Starting back, Accountability thread

Hi, I'm looking to start exercising again. I was doing really well until December last year, when I got injured, stopped exercising and put all the weight back on.

I'm currently 14st 4lbs 9oz and my aim is 9st 7lbs.

I can swim regularly, I have a cross trainer, and weights. I can walk trails each morning. But I'm thinking of starting c25k again. This will probably be the 4th time I've done it, I got up to 1/2 marathon distance previously, but what is putting me off is that its really hilly around my house I llive in now and I hate an incline 😂

Theres no parkrun where I live.

Is anyone else starting back and want to join me for accountability?

I’ll join!

I’ve just weighed myself and could cry at the number on the scales 😓 realistically I need to lose around 80lb probably a bit more but I’m going to break it down into smaller chunks and aim for a stone by my birthday at the end of July!

I think I’m going to give c25k a go too then hopefully rejoin a gym on payday too. I’ve done c25k before but it’s been a while so probably best to start from scratch. I have a feeling I’ll be ready to keel over by the end of the street 😂

MaybeC25Kagain · 19/06/2023 12:03

I've just found some headphones so might start tonight, I used to do m/w/f before.

I'm currently halfway through C25K @MaybeC25Kagain - I completed it a couple of years ago but never got up to half marathon standard, that's amazing! Then I changed jobs, had less time, stopped running, piled on the pounds etc... just on the 14st mark now and have 50lb to lose Sad

I often do a run after I've dropped the DC at breakfast club because then I can start going downhill for a good way Grin

@dreaminginrainbows my DTs are 8 in September and I'm hoping to join a gym then, at 8 they can go to the gym (and are surprisingly quite keen!) rather than the creche, which they're far too big for. I will need to find in the region of £100 a month though for all of us Shock really want to get us all moving though, as I need to lose weight and DTS2 could easily turn into a couch potato if we let him!

MaybeC25Kagain · 19/06/2023 13:52

@MissAmyPond Do GP's still give out gym memberships/discounts? Could you look into that?

OP posts:
dreaminginrainbows · 19/06/2023 15:35

@MissAmyPond its so expensive isn’t it! My local leisure centre usually has joining offers on throughout the year- might be something to look into. I got a quote from my local gym today which does boot camp style classes and the basic membership is £59 a month 😮@MaybeC25Kagain suggestion of the GP is a good shout too!

Right, I’ve charged my Apple Watch and my headphones and I’m off to give my first run a go- wish me luck 😂

MaybeC25Kagain · 19/06/2023 15:55

@dreaminginrainbows Good luck!

I've ordered some new wireless headphones and they should arrive on Thursday. For now, I've found some wired ones and will do w1r1 tonight 💪

OP posts:
dreaminginrainbows · 19/06/2023 18:26

Ah I love my wireless ones! My first run is done- it wasn’t bad actually but boy was it warm 🥵 😂Good Luck for your run tonight @MaybeC25Kagain 👟

MaybeC25Kagain · 19/06/2023 18:48

I did it! W1r1 done. There's so many hills round here, my calves struggled.

I jumped in the pool after and did maybe 20-30 mins in there too.

Well done on your runs @MaybeC25Kagain and @dreaminginrainbows !

I was all set to go out this morning - DC booked into breakfast club, dressed in my running stuff etc - and then a big storm started. Now I don't mind running in rain but I draw the line at actual thunder and lightning! I did a HIIT workout at home instead and will have to work out when I can do my next run...

MaybeC25Kagain · 20/06/2023 09:17

@MissAmyPond Well done for not giving up, with a cuppa in that weather! 💪

This is what I need to learn, its not all or nothing and anything is better than nothing. I'm going to try to get up early on wednesday and do my run in the morning so its cooler. I've been struggling with getting up earlier than the time I absolutely have to since I started HRT, which is odd for me becuase I was always awake at the crack of dawn.

OP posts:
MissAmyPond · 20/06/2023 09:56

@MaybeC25Kagain it was very tempting!!

Could I ask if HRT has helped you? I'm hoping to discuss it with my GP at some point - I have very heavy periods, low level depression/ anxiety and terrible brain fog - they have prescribed citalopram but I wonder if HRT would be more useful! I'm 47 now so perimenopause would definitely be an option.

