!!!!!!!!!!

but whats the story about w5r3 - how am i supposed to then run 20 mins? is it not maybe better to move to w6r2 and do 10 min runs? feel stressed at the thought of running for 20 mins even though i coped really well with 8 mins! HELP!!!

canella · 24/06/2009 09:11

hoep you get on ok at the physio nappy - remember to at least say you've done you're exercises!!!

JackBauer · 24/06/2009 09:28

canella, it is doable, I was in shock (see the posts above!) when I did mine.

I have worked out that the big retail park down the road from me is about 2 miles, so I am going to get a bus there next time and run home, so I can't turn round or take a shortcut!

I will need water and a bag for money though, what do you all do about carrying things?

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 24/06/2009 10:30

Canella i have been doing my excersises!!! i have also shaved my legs this time and am barefoot so no embarrassing sock fluff , i also removed my nail varnish and now look like i have dirty toes . Anyway im right excited and work even said if they advised a podiatrist it would get funded so im hoping if he confirms flat footedness today i will get some nice insoles done through work

I am planning on doing week6r2 tonight all being well yey!

Canella i worried about going to the big long run but it just happens it really does, then next week you manage it for even longer building up over 3 days - tis amazing

Firstly he has told me to have another week off (i did mention i had a short gentle trot but it was more a fast walk) - he said seems to have healed fully but to do these excersises for a week then he will see me next wed and give me permission to go again all being well .... then he rubbed his metal thingy on my heel whilst holdig my feet which were sweaty - anyway i made a knob of myself - he asked me to show the exersises i had been doing and it seems one of them i had completely made up myself in place of some i should have been doing . Aside from this it gave us both a good laugh . He then gave me some new ones involving jumping of a step 2 feet andl anding on my injured ankle which i took to ment 2 feet in the air lol then 2 feet out - then i finally did what he wanted which was jump with 2 feet to land on one, my god its a good job i am happily married as i would never bag a hot bloke like him !!! anyway eventually the penny dropped and i did said jump about 10 times and my balanceis so rubbish i almost fell over 4 of them ....... but i promise i wont even put my runners on..... in fact im not sure i should be allowed to ever leave the house alone again

Hello everyone not been on for ages. Have a bad wrist injury and the jolting of running hurts. Its not too painful now though - but am waiting for 2 operations which will likely make the pain worse again

Just back from the gym, did an hour.

How are you all?

canella · 24/06/2009 20:29

oh giraffe that sounds sore - hope you get it sorted soon!!

nappy - what you like!!! you really need to lie down in a dark room to get over the trauma of today and showing yourself up in front of the hot physio!!! but i'm going to stalk this thread every day to check you've not been running!!!! listen to the hot physio - he prob knows his stuff!!!

Montifer · 24/06/2009 23:04

Just back from W1 R3 and my 1st sesh with Raahb; the running felt so much easier with his 'motivating music' - bit reminiscent of the dodgy rave clubs of my yoof! Am actually looking forward to the next run!
Read back through this thread yesterday and am very inspired by all of your progress, great to see the beginners of a few weeks ago are now actually running for many minutes at a time. Can hardly believe that might be me in a few weeks (and you'll all be heading for your 5k and more). Sorry to hear about the injuries - don't forget Nappy - your exercises are your treatment

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 24/06/2009 23:55

Am feeling inspired to run tomorrow .

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 25/06/2009 11:22

I ran for 30 min

Did my minutes per mile and it was 12.43 min/mile which is a bit usless seeing as I did just over 11 min/mile for 3 miles last week, but hadn't run for a week so isn't so bad.

Got very hot and sweaty

Chinwag · 25/06/2009 13:19

Did the Race for Life last night. Ran (well - jogged) the whole way, and did it in 36 minutes!! I am so please with myself. It has taken me 3 months from couch to 5 k!

And my DD (8) did it with me, and never moaned once, but encouraged me all the way! Bless her. She did fab!

JackBauer · 25/06/2009 13:37

Well done Chinwag! And LovelyRita, good to know you can take a break and not go back to coach potato again...

Giraffe? Nappy? How are the invalids doing? Better I hope, but I hope neither of you are running

Montifer, you will be really surprised at how easy it is the first few weeks, I seem to have lost momentum now though...
I am feeling really bleurgh again and can't face going out. never mind that IL's are arriving any minute so have been tidying, and the hosue is still a state, and DD2 won't go to sleep even though she is shattered.

If I don't go you must all bollock me.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 25/06/2009 14:09

im fine - feeling though whilst i am on a running ban i am turning more to the couch and the crisps and the cheese toasties out of boredom . i am doing my excersises though and dh was highly amused at me jumping of the stairs last night ! all good fun! If i ran i wouldnt dare even say this week what with you and canella both tsk tsk and spying on us !

OP posts:
Montifer · 25/06/2009 19:47

Oh no Jack, don't lose momentum - it sounds like you've got to the stage where you can go for a proper run (like a real life runner!). Are you beyond the 5k stage? Did you go out today (yet)?
Well done with the exercises Nappy, when do you see the hot physio again? If you are really desperate to keep up your heard earned fitness how about something like this?
Go on Rita and Chinwag

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 25/06/2009 19:54

That looks interestign but not for me as would have to go to pulic swimming baths semi naked - could i do it in the bath

hot physio next wed for last time and then i will really show myself up as he wants me to rrun round the indoor track

Jack I always advise running when you can get oh or inlaws to babysit so you can escape ratty children and il's at the same time and the break does you good - get out i tell ya!!

OP posts:
JackBauer · 25/06/2009 20:19

Well they didn't turn up until 4ish and the DD's were getting a bit overexcited about the new puppy, so I didn't go
I have however arranged for MIL to come back round tomorrow (They don't stay in our house when they visit) while DD1 is in school so I can go and she will also come roudn next week. It's great as 1-3 is my fave time to run!

Am only on wk7 but should be running 2 miles each time now...

Montifer · 25/06/2009 22:21

Jack - Only on week 7!! Isn't that 2 weeks away from 30 min runs? I'm still mildly sceptical that I can go from Ms Puff-and Pants to Ms 30 mins in 9 weeks but am intrigued enough to go for it.
Are you still with Raahb or have you parted company in favour of some decent music!
Enjoy your run tomorrow.

Canella - did you do the big 10?

canella · 26/06/2009 08:57

I RAN FOR 20 MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so fecking chuffed with myself that i did it with no stops and managed to breathe through my nose the whole time!!!!!

canella · 26/06/2009 09:02

just put it into that minutes per mile thing and it was just over 12 minutes per mile - not the worst but def scope to get quicker!!! need to find a longer route i think!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 26/06/2009 10:13

congratulations

its amazing isnt it - i should be on commision the amount of people i know i have recruited to rawb!

OP posts:
LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 26/06/2009 12:18
