Just bought a treadmill/ walking pad and I'm stoked!

Just wanted to come on here to share my excitement! I spent most of 2023 with an injury which prevented me from doing a lot of sports I love! However, one thing I can do is walk and I could walk for hours/ days and I've used it to get me through many a mental battle during injury. Problem is when co-parent my LO I can't get out as much so for 4/5 days I don't do much and it gets me down, so after a lot of putting a walking pad/ treadmill in my basket and taking it out trying to justify the cost I've finally given in and got myself a walking pad and I'm so full of excitement and hope to be able to get some steps in of an evening when I have my little one! Just had to share my happy news and see if anyone has had one and can help me justify spending on such a purchase!?

I think mine is due to arrive next week. I'm planning a walking desk but need to wait until I can afford the bit that'll raise my very heavy desk.

Looking forward to trying it out.

Congratulation! I bought a walking pad just before Christmas and I really like it. Mine is set up so that I can watch tv and walk and that works well for me and make the minutes fly by.

I do find that it takes me a couple of minutes to regain my 'land legs' when I get off of the pad though but that may just be me as I have a notoriously bad sense of balance!

Oo the desk is a great shout! As long as it stops me sitting on the sofa eating chocolate of an evening I'll be happy 🫣

Ah thanks for the tip! I'm in a flat it is meant to be a quieter one so I'm hoping the noise doesn't annoy the neighbours 😳

I'd also appreciate any recommendations. Have been looking for a while but haven't settled on one.

I have this one. It's very heavy to move on your own but once in place it's fab.

Thanks @Blondeissimo. Don't have a great deal of space since our offices closed have squeezed a desk into my bedroom. So I am having second thoughts if it's going to be heavy. Guess I'll stick to walking outdoors for now.

I've just caved and bought this one as got it for £149 (it has a £50 discount) which I thought was reasonable. I didn't want to spend much more until I suss out if I'll actually use it!

@BattyOwl I have also looked at this one- how are you finding it?

I've been wanting one for ages but sadly I can't find one that has weight capacity for my current size. Biggest one I've found takes 110kg. I'm just a smidge over that but don't want to take the gamble incase it's a strict limit.
Only alternative seems to be opting for a full-scale treadmill but
a) even some of those have a 110kg weight limit
b) ££££ when you get to "industrial" level kit
c) much bigger storage space required
d) kind of defeats the purpose of it being mobile/easily moved if its a tonne weight to shift it.

I'll just need to keep going to the gym for my cardio, which is not ideal for a myriad of boring reasons.

I got a small treadmill last year and did the couch to 5K, so now I can run 25 mins every other day - I am 70. Feel much fitter on the local hills.

I really want to do this, I’m just nervous of getting motion sickness. Does anyone have any tips for using walking pads/treadmills and not getting the spins?? I once had an embarrassing collapse at the gym after a long treadmill run! I felt fine apart from the room spinning 😵‍💫

Following as have also been wanting to get one. Recovering from a herniated disc and too scared to walk outside when it’s icy

@Oohyoudaftbat well.... it was delivered and returned and refunded within 24 hours!

So it's great. Easy to operate, no set up , really good. But something I hadn't considered .... I suffer with travel and motion sickness and blimey! I did 20 mins and when I got off I felt like I did when I get travel sick. I didn't put two and two together at first but yep - it was the treadmill. It's something to do with your brain knowing you're walking but your body is obviously not going anywhere!

So I still really recommend this model as it was just perfect but motion sickness was is perhaps something to bear in mind with walking pads if you suffer

@hazandduck just seen your reply after typing mine.

Don't do it. Just don't.

I wasn't sick but I felt all the usual motion sicky feelings ... vague headache, slight nausea, felt tired and wobbly.

I just can't do it

Some of those don't look like they come with the desk/frame attachment. Is that right, that you just get the flat bit of the treadmill with nothing to grab onto?

I’m intrigued and very tempted! Sorry if this is a stupid question but is it possible to do gentle jogging on these? I’m reluctant to get a full sized treadmill because of size but want to do more than walking.

I did! Was the best thing for weight loss and maintenance I've ever purchased. Try a Conqueror Challenge too Op, I did loads and would merrily walk the miles away as a bit of incentive whilst watching box sets on my TV set up infront of it. It became the best bit of mindfulness and me time of my day very quickly. Before I knew it I looked the best I'd ever looked, not that it's about that but what a bonus!