Oh and I often say to myself "don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good" - as you say, trying not to stop doing anything at all just because I can't do everything that I might want to!

MaybeC25Kagain · 20/06/2023 10:20

@MissAmyPond Yes its helped me, my symptoms were mild, but I was getting really bad brain fog, making silly mistakes at work, bad attention to detail, unable to retain information and that has all cleared up.

That was my main reason for taking it, I didn't have night sweats or hot flushes, I think I had one once but I'm only 42 so the GP said I need it anyway and people on here said to take it to protect bones, heart etc.

I was practically out the other side by the time it was identified. I had been having fertility treatment/investigations that got waylaid in covid and meno was confirmed last November with blood tests and an ultrsound showing the start of atrophy of the ovaries.

The main thing other than the fertility of course that has pissed me off is how much harder it is to lose weight now compared to when I was younger. How much less I have to eat 😂

MissAmyPond · 20/06/2023 11:56

Thanks @MaybeC25Kagain , that's really helpful. I do think something like that would be more helpful for me than an anti depressant - the MH support through my GP surgery has been great, but I don't actually get to see a GP to talk about the symptoms, maybe I'll need to push for that!

I'd like to start some sort of yoga/ Pilates as well - for flexibility as well as general wellbeing - but have no idea where to begin! plus I am very impatient and just want to be thin straight away

MaybeC25Kagain · 20/06/2023 12:03

@MissAmyPond Definitely push for the proper meds.

Have you looked at Yoga with Adrienne on Youtube? She has a 30 day programme, but I've never got past maybe day 6. I find her a bit boring but I suppose all youtube yoga people are probably the same? I did hot yoga once as an actual class and really enjoyed that and felt the benefit, but classes near me are all a tenner a time and I'm not paying that at the moment.

I might do 20-30 mins on the cross trainer then some swimming and then Day 1 of Adriene's programme there ^ tonight ready to do w1r2 tomorrow morning.

dreaminginrainbows · 20/06/2023 12:37

I’ve just done a 1.5 mile run jog today on my lunch break. An elderly gent actually stopped me to make sure I was okay so I think I must have looked/sounded ready to keel over 😅🤦🏻‍♀️. I’m off to try and find something healthy to eat for lunch now. I think I need to get rid of all the chocolate and cake out my house because my willpower is actually shocking 😂

I’m going to check out that yoga link too. Thanks for sharing @MaybeC25Kagain! It’s always something I‘ve wanted to try but I’m not the most flexible of people haha

i’m equally as impatient @MissAmyPond 😂 why does it go on so much quicker than it comes off?!

MaybeC25Kagain · 20/06/2023 12:40

Well done @dreaminginrainbows

Maybe we can all do the yoga together on here iykwim

I've done a bit of looking round @MaybeC25Kagain and MN seems to recommend Yoga with Kassandra more than Adriene - surprisingly for me, as I've only heard of Adriene! Kassandra has a 30 day beginners course, is that the sort of thing you were thinking of?

I quite often get pensioners looking concernedly at me whilst I'm running @dreaminginrainbows - or worse, jogging past me Grin

MaybeC25Kagain · 20/06/2023 14:05

Yes, that sort of thing.

I've just looked up Kassandra on YT and shes got a bit of that awful vocal fry thing going on so I don't think I can listen to that every morning.

They both have 30 videos in their programmes so I'm going to do adriene, we don't all have to do the same, if we all start on the same day though?

MaybeC25Kagain · 21/06/2023 13:13

I didn't do any yogo yesterday but I swam fo rabout half an hour.

I was going to go for my run this morning, but didn't, I'll go this evening when its cooler.

OP posts:
dreaminginrainbows · 21/06/2023 13:19

I didn’t do yoga either but I think I might start tonight.

its 22 degrees here so I think I’m going to wait till later to go on my run too otherwise I may melt 😂🥵

MaybeC25Kagain · 21/06/2023 15:40

Its 26 here, and C25K app just sent me a reminder that its run day 🙈

OP posts:
dreaminginrainbows · 21/06/2023 18:46

I’m seriously lacking in motivation this evening. Trying to psych myself up to get and do day 2 of c25k but it looks so warm out and I can smell everyone’s bbq’s 😂

MaybeC25Kagain · 21/06/2023 22:38

I didn't get out tonight, had a lot going on today, I'm going to go in the morning.
