Just wanted to come on here to share my excitement! I spent most of 2023 with an injury which prevented me from doing a lot of sports I love! However, one thing I can do is walk and I could walk for hours/ days and I've used it to get me through many a mental battle during injury. Problem is when co-parent my LO I can't get out as much so for 4/5 days I don't do much and it gets me down, so after a lot of putting a walking pad/ treadmill in my basket and taking it out trying to justify the cost I've finally given in and got myself a walking pad and I'm so full of excitement and hope to be able to get some steps in of an evening when I have my little one! Just had to share my happy news and see if anyone has had one and can help me justify spending on such a purchase!?

I really want to do this, I’m just nervous of getting motion sickness. Does anyone have any tips for using walking pads/treadmills and not getting the spins?? I once had an embarrassing collapse at the gym after a long treadmill run! I felt fine apart from the room spinning 😵‍💫

Travel sickness bands are your bestie for this!

Easypeasycheesy · 11/01/2024 17:45

I just got myself a home folding treadmill! Only cheap and don't expect the trackers are very accurate but I'm setting myself up to exercise every evening! I will shift these lbs!

Those with motion sickness issues might prefer a mini elliptical. I have this one, can use seated or standing and you can stop whenever you like. It stops the runaway feeling.

Well done! I’d love to get one but I fear it would be too loud for the neighbours (live in a Victorian terrace).

Nobadvibes · 12/01/2024 06:41

I’ve had one for 18 months now and love it! I have a desk that raises and when I’m on work calls I walk. Also mastered being able to type whilst walking.

I’ve built my steps up to 12-15k a day. Also carry it downstairs to go it in front of the TV

That looks great, I didn't know such a thing existed. Do you use it standing as well as seated?

Some of those don't look like they come with the desk/frame attachment. Is that right, that you just get the flat bit of the treadmill with nothing to grab onto?

I wondered this too. I'd be straight on my arse, if there's nothing to hold onto

TheWorldisGoingMad · 12/01/2024 10:34

It's usually the same manufacturers's so not much difference, name wise. Choose one with the best guarantee.

RiseAgainMum · 12/01/2024 10:51

My balance is not good so I've started Qi Gong. It's really gentle but deceptive as it works all the muscles. A couple of balance on one leg exercises but I can use a chair or wall for support until I strengthen the balancing leg. It's all about keeping the core engaged to support the core and the back.

@RiseAgainMum , is this an in person class or something you found online? I've been looking for a class locally for a while but there's nothing. Would like any online class recommendations (for beginners!).

Yes, this one can be used standing and seated 🙂

Fozzleyplum · 12/01/2024 13:02

This thread is exactly what I have been looking for! I can see that a pp manages to walk and type, but I would welcome some views on what might suit my circumstances.

I'm a home office based lawyer who doesn't (usually) suffer from motion sickness.

I work long hours at a desk that can be raised to standing, and I tend to stand most of the time. Clearly, either a quiet treadmill or small elliptical machine could be used during phone calls, but how satisfactory is it to type/ navigate your way round a laptop, and read documents on the laptop, whilst using a treadmill or mini elliptical machine? I am engaged in those activities for most of my working day. And assuming both are equally possible, which is best for overall fitness?

Thanks!

It’s a DVD with Lee Holden. I’m doing his 30 day challenge. Each exercise is only 7 mins long and sets me up for the day.
the other dvd for balance is Qi Gong for better balance . Check him out on YouTube to see if you gel with him. There are loads of freebies including the 30 day challenge in there

Do you use it both ways? I like the look of the standing way.

So I tend to just leave it set up for standing. But it's basically just a case of turning it around to use seated. It's light enough for just a quick swivel but too heavy for moving around too much. I wouldn't lug it up and down stairs for example.
The weight means that it is very stable though.
I very much like that I can be moving quite fast while reading emails but when I need to focus I can just stop moving for a minute, tend to it, and then pick my pace back up. I think if I had an electric walking pad I would have landed on my face by now! 😂

That reply was for goats

Oohyoudaftbat · 12/01/2024 17:33

Thanks for replying @BattyOwl. I’ve ordered it! Ooh heck, I hadn’t thought about the motion sickness element. My balance is terrible after an accident left one of my legs weaker than the other so I may well be returning it too! But I have to try something. On some of the days that I work from home, I do less than 2,000 steps! 😬

Zanatdy · 12/01/2024 21:07

That’s fab. I walk up and down my living room when it’s cold outside so I can get my steps in. Today I’ve not been out apart from short walks with dog for a wee (his dog Walker took him on main walk as I was working) and I’ve done 20k steps in my living room!!

Wallywobbles · 12/01/2024 21:15

Mines arrived. Works well. The speakers are rather quiet but a D I didn't know it had them I don't care. I do get motion wobbles. I can cgech my emails as in go (at azz about 4 km/h) but definitely don't think I could do a meeting.

I did a couple of hours in the morning and then another hour or so in the evening. I don’t know really. I worked at home today so sometimes walk up and down when someone calls

Thank you! I found him on YT and tried 10 mins of his easy at home one. Loved it, just what I've been looking for.
