I'm 44. Fat from DD4, Covid, wfh etc etc. used to be fit, ran a (v slow) marathon at 30, currently get out of breath climbing the stairs. I need to do it.

Tried to do it 3 years ago but gave up when my knees complained.

Run 1 today!

You will succeed this time. I'm 54 and I'm determined so you can 👍

Aw, thanks CuriousMama 😊

Fingers crossed for us all

W1R3 done - pouring rain, yet again. I don't mind the getting cleaned up afterwards but am very wary of falling over after hurting my foot badly last year! Plodded around a slightly different route instead of my usual one down a muddy but scenic path, this one involves mainly running past people's bins Confused

That's a shame @CuriousMama, I could listen to Sarah for a long time (except when she's telling me to run, of course!!)

NewMumNeedHelp · 31/03/2023 10:05

Question for those further along/done this before. Is this achievable in the 9 weeks or do you find you need to repeat some weeks?

well done @MissAmyPond. This awful weather is not good for motivation.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 31/03/2023 10:49

I did C25K last year and completed it in ten weeks @NewMumNeedHelp - I think it was week five I repeated. I then developed plantar fasciitis and have had to spend hundreds of pounds on physio, so all of you please make sure you have good shoes!

MissAmyPond · 31/03/2023 15:36

Thank you @NewMumNeedHelp Smile

I did do it in the nine weeks a couple of years ago, but was lucky in that the weather was good, the DC were at school and I could sort out my runs around my working hours at the time - I think if I couldn't have committed to regular runs it would have taken me much longer.

Same here with the plantar fasciitis @Judystilldreamsofhorses - DM (who is notoriously flaky) kept promising me new trainers for Christmas, which was brilliant as I didn't/ don't have the money to buy the new ones I desperately needed. My present finally turned up in March but the damage was done, I couldn't even get the trainers on my knackered foot by then Confused I've learned my lesson now and just bought my own (used) ones via Vinted instead!

CuriousMama · 31/03/2023 17:23

I'm going to a running shop this week to get my gait checked and buy shoes accordingly. They have a good reputation. Ds1 lives in the city I'm going to so can meet him after work.

Baring injury I think I’ll complete it in 9 weeks. I’ve just completed week 6 and I’ve not repeated any runs yet. I don’t think I it’s a problem if you do though.

However, I will say that will not be a 5k that will just be 30 minutes running. I’m way off the pace of a 30 minute 5k. My running has slowed down and is barely faster than walking!

FrazzledFirefly · 31/03/2023 19:21

Week 2, run 1 completed in the pouring rain. My son point-blank refused to come with me. V proud of myself for getting out there. I'm determined to keep this up, I so want to be fitter.

I'm running so slowly I think my walking pace is quicker. Hopefully though I can increase my speed later.

If I get through the programme I definitely won't be anywhere near a 30 min 5k. But that's OK.

It was absolutely pouring down during my run too. Though I hate the heat so would prefer rain to sunshine :-)

I’ll join you all! I’m doing w1r3 tomo. Just been using the nhs app, what app are others using? Thanks

helpfulperson · 31/03/2023 19:51

Missed this thread when it started. I did wk3 r3 today. I'm 54 and 17 stone. I've done it a couple of times before but never achieved 5k. Normally about 3.5k. I do a fair bit of hillwalking and definitely think my running pace is slower than my walking pace.

I'm using the NHS one too

helpfulperson · 31/03/2023 20:40

I'm using laura on the nhs one because she was the only one available when i first did it 8 years ago and I'm scared to change😁

CuriousMama · 01/04/2023 14:05

Just started today. Lovely Sarah kept me motivated. Running along the cliffs watching the sea helped too 🌊🌊🌊

RomanMum · 01/04/2023 14:36

Yes please. I've just done W3R1 and it was tough. I may repeat weeks as things get harder.

NewMumNeedHelp · 01/04/2023 20:39

Just completed W1 R3 and it went much better than R2. Actually felt like I was running properly at times and not just shuffling along. Managed to squeeze an extra 300m into my distance vs R2 which I was very pleased about and really went for the last two runs.

W2 looks achievable, but the jump in running time in week 3 looks terrifying.

So far my dodgy ankle is behaving itself.

How are you getting measurements?

helpfulperson · 02/04/2023 18:29

I use strava. Just the free version.

UnoQueenie · 02/04/2023 19:40

I did week 4 run 3 today and after 5 mins running, I felt OK, so did 8! I can't believe it, that's the furthest I've ever managed!

MissAmyPond · 03/04/2023 15:59

W2R1 done here today, in the proper daylight with people around! I usually try to go mega early but couldn't do it this time. I wore my sunglasses so of course no one knew it was me Hmm

I tend to struggle during the runs, finish thinking I haven't really pushed myself, and then a couple of hours later feel like I'm going to collapse from having overdone it...

NewMumNeedHelp · 03/04/2023 19:53

Just got back from W2 R1. Found that difficult, not the actual run and times, more my body just wasn’t functioning today. I shuffled around like a little old lady with no real pace. Think my hormones are still out of whack as everything aches.

Nearly didn’t run tonight, but DH came home with a chocolate filled Cronut from some artisanal bakery near where he was working today. I wasn’t going to turn that down, it was amazing. Not so good for the diet, but it guilted me into running!

Coffeaddict · 03/04/2023 20:47

A stomach bug ripped through my family last week so have already fallen off the wagon.

Getting back on it tomorrow.

Karma2023 · 03/04/2023 21:03

Enjoying reading your post. I tried it last year got to week 7 but then had a chest infection which floored me.

Inspired by you all I will start again!

MissAmyPond · 03/04/2023 23:40

@NewMumNeedHelp I can very much identify with the little old lady shuffling! And I definitely wouldn't have been able to turn down a cronut Grin

@Karma2023 no wonder a chest infection stopped you in your tracks, I remember a couple of them have hit me hard. Hopefully you'll be able to get back into it soon!

FrazzledFirefly · 04/04/2023 22:16

Just completed w2, r3. This run seemed harder than r2 but may just have been because it was later in the day and I'm tired.

Pleased I got out there.

I'm also v v slow.
