I'm 44. Fat from DD4, Covid, wfh etc etc. used to be fit, ran a (v slow) marathon at 30, currently get out of breath climbing the stairs. I need to do it.

Tried to do it 3 years ago but gave up when my knees complained.

Run 1 today!

Still here! Repeating every W5 run. I think I did W5R1 x 4 and will do 3 x W5R2 (done 2 x already) but it's getting not easier, just more doable though I'm veeery slow. Approaching the dreaded W5R3 with a mix of apprehension and excitement.

MissAmyPond · 04/06/2023 23:39

I'm almost on W4 now @RomanMum - my running club schedule is a bit harder than the NHS C25K app, we've been away for a long weekend and I didn't get chance to finish W3R3! I've booked the DC into breakfast club this week though and will be back on it. Our W4 schedule includes an 8 minute run and I have no idea if I can run for that long Shock

Mid way through W4 here, v b slow and repeating weeks BUT still going!!

@FisherThem I did a revised version of W4 R1 today, 3 mins run plus 8 mins run, then repeat - my face was so red by the end that I could probably be seen from space Grin but at least I did it! Probably helped that I did it early in the morning before it got too hot...

RomanMum · 08/06/2023 19:34

Well done!

I did the dreaded 20min run yesterday and it was... ok. Struggled and in fact I walked for about 10 seconds at 15mjns in, then pulled my big girl pants up and got going again, but my goodness was I slow! Will defo repeat, perhaps when I can find a time when it's a bit cooler ☀️

FrazzledFirefly · 08/06/2023 23:12

I'm still here. I graduated on Sunday 28 May and flew on holiday on Monday 29 May. Have done no running since.

Am thinking of starting back up mid way ish to ease myself back in.

FrazzledFirefly · 08/06/2023 23:13

Graduated c25k I mean.

MissAmyPond · 10/06/2023 23:33

Well done on your graduation @FrazzledFirefly! My C25K app always starts off with the 'graduate applause' thing, feels like it's mocking me as I now struggle through week 4 Grin

Brilliant doing a 20 minute run in this heat @RomanMum ! I had to do my next 3/ 8/ 3/ 8 minute run today whilst the DC were at a sports club, as I couldn't find another time... it was 3pm and absolutely baking hot 😰I did do it (very, very slowly) but am hoping it cools down a bit soon!

FrazzledFirefly · 10/06/2023 23:41

Ah, thanks @MissAmyPond

I've still not done any running since I'm back...need to get back on it.

Well done for getting out in this heat. Think I'm going to join a gym to get me running through the summer heat. When I find my running enthusiasm again!

MissAmyPond · 10/06/2023 23:52

It's hard when you have a break @FrazzledFirefly - have to say it's been brilliant for me joining a local athletics club, it's given me the motivation to go out for a run when I'd rather be at home scoffing ice cream Blush

I spoke to my DTs this evening about whether they'd like to join a gym with me, they turn 8 in September which is the earliest it'd be worth it - at the moment they could only go to the creche, which wouldn't really work as they're gigantic 7 year olds who'd be in with the tiny tots! I'm hoping that if we can join around September time, I'd always have the option to take them to the gym/ swimming pool if we have some spare time. Might be useful in the winter months to keep us busy!

MissAmyPond · 12/06/2023 23:48

We had a short thunderstorm today @FrazzledFirefly which cleared the humidity a bit. It was much needed as I then went out for W4 R3 and still almost melted! Also I realised that I was wearing pink leggings and a yellow top, the combo made me look like a giant slow-moving bit of Battenburg cake Confused

FisherThem · 14/06/2023 10:39

Just did W5 R2 - woo hoo! Took a sneaky peak at R3...

20 min run. 20 min run?! From 8 mins max to 20 blooming mins??? WTAF?!

Twinklegolden · 14/06/2023 10:43

I completed W5R3 yesterday @FisherThem. I was so amazed that I was able to complete it! It definitely was a mind over matter situation. On week 1 I struggled running 60 seconds!

I slowed right down and just ‘coasted’ along for the 20 minutes. It was tough but I felt amazing once I completed it. You can do it!

RomanMum · 14/06/2023 21:36

Thanks @MissAmyPond

Just completed W5 R3 x3. The heat really hit and I walked for about 30 seconds 16 mins in but it was still an achievement. On to W6 which I will probably repeat some of, maybe not quite as much as W5! Let's hope the weather cools down a little.

@FisherThem just take it very slowly. I found my energy came in waves but managed to jog for the whole time once, but only by jogging probably slower than I could walk. Having a route helped too as by the second time I knew how far I had to go. Also listen to something distracting.

MissAmyPond · 15/06/2023 11:51

The heat is so draining @RomanMum! I did W5R1 earlier - mine is slightly different as it was run 5 mins/ walk 2 mins/ run 15 mins/ walk 3 mins/ run 5 mins/ collapse, I managed it by running veeeeery slowly and finishing early (the DC were at breakfast club, so I had finished my run by 8am). Frankly if we're still moving then it's an achievement!

Well done on your 20 minute run @Twinklegolden!! It does feel astonishing that we can run for that long after only being able to run 1 minute a few weeks ago (that's the case for me, anyway!). I'm really glad I started again, although it's sometimes tricky to fit in 3 runs per week.

Good luck for your 20 minute run @FisherThem and if it's any consolation, you can't possibly run any slower than me Grin I hope you're able to go out when it's reasonably cool, which does help!
