I’ve done this before but due to getting covid and an injury, I’m having another go to get back into running. Just done my first run (I thought week 4 might be roughly the right place to start) and remembered why I both love and hate running!

Anyone else interested in some motivational chat? I’m guessing lots might start in Jan but I’m trying to get ahead of the game!

Well done on your run @FreeFrenchHens.
Did you get out for yours @PurpleDaisies?

Really hope your boob band is as a big a revelation as mine was @Lostinafield. How are you feeling today?

I’m planning on doing my second run of the week this evening and I’m actually looking forward to it at the moment!

PurpleDaisies · 12/01/2022 11:19

I didn’t go yesterday after a friend invited me for a spur of the moment swim, walk and coffee. That was really lovely and a good decision.

I’ve been out this morning and done w5r2. It was great! Normally it takes me at least ten minutes to get comfortable but this morning three minutes in and I felt like I was actually enjoying it. It probably helped that it was freezing but bright and misty over the fields. Feeling energised for the rest of the day now.

I’ve never heard of a boob band. I’ll definitely look those up.

Good luck today’s runners and happy rest day to everyone else!

good luck this evening @SantaHat!

@PurpleDaisies I think one of the most helpful things from these threads for me has been knowing that that the first few mins are the hardest. Only 3 mins of pain is very good going!

PurpleDaisies · 12/01/2022 13:19

I think one of the most helpful things from these threads for me has been knowing that that the first few mins are the hardest.

That was an absolute game changer for me. I’ve swum for years and always hated the first ten lengths then enjoyed the rest, but I’d never made the link that running might be the same.

Todays run was quite nice with where the hills fell. I think the next one is a full twenty minutes which is a big step, psychologically more than anything. I’m going to think very carefully about where to go to avoid any massive hills.

I've just completed w2r3.

It was a lovely fresh afternoon for it.
I'm not looking forward to the step up for week 3!

SantaHat · 12/01/2022 19:55

Wow @PurpleDaisies both your swim, coffee etc and your run sound great.

I’ve just done my second run of week 1 and again I’m surprised at how much I actually enjoyed it but my legs were very tired at the end but I had a lovely hot bubble bath when I got in which really hit the spot.

And to both @PurpleDaisies and @Hereforthedramaz, you got the next step. I have faith in you ;)

WeAllLikeVindaloo · 12/01/2022 20:53

Well done everyone!
I completed w2r2 this evening, was actually quite nice. I kept putting it off but I felt so much better after doing it. Running really does boost my mental health so I must keep focus on that.

SantaHat · 13/01/2022 18:22

How are we all doing today?

Must be honest I’ve been reading the awful news about Ashling Murphy today and I’m having to give myself a bit of a talking to so that it doesn’t put me off my running. By bad coincidence I had a little bit of a weird moment on my run yesterday evening and came home to talk to my DH about how angry it makes me that as a woman, I have to be aware all the time and what happened to me probably wouldn’t have even given a man a moment of thought, let alone a moment of fear.

Lostinafield · 14/01/2022 05:34

Lovely to read how well everyone is doing.
Atm I'm doing longer dog walks, my plantar fasciitis still plays up towards the end so not good enough to run yet.
@santahat I'm sorry something happened on your run. Re the tragic murder, I avoid reading about terrible things because they just upset me and don't benefit the person the thing happened to. But I can see how it would make you wobbly Flowers

SantaHat · 15/01/2022 13:44

Longer dog walks are always good @Lostinafield! Sorry to hear about the plantar fasciitis though.

I had an extra day off from running as I was just too physically (and emotionally) tired yesterday but did my third run of the week this morning. It was super misty but that added to the atmosphere of my zombie 5k app 🤣

Lostinafield · 16/01/2022 21:39

Thanks santahat. I got some new orthotic insoles a couple of days ago and my feet are already feeling a lot better.
Lol at the misty zombie chase. Did you enjoy your run?
Walking the dog today I jogged a few tentative yards a couple of times. Not even two minutes' worth but a little test to see how my body reacted Smile

Hereforthedramaz · 17/01/2022 18:54

Evening everyone,

I started week 4 today, felt like a good step up from week 3 and it feels like real progress.

Lovely tired feeling this evening now.

Anyone else been out today?

alwayswrighty · 17/01/2022 19:09

Hi all, can I join? I've a sprained ankle at the moment so am on rest but I'm booked in for a 10 miler race in October that I'm nowhere near ready for! I know it's not the same as the 5km but could do with some support

Florence1960 · 17/01/2022 20:43

Hello! I'm a total beginner but I trot on a small trampoline and can run up and down the hall and kitchen. I'm almost ready to try Week 2. If I can do this, will I be able to do it outside, do you think? May be a silly question, but I feel it must be harder to run properly outside.
Would be very grateful for any advice you can offer, please.

WeAllLikeVindaloo · 17/01/2022 20:52

@Florence1960
Give it go! It’s lovely in the fresh air. Just take it steady with a light jog.

Agreed, for me the crisp fresh air plus things to look at help take my mind of the running part and make it easier.

Give it a go!

A "runner" friend gave me a tip recently, aim to do the first half of the run slower than the second. That way you don't run out of steam etc.

I've taken it rather literally and on my run today I think walking would have been quicker!

Florence1960 · 17/01/2022 21:29

Thank you! I’m definitely feel that pacing myself would be an issue. I don’t feel ready yet but I will aim to do it. No promises though!! I’m a bit worried that I will hurt myself - I’m not young! 🙈

Lostinafield · 18/01/2022 08:43

Well done @Hereforthedramaz
When I did c25k before I swear I was the slowest runner in the world. Felt amazing though.
Welcome Florence and Always. Florence I'm not young either

SantaHat · 18/01/2022 13:18

Hey lovely people! And welcome to @Florence1960 and @alwayswrighty! The more the merrier :)

I had my first run of the week (starting week 2 of my zombie c25k) this morning. It was very frosty and a bit icy under foot but I did it! Quite relieved it didn’t feel such a huge step up as I was worried it might be. Although I am having that ridiculous impatience with myself that I’ve been running, doing yoga every other day and eating a bit more sensibly for a week now. Why haven’t I already lost 5 stone and feel a million bucks?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

SantaHat · 18/01/2022 13:21

Oh and @Lostinafield I’m glad the insoles are making a difference. I really rate fit flops for wearing around the house - massively helped my husband the last time Plantar f kicked in. We picked up a cheap pair on eBay.

Florence1960 · 18/01/2022 14:32

Thank you for your kind welcomes. Up and down the kitchen today 😀. I managed mostly 1 min run, 1 min walk. It went quite quickly. I did download the Zombie thing a while ago but deleted it. I might try it again.

alwayswrighty · 18/01/2022 16:45

Thanks for letting me join. Still on the injury bench for another 2 weeks at least and then I'm hoping to get back out. Only 9 months until a 10 miler that I'm nowhere near ready for yet.

WeAllLikeVindaloo · 19/01/2022 21:04

@alwayswrighty
Just take your time, we believe in you!

Also @SantaHat I was wondering exactly the same, step on the scales and I’m like oh, right, okay. 🤣🤣🤣

BrinksmansEntry · 20/01/2022 14:40

I ran again! I've missed being out for the last week and half but today did W5R1 again with added distance as I had to collect my car. Felt ridiculously happy and cheery after and it took longer than it should have to recognise that was the endorphins Grin

Lostinafield · 20/01/2022 17:54

Well done Florence and Brinksman! Florence you must have a HUGE kitchen!
Alwayswrighty hang in there. I'm sure 9 months will give you enough time to prepare and I bet the others are giving you vicarious endorphins and inspiration!
