I'm 44. Fat from DD4, Covid, wfh etc etc. used to be fit, ran a (v slow) marathon at 30, currently get out of breath climbing the stairs. I need to do it.

Tried to do it 3 years ago but gave up when my knees complained.

Run 1 today!

Just showing my support here. I felt like this at Christmas. I finished couch 2 5k yesterday having never run for a single minute in my life. I really enjoyed following the app. Good luck with it.

Coffeaddict · 27/03/2023 13:51

I just downloaded the app. Have put on weight from my 2 pregnancies that I need to lose.

Also just booked my wedding for end of next year so need to get my fat arse in gear.

FisherThem · 27/03/2023 13:52

Thanks callingelfrescue - good to have real life success stories!

coffeeaddict - great motivation! When are you planning your first run?

Aiming to get out this evening once DP is home

When you planning your first one?

FisherThem · 27/03/2023 13:55

Just back!! It was v manageable, but goodness my calves tightened up afterwards! Made me feel old....

I actually downloaded the app last week and went for my first run this evening! Wasn’t as bad as expected. Be great to have some support to keep the motivation up.
Had DD 9 weeks ago and have 2 stone to shift… at 38, I’m not going to bounce back.
Planning on running Monday, Wednesday and Saturday each week. I figured if I have set days I am more likely to stick to it. I’m very much a put off until tomorrow kinda person when it comes to exercise.

MissAmyPond · 27/03/2023 23:24

I'm in OP, planning to do W1R2 on Wednesday morning as have got the DC places in breakfast club that day, although the school holidays are always tough in terms of finding any opportunity to shuffle along like an elderly tortoise run!

I actually completed C25K two years ago and could run the whole 5K at that point. Yippee!! Not any more, right back to square one...

FrazzledFirefly · 27/03/2023 23:29

Hey all, I'd love to join. My ds10 and I started on the weekend. Done w1, r1 and r2 so far.

I'm v unfit, overweight, 40s, peri menopausal and failed last time I attempted c25k.

Really, really want to succeed this time.

Coffeaddict · 28/03/2023 14:38

I did my first run yesterday evening and was struggling. I hadn't realised how much my fitness had tanked.

Hope this thread keeps us all motivated

NewMumNeedHelp · 29/03/2023 19:47

Second run didn’t go to plan. It was torrential rain, so I have pushed it back to tomorrow. Not a great start, but I would have been soaked in seconds. Did a ten min C section core workout I found on youtube instead.

LemonDrizzles · 29/03/2023 19:50

I plan to start next week. Just getting me emails down to a manageable state so I can go at lunch. I would love to listen to my own music but just know when to start stop walk run with an app.

FisherThem · 29/03/2023 20:08

Run two today, in the rain. Harder and a bit miserable, but worth it!

FisherThem · 29/03/2023 20:09

lemondrizzles - you can still listen to your music, I do! I have it running to begin and the NHS app fades in and out so I can hear what to do. I couldn't run in silence

I’m in. Did it a few years ago and lost a lot of tummy which I need to do again!

UnoQueenie · 30/03/2023 14:02

Can I join in? I almost completed c25k a few years ago but then winter came then lockdown etc. Trying again now. Started a few weeks in and did week 4 run 1 last weekend and run 2 today, might stick on this week for a few weeks!
I listen to my own music. Once you start the c25k run on the app, start your music too (I have a playlist on spotify) and the music fades down when your c25k narrator talks (I love Jo Whiley). I really like running to showtunes! They've got a good beat and they're quite long so the time seems to go faster.
Does anyone use an app to track distance /speed? Thinking of getting one but no idea where to start!

CuriousMama · 30/03/2023 19:09

I'm in. Bp was high at last GP appointment. I'd gone for something else. I've got it down to a reasonable amount already with exercise and eating less. But been thinking about running for a while now. I could do with losing weight too. I walk long distances but running isn't the same.

Went out with dh for a walk today and I did short runs then ran back. I got out of breath.

I've downloaded the app and will follow that now.

Good luck everyone.

CuriousMama · 30/03/2023 19:12

I've picked Sarah Millican. I'll be running along the coast so it's ok if I'm laughing whilst running,😂 Just her voice makes me laugh.

NewMumNeedHelp · 30/03/2023 19:38

Just completed W1 R2. Day later than planned, but at least it’s done. Found it harder than the first one, I am so out of shape!

@UnoQueenie I use map my run to track distance and speed etc.

Weevel · 30/03/2023 19:49

I’m a little further on but I hope you don’t mind me joining. Im
on week 6 my next run is run 3 and it’s 25 minutes none stop!!

I can’t believe with how hard I found the earlier weeks that tomorrow I might run for 25 minutes. Albeit the slowest that anyone has ever ran 😂but Denise Lewis tells me slow is ok just keep running.

Well done. I hope I can do that soon 🤞

FrazzledFirefly · 30/03/2023 19:59

I'm listening to Sarah Millican too, but I'm thinking of mixing it up a bit.

Did w1, r3 yesterday without my son (he was in school). He's got better fitness than me though so I think we can both try w2, r1 tomorrow.

Running to show tunes is a good tip. I like the sound of that. I'm running in silence at the moment and I don't think it helps. Though I do have my son chattering a bit to me..

MissAmyPond · 30/03/2023 23:19

@CuriousMama and @FrazzledFirefly I listened to Sarah last time round too, what a lovely cheery voice she has! I'm trying Sanjeev this time, he seems like a very nice chap too. Or as nice as anyone can be when they're telling me to run Grin

W1R2 done yesterday, R3 tomorrow morning. Need to do some careful planning for the Easter hols, the DC will be in holiday clubs a few days so I could go later in the day pre-collection. Although that would mean running at a busier time of day with the risk of more people seeing me Shock

You will succeed this time. I'm 54 and I'm determined so you can 👍

@MissAmyPond that's good you're enjoying Sarah. I'm from the north east but don't know anyone with her voice 🤣
